When the owner of two canines became homeless, she felt there was no other choice but to hand them to a shelter. It was clear from the very start at Richmond Animal Care and Control that the 12-year-old dachshund OJ and six-year-old pit bull Blue Dozer were the best of friends. In fact, the owner wanted to be sure the staff realized this upon her surrendering them. RACC Director Christie Chipps said the woman told the staff they were living in her car, and she was going through something very personal. She wanted to make sure the pair had a home together, Chipps said.

First I have to say to the shelter staff thank you for the work you do. What a pair and are a matched set that what would describe Blu and OJ. While the adoption didn’t work out at least they are together again right now. As for the irresponsible and devious adoptive family...... karma has a way of coming around. If you say you will be responsible and bring the animals into you family just do it or walk away so that a true family can adopt this pair. Nice video and thank you for sharing their story.

Wow, how could someone do this is beyond comprehension. Such evil in this world. I agree there needs to be some kind of punishment & light shed on what this family did. Print their names in the local news. Put them on a Not Allowed to Adopt Registery. Their neighbors & community should know what kind of people they are. It says a family adopted Blue & OJay... Could you imagine what this teaches a child? Hoping these people do not have children. Otherwise, Social Services should keep an eye on these people. So sad their loving mom became homeless. Praying she got back on her feet & could take them back. Some rescues/local animal control will not let you adopt if you surrender an animal, but in this case an exception should be made. I'd like to know this has a happier ending. Update?

So tragic. For the woman who became homeless (means she had no one she could count on...possibly psychological issues too...said she was "going through stuff"...but knew she couldn't take care of the 2 anymore). To have one dog almost blind but luckily has a mate that is willing and able to be it's eyes. Some being it can count on. Then to be adopted by an irresponsible owner. Glad it worked out and they are reunited. Dog's life is short. Need to make sure it's days count. I wonder what this shelter will do though...if they don't get a forever home together. Being that one is almost blind...and they are Bully's...chances are less. As most won't want a dog breed with a bad rep. Cute dogs get adopted first. And those with no health issues. I mean usually people adopt because they can't afford to pay the full price of a dog from a reputable breeder. So there's that. Still shelter dogs deserve a good life. As some one commented. What that dog went through being abandoned unable to see. The fear of not knowing where to go or where it was. Not knowing when it would be fed or get some love. People should be made to pay hefty fines for animal cruelty. $2000 or jail time. Dogs can't pick their owners.
