First off I would to say that I became a fan of Judge Mathis because of his claims of tough love and for the most part he delivers on that... However I feel that he didn't stick to the facts in this case and let his personal feelings cloud his judgement...There was no empathy shown to the granddaughter by the grandmother... The granddaughter was dealing with four life altering chain of events all at the same time...The birth of a child, two major surgeries and the death of a parent all while having to support herself and a newborn baby... While recovering from her health issues where is the money coming from?On top of all of that she loses her mom and is left to come up with the burial expenses by herself...I was also upset with the fact that the grandmother who was fully aware of her granddaughter's situation, received money to pay for the entire funeral and felt that since she helped take care of the deceased that she was entitled to all the money 🤔...as my late great grandmother would often say "that beats all I have ever seen"...smh the grandmother should be ashamed of herself and she should have been forced to pay the money back because she failed to use the money for what it was intended for...

The plaintiff couldn't be there because of her health problems, but where were her siblings? Why aren't any of them suing? You all dont know what the co-worker told the Grandma when she gave her the money. This case aint about the Grandma's greed, but it may be about the plaintiff's greed. It’s not like the plaintiff said it was a balance left on the funeral that she had to come out her own pocket to cover. No, it was $4200 that she thought she should have.

JM took the Solomon route by splitting the money down the middle. Very judicious. It’s obvious that the coworkers gave the money to the family to help with funeral expenses. They gave it to grandma because that’s who they knew directly. However, grandma’s conclusion was totally wrong, believing the money was all hers. Finally, since she did contribute her own money to cover the cost of the funeral, it makes sense to split the money between both to help everyone recover the cost of burying mom. The Solomonic approach.👍🏾
