FYI Amy, city water is not usually good and you will probably need to filter it. From my experience, city water is very chlorinated and often smells like bleach. Even if you don’t get a refrigerator with a water dispenser, you may want to think about getting a berkey type filter. My town has pretty chlorinated water and I even had to put a filter on the shower head because it was destroying my sensitive skin. If I could afford it, I would put a whole house filter in. Just my two cents.

I watched a video from a repair guy/used appliance store owner and his recommendation is to keep your refrigerator as basic as possible. The more features it has the greater the potential for failure and the greater cost of repairs. I also recommend a filtration system that is set up under your sink.

Good question. I feel that when appliances come with lots of gadgets, they break down more quickly. Since you have the ice maker, I would probably look for more space in the refrigerator.

I did the ice cube tray thing.over the years I must have gone through half a dozen trays. twisting the trays to get the ice out after a while they crack. I got myself a ice machine and I LOVE IT . the trays take up space. and if you use a lot of ice you are limited by your trays. as long as you put water in the machine you have endless ice.

Hi Amy and family! Just wanted to say, I won't drink tap water anymore. I live in Cincinnati. Ever since that East Palestine, OH happened I buy bottled water. There's so much water contamination that's happened since then around the country that I don't feel tap water is what it used to be. Not able to get a whole house filter right now so I just buy it. People say it's the same as tap water so who knows. Dinner looked great! So glad you guys are almost done with that huge project! I just love little Maddie! Your sweet kids are growing up fast! You're making wonderful memories that they'll take with them always!! Thanks for sharing! God bless!!

We bought a frig only and we love it. We have 2 freezers and use the upright one most leftovers and make ahead. That works for us but may not for everyone! Getting ready for a new adventure is alot of work, be sure to take care of you!! Love your channel!

I have never had a ice maker/ water dispenser in my fridge. We had to replace our fridge 7 year ago and choose to go without the ice maker/ water dispenser so we could get the max space inside. We found the French style door fridge with freezer on bottom. It gave us the most space when looking. I LOVE my fridge and would buy one just like it if we ever needed to. I have a couple friends with the exaxt fridge and they both agree with this also. (It could make ice in the freezer but we did not set it up for it so we could have more freezer space in the freezer.) And with your counter ice maker with the kind of ice you like, you would not need a built in ice maker. We got out fridge at Lowe's.

My family isn't as big as yours but I usually feed 8+ people. I bought a double door fridge with the freezer drawer. The drawer fits more than you'd think but we still had to get an extra freezer. But the fridge space is WORTH IT! 😊

When I had to buy a new fridge in 2021, I wanted French doors and freezer drawer. I have a very smart dog so I did not want an ice & water dispenser on the front or anything fancy. I found exactly that at an appliance warehouse. Mine was brand new but the reason it was there is has one small dent at the bottom which was no big deal to me. I don't have the counter space for an ice maker AND the fridge filters the water.

I've had an ice maker in my freezer forever and I love it. I don't have or use filter because the water is great. Looking at the comments I see some states or cities has bad water. Hopefully you will have good water too

I’m be never had an ice machine or ice maker in the door. But what you think will work best for YOUR family, given the dimensions of your new home. Ice is great in hot weather, but you have options on how to come by it. Have a great rest of your day.

Amy, we have the exact same refrigerator as you just sold. It is funny, because I watch you and the Moss family and she has our washing machine and you had our fridge ( We had them long before I discovered you two, my favorites!) I ,personally, would get a large fridge and keep the tabletop ice maker, but if the water is bad you will have to filter it. Ours is soft and good. We live in a small town in Arkansas and I love it here! The Ozarks are nice too. Some of my ancestors came here from NC and I have relatives there I have never met. Our Walmart FINALLY got the blueberry cobbler creamer, YAY!!! Shout out to Maddie :) It"s been fun trying to guess where your'e going, lol! So exciting! We recently got a new fridge I opted for the one that makes the nugget ice but doesn’t dispense it just makes it into a bucket in the freezer , I had the countertop ice maker but it just took up way too much room and the ice didn’t freeze hard enough for the heat and humidity we have here. I didn’t want a fridge with all the bells and whistles because that’s just more stuff that can mess up and cost money to fix down the road. I like more simple stuff!! Oh and those have a built in filter to filter the water (we have city water) Happy Belated Birthday Greg!!!

If I had to do over myself I would skip the water/ice feature because it takes up so much valuable space and the ice always has some problem, you can always get a filter for your city water placed under your sink if needed and you have an ice machine already

Whole house water filter if possible or R. O. at sink for drinking. My fridge ice maker quit right after warranty went out. I'll do external for good unless they improve. More storage then. Jamerill just did commercial ones and you can get different sizes of them. Big decisions, especially since they are all pretty much a lot poorer quality nowadays

If I haft to do over again, I would have a refrigerator that dispensed water but not ice. My city water is somewhat unstable taste wise. I really dislike have ice in the freezer compartment, it takes up so much space.

I do not have an icemaker in my refrigerator and I did not want one. It is just something to break or leak. I don’t do appliances with all the fancy doodads on them because that’s the stuff that breaks I get the plain Jane appliances,

I live in a city that the water taste like the bottom of the lake 1/3 or more of the year. I still filter the water living in the city. I have a refrigerator that has ice/water in the door and the ice collection/mechanisms are part of the door and not taking up freezer shelf space. Look into some of those. Mine was $1,278 in the height of the pandemic.

City water is not always good. But you could get one of the filtered pitchers or a filter for the sink faucet. I would prefer not to have the ice maker and more space in mine. I have one with ice and water and one without. I love the extra space

A lot of the refrigerators with ice machines have an option of whether you want to do cubed or crushed ice. So if you get one of those you like the smaller iced you could just do crushed ice and then you wouldn't have to have thighs machine

Inwas going to suggest spaghetti lol..we also love chicken spaghetti. I not cooking tonight bc of church. I making sweet and sour meatloaf tomorrow for my daughter inlaw her request. We just bought a new fridge and LG we had a Samsung bottom chest freezer and i hated it.. couldn't find anything. When i transferred everything over to my side by side doors i had more room!! I couldn't believe it. I like my ice maker and my grands love the craft ice thats a plus. But we have a fridge also on the back deck that we have for storage when we need it. I use my ice maker when we go camping.

If you get an ice machine in your new fridge, maybe see how your water is in the town your moving too. What I mean is when we first moved in, had an ice machine in our ..2 yrs later it stopped working and had no clue the issue. Well we had a lot of lime and just junk, so it was a mess for a bit. We ended up getting a no salt water conditioning system..it was also a descalier. It’s by FREIJE we haven’t had a problem since. Anyway, the tubing in the refrigerators are small and they get gunked up. :(

Don’t ask me about refrigerators bc every one I’ve had w an ice machine it breaks. They also take up a lot of internal space. We got a new samsung a few years ago w the drawer freezer in the bottom and no ice machine. Works great and I’m not wasting space. You guys must be exhausted but I’m sure the driveway is coming along and looks fantastic. Keep up the good work! I have been having problems with my refrigerator ice maker. We are a family of five and it runs out of ice frequently. It acts up all the time, it has not had any ice in the last week. It cost over 3 thousand dollars and I can't get ice so have been buying bags of ice.
