You guys ARE a good example for the younger generation. You have the very values so needed in this world and you are wise beyond your years. I am 65 and it took a while for me to start following my heart and not just do what society (and family) expected. I earned a very good salary as a computer programmer. One day I made a batch of soap from scratch and was immediately hooked. I remember walking into work showing everyone my soap and my manager saying "Why on earth would you want to make soap when you can just buy it from P&P? I ended up having a successful handmade bath & body product company for 25 years whilst raising two boys as a single mother. My mom also tried to "sabotage" me when I decided to leave corporate for my business. I now want to move to a small town and build a straw bale house and people are thinking I am crazy once again. I am envious that you figured out that one has to do what you want to in spite of everyone's expectations around you at your young age. PS: I really enjoy your channel. I find every episode informative and entertaining. I hope your channel becomes massive.

That is actually very true. When I mention farmstead to my family the response is always negative, we're slaves to convenience to the point where we can't do anything for ourselves to survive anymore. Keep pushing guys, I wish you all the best.

So true 😂. It’s convenience and consumption. Why don’t you want more? A higher position, CEO is not enough, why not get super duper CEO? Why not a quadruple storey house? Why not a bigger car etc. Whenever someone says they are happy to have less and be free it is seen as a lack of ambition, or as if one is crazy. Thanks for all the well wishes. All of us on a path to greater sustainability need it 😊.

For me is not a family, but a partner who thinks I’m crazy to live the double storey in a suburb to start over in some plot around Polokwane. Both our parents are getting older and we need to be closed to them and the expense of living in GP is increasing daily. When I started watching your channel it was out disappointment and I wanted to assure myself that I’m I really being real. The. I met you guys trust me in every advise I give people I always refer you to your channel. I don’t know how your vision was aligned as couples. It’s very rate❤😢 I love you all

Thank you so much for sharing this. I think we underestimate how things are changing so quickly, and people around us are kinder blind to the fact that things are getting so hard, and the only thing we can do is getaway quickly and find freedom elsewhere. What's the use of staying in a surbub with no electricity and water that is contaminated? So maybe with your partner, you can sit them down and ask them how they imagine their life in their 50s or 60s. What does that look like? Also, sell this in way that makes this lifestyle beneficial to them. Not you, not the parents. Just them. and let them imagine. HEHE. I hope you both find a middle ground. If they do not want to go back home in Limpopo, find land elsewhere that will make your partner happy. Or find land close to a city where they can continue going to work or still have the city's luxuries. Also, you can build a mansion on a homestead. Or one day in the near future ya'll can visit us and experience homestead in real life.

City life is not life at all. I had a similar experience when I started homeschooling my children. Now everyone can see what kind of children they have become and with the state of our education system, they tell me it's the best decision I could have made. Your place is starting to take shape and is looking beautiful. One day the critics will want to move in with you😂
@millennialhomesteader

Audry definitely believes that homeschooling is the only way we would have to go in our country. The state of schools is appalling, the education, the discipline. All lacking. Unless you take your children to the extremely expensive schools (even then you can’t guarantee they will shape out the way you want) you really are rolling the dice. We are glad to be in a place where we can control more of our life. Thanks so much ☺️, it’s a slow process but one day we will get there.

Thanks, and also so true. 😀 every vision starts off sounding crazy. It only makes sense once it starts coming into fruition or taking shape. What we value as important changes over time and many people will realise that family, freedom and happiness are the true wealth statuses.

Our family also doesn't understand why we would ever want to homestead: I've realized that for them the goal is comfort: you need to earn enough so that you can pay people to work for you so that you don't need to do anything. So the whole concept of working hard to be more self sufficient is completely foreign to them. But we gain so much satisfaction from working hard to grow our food that I don't think we'll ever go back to our old lifestyle again. 😊

That’s so true. What is also motivating is that people like you have and are going through this and are still happy with this was of life and mentality. It gives us confidence that we really are doing the right thing. We find it so rewarding to do things ourselves and to be able to learn so much. We have never felt happier than working on a big project and getting to see it come to fruition. Knowing that WE did that. It really makes it worthwhile.

So many truths in one video. I think a lot of parents feel one should stay in the city. I'm blessed with a mom that can't wait for me to leave the city and start my self-sustainable journey. I think you are doing a wonderful thing. Cash cars, paying off your homestead and starting to live off the ground. WOW!!!

Absolutely. Being debt free is really our dream. Without debts you can be free to work where you want and also how you want. Not to mention being able to absorb the economic challenges. It’s such a blessing to have a mother that sees your vision and supports it. All the best to both of you 😊.

Its disheartening that our relationship with land is only political and never personal as South Africans. Your property is stunning and this lifestyle has just as much merit(if not more) as the "big city" or "suburban" life we are told to chase in our 30s.
@millennialhomesteader
@millennialhomesteader 8 ай бұрын
Absolutely. We have spoken exactly about this. We wish young people had an opportunity to have the responsibility to take care of land even for a short time period. It makes you realise how tough the jobs of farmers, market gardeners etc is. It requires an investment in time and resources. If we saw land beyond politics but an opportunity to learn to be better custodians and to be more sustainable it would change our country. Thanks so much for watching, we believe long term this will be worth it.

Thank you for sharing. How is security in homesteading?
@millennialhomesteader
@millennialhomesteader 8 ай бұрын
That’s a difficult one to answer. In SA crime is really a challenge throughout. It can depend on where you are and other details about your location. Isolated places are naturally going to get targeted so if you move into a homestead you may want to consider neighbours etc. You have to assume a big responsibility on your own security so that is a necessity. We have not had any incidents in our location.

It's not poverty if you are able to feed yourself. Also, isn't the borrower the slave to the lender? Who wants all that stress? When my chickens lay their eggs I liken it to labor pains with all that noise they make.
@millennialhomesteader
@millennialhomesteader 8 ай бұрын
Absolutely. The freedom to chose to live your life is the real success. Being able to grow your own food, knowing how to clean your own water, make your own electricity and have your own livestock is really the ultimate symbol of wealth for us. It’s such a shame that many people see city living as the real metric of success. 😂 yes, the chickens just all start making noise when they lay, it’s also amazing that the sound they make before they lay and after are all so different. It’s so amazing to see.

40 years ago I was able to eat organic food. Butcher chickens . Grind corn learnt from my grandmother. Now most in the carribean are eating imported foods and driving massive expensive fuel driving cars complaining about the cost of living.
