I am going camping at lake superior for a week with my wife, baby and dog. I realized my solo gear doesnt apply at all and ended up buying everything you can think of. I spent almost 10k and thats not including having to get a hitch installed on my land rover. Even with all the best gear I could think of it is still cheaper than a normal trip and now we are set up for years. I should make a video of our campsite because I have not seen anyone on youtube with a loadout like this for car camping. Im pretty excited to use it and buying it all with that budget was really fun. I rented a uhaul trailer to bring the gear because the dog gets the entire trunk for the 12 hour drive we have.

Helpful tip with your toilet paper, keep in plastic bag so it stays dry and it helps to rip a bunch of decent size pre torn sheets so its easier to grab and dont get messy, i actually do this for tracking blood trails in deer season but also good for whatever

@WoodyBrown5 жыл бұрын
Canna710 just a silly explanation why I even have a sham towel - probably would have been more effective and actually hilarious if it was an empty box and that was the only thing in it 🤣 Obviously that’s not the only thing I learned from scouts - but if you have kids, then you know - sometimes you might have to clean up all kinds of bodily fluids and you’ll need something with much better absorption than a paper towel without sacrificing too much room that a tradition towel would take up. Hence: sham. Thanks for watching!!

Awesome video man thank you. Taking a trip this weekend and keep coming back to this to make sure I have what we will need. What should I get, an air mattress or pads for me and wife? Thanks
@WoodyBrown4 жыл бұрын
Andres Colin awe man thank you so much!! I vote pads - they aren’t necessarily any “less comfortable” than an air mattress would be (and I would argue the pads are more comfortable) and they are far less cumbersome to carry around. I have some self inflating pads that are really comfy and roll up nice and tight when you’re done. The cost of the pads all depends on whether or not you want to take them backpacking (where you’d want them to be very light in weight) or “car camping” like we do as a family where you can sacrifice a little “weight” for price. I hope that helps!! Feel free to ask me more questions. I promise I will be adding more camping gear/camping videos in the next few weeks!!
@andrescolintv4 жыл бұрын
Woody Brown thanks! I’ll go for the pads then. Are there any you recommend? Also, do you use a big sleeping bag for you and your wife or each their individual? Thanks man!
@WoodyBrown4 жыл бұрын
Andres Colin I found some inexpensive sleeping pads at academy and REI. I use separate sleeping bags for myself and my wife - manly b/c I get hot really easily and she gets cold really easily so this way we can regulate our own individual temperatures. Also, I do more camping on my own (or with one of the kids) than I do with her - so the double person sleeping bag wouldn’t get as much use for us. The cool thing about gear is that over time your needs change and so your gear will evolve. If you end up with gear that you don’t like as much keep it but get something else for the next season; always keep gear around and take good care of it, you never know when a family member or friend might want to join you for a campout and they may not have much gear :) Another pro tip: when you get home from your campout (if it’s a sunny dry day) lay out your tent, tarps and let it air out for a few hours - trust me - there’s nothing worse than getting to camp, opening your tent only to discover it smells like mold + mildew!!!
@andrescolintv4 жыл бұрын
Woody Brown great advice man! I finally ordered a few self inflating pads as you suggested. I’m now searching for chairs. This is an expensive hobby lol 😝
@WoodyBrown4 жыл бұрын
@@andrescolintv I'm glad I could help!! hahaha - yes, camping gear get's $$$$ - don't worry about getting it all at once. Btw you can find pretty inexpensive camp chairs at big box places like Walmart.

It's a perfect tent for "car camping" but not ideal for backpacking or having to hike in very far - it's a pretty heavy tent in the bag. I wanted something big enough that we could all fit comfortably AND fit all our gear in there as well. HOPE THIS HELPS!

I live in east Atlanta and we are about to go to north Georgia on a family camping trip. Do you have any recommendations on good spots? Thanks!
@WoodyBrown5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your question :) There are a ton of great spots. I would recommend starting with the State Parks - they typically have well taken care of drive up (or short walk from parking lot) campsites. Depending on your experience level and/or your family's interest, that's where I would start. Rather than having to hike in to a more primitive campsite off of the Appalachian trail for example. It's also REALLY inexpensive - typically around $10-$20 to reserve the campsite + a $5 park visitor fee. Also - depending on experience, etc - many of them have shower facilities and nearby bathroom facilities as well. www.georgiastateparks.org is a great place to start looking and then make a decision based on what facilities/amenities they have to offer. Let me know if you have any more questions and look forward to hearing about your adventures!! - WB

Montana White hahaha yes, camping with family is definitely a new challenge in and of itself! Comfort for them is key, otherwise they’re not going to want to come back. I hope my tips helped indeed and also, as a fellow Jeeper...when all else fails sleeping in the Jeep or bugging out and going home is definitely always an option!! Best of luck this weekend and prayers and best wishes for your wife and your family!

Most of this I feel like is useful family or not, I click on this video because I saw a family and thought you’d go into detail about maybe what you packed specifically for the kids, clothing and stuff. Maybe have your wife do an unboxing lol I’m sure there’s her whole list you left out. I’m here for that.

Where is the camping site in this video? Looks somewhat private which would be nice. We live in north Georgia.

Wow. This totally motivated me to take my boys camping they are 4 and 6. I want to spend more time with them and would love to do this. Any tips on where to start? I had 90% of the items in ur bags and tote as I’m somewhat of a prepper, haha.

Yes!! Awesome to hear. Depending on where you’re located it’s starting to get pretty chilly to take the kids out - unless of course you have sleeping bags that are rated for really low temps. Keeping those little dudes warm and snug is super important. I’d definitely recommend taking them maybe once it’s starts getting closer to spring where the nightly lows are in the 50s. That’s prime camping weather!

Awe, your wife may come around with a few additions to your gear. You met her halfway between sleeping on a pile of leaves in the rain and normal people camping. You actually need to meet her halfway between your home and Eagle Scout camping. I don't mean to suggest that glamping is required...But looking at your spotless house, I could see she wouldn't be a fan of bugs and smelly gear. So, ask her to find a cute tablecloth, bring a queen sized air mattress (yes, it will be bulky). Comfy pillows and blankets and a set of battery operated fairy lights that you can string inside the tent. Maybe find a site that has electricity (just for a few times), this will probably be closer to people, which might make her feel more safe from animals. Ask her to mix up some of her essential oils to spritz in the tent (Cedarwood?). Once she can see past all the sucky things, she might find a love for the outdoors and slowly give up her luxury items. Personally, my husband won't camp with me because I won't let him bring the Playstation, lol.

S S great ideas for sure!! I think she’s coming around to it a bit - however would prefer our bed at home to any other even in paradise. So, I’m fighting a difficult battle - that said, I’m happy with participation :) Thank you for watching and your suggestions - adding those will help for sure.

I have paracord in my kit and use it for all kinds of things. Next camping trip, doing the JiffyPop. I’m teaching my son how to start a fire using a steel. My daughter likes to cook so we do a lot of campfire cooking with cast iron. I believe if you start camping with young kids, you have great memories and something they might do with their kids.
@WoodyBrown3 жыл бұрын
YES!! 100% agree - if they're used to it as a family tradition they'll pass on the love for the outdoors to their children for sure.

What kind of tent is that?? :)
@WoodyBrown5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jordan - first off thank you for watching!! Here's the tent that I got...truthfully it's gigantic in comparison to my 2-man tent that I use for the father & son campouts. This has plenty of room and MORE for my whole family. I got it from REI (www.rei.com/rei-garage/product/142118/kelty-camp-cabin-4-tent) they have a 6-person version of the tent too. Great value in my opinion. It's pretty heavy if you're going to be using for "backpacking" however for "car camping" - where you won't have to walk too far it's perfect!
