Perfect representation of BBC World Service. I lived in the Cayman Islands for 13 years and every evening at 10:00 pm I'd listen. Now when there's a question about the Hutu or Tutsi tribes or about East Timor separatists I know the answer!🤣😂🤣

Never expected to find someone who lived in Cayman for 13 years and used that to relate to the BBC World Service. I am a proud Caymanian today.
@sushicourier Жыл бұрын
@mixanblend Yes! I lived there from 1987 until 2000. Back then, it was nearly impossible to get Cayman Status, and I had always wanted to work and live in California, so I moved. I'm a chef. I worked at the Hyatt (now closed) when it first opened, then the Radisson when IT first opened (now Marriott Beach Resort). I worked at a coiole of private restaurants on Seven Mile Beach road and was a partner in a coffee shop/bakery. I don't know how long you go back, but when I first moved to Cayman in '87, there were NO traffic lights (only stop signs) and we just used the last 5 digits of our phone numbers. There were only 23,000 total. If you wanted TV, you had to live where they had a giant 20-foot satellite dish. But I loved it. Everyone knew everyone's business, but they also looked out for you. I broke my leg at one point, and my local friends brought me plates of food and cleaned my apartment! I was even part of the kitchen staff at Government House when Queen Elizabeth and Philip came in 1994. It was a wonderful time to live there. I've been back to visit my longtime friends, but it's SO built up! I HATE the tall hotels and buildings, all the new roads cutting into the island, and the dozens of canals they cut into North Sound just to build more million dollar houses. I get why they did it, but it's sad that they had to.

@anonUK3 жыл бұрын
@@tedf1471 That's what comes of having everyone in Northern and Western Europe turning up to your shores (and Ireland's) and building towns there. Valentia refers to an area of Western Ireland where Spanish survivors of the Armada landed in Catholic territory and later settled. I don't know why so many of the sea areas are called "Automatic"- if it's in reference to the lighthouses, they are all automatic now. It's like having a big "in Colour" sign on your TV station- they gave that up by 1980 when all the TV stations were in colour.
