The first thing I've noticed when I recently started watching the Dawson era of Family Feud is Richard's appearance. He's dressed very nice, his suits look properly tailored and somehow he looks more dapper than most hosts nowadays. Even the sunglasses look as if they're meant to be there. But what stands out the most to me is the way he carries himself. I get a similar vibe from him to one that emanated from the old times kings of cool & confidence, like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. His sense of humor and quick wit make a nice addition to the mix.

In 2001 on a fan club like website called The Richard Dawson Experience, women wrote sexy and regular fanfiction about him. It ended in 2001 and no one is keeping it up, but fans can still read the stories and look at the pictures. It was a great website.

@@BedfordFalls7 Recently I started going through Match Game episodes from 73 & 74 and they keep confirming my opinion of him. He would easily fit right into the Rat Pack, without having to adjust or imitate the guys. He was so quick and witty with his comebacks, while keeping the cool appearance. They said he even appeared on The Dean Martin Show and on one of The Dean Martin Roasts - I'm most curious about it and have to search for these sometime.

That prize board malfunctioned on multiple occasions. Buzzr has been showing one episode where the "reveal bell" is muffled and sounds like it's in another studio and all you hear is the THUNK as the solenoid releases the answer board. And then there were other times when the light board part just broke and began rendering gibberish. I've never seen a schematic on how that board worked but it clearly had a lot of moving parts. I am sure that is one reason they went to a digital board for later versions. Now, it's not even real at all; just a chyron.

I remember reading actor Willie Aames' account of how, during his EIE years, he got made fun of by one of his teachers for wearing sunglasses to class. Growing up watching this show as a kid, I never knew Richard Dawson was English. His accent sounded southern US to me. I guess that's because he was from Hampshire, England...the same region where the US "southern accent" originates.

That set always had problems even from the beginning, original 1976 buzzers kept breaking down, which led to them being replaced, even then, it sometimes fails when a contestant buzzes in, one of the face-off podium lights doesn't flash when going to or coming out of break or during the intro, and the total for $5 a point in Fast Money not shown. Yeah, I think this all would have been input on some computer which didn't have a backspace key, and any corrections that needed to be made (like when they realised that 'lotion' wouldn't fit) would have been done by using the cursor keys to go back and typing over the originally input characters.
