Honestly, I know what you mean, Salt water taffy is to me a very nostalgic candy. Honestly, it really depends on where you get it. The best is what you get straight from a state or county fair. Unfortunately, the fair industry has kinda become lame. You used to get all sorts of weird startups and fair activities that didn't cost extra money. One of the center pieces was the taffy makers who used the old way of doing the work by stretching it and hooking it. You even got these candy artisans who can make a Christmas tree at the center of the taffy.

Its made with a salt and water mixture but no seawater is used, salt water taffy has a different flavor and consistency than other taffy types and usually has a wider variety of flavors. Its pretty good and it's always great when you get it when it's been just freshly pulled

It's just a name, traditional taffy is saltwater, but otherwise it's just referring to the kind of candy in the case of other flavors.

No, there's no salt water in salt water taffy. The name comes from a NJ candy stand that flooded one night and the owner sarcastically said "well I guess it's salt water taffey now" and the name stuck. People thought it was a gimmick because he was selling it on the beach.

basically yes. They have more salt than regular taffy, it's really quite good. I would recommend it to anyone that prefers salt in most foods they eat. Technically it 'holds' for longer so gas stations like to have a bunch of 'expired' salt water taffy in some places like new mexico.
