Yes… what verse did the guy who let himself be arrested, scourged, and crucified for no reason other than to save the souls of others say about the importance of my possessions vs. someone else’s life? I mean, someone once tried to argue with me that Matthew 19:21 about selling all your possessions to follow him rendered home defense moot because you would have no home, and similarly Acts 4:32-37 where early Christians did just that also rendered it moot, and then there’s Matthew 5:38-42 with that worn out “turn the other cheek” and “do not resist the one who would do evil unto you”. But then Jesus clearly didn’t have access to a Glock or an AR, or a large screen or two kids to protect, so I’m sure he would be fine with “stand your ground”. Especially if they were crackheads… 😂

Either way, Medieval church, not as bad as modern history books make it out to be, and the modern church - far worse.

I’m not a believer but my father was, and he was kind to everyone, and gave the clothes and toys we didn’t use anymore to the poor. He was conservative in a lot of ways, but he always believed that those who have should give to those who don’t. He never said anything like “Well the rich work hard, they deserve their money.” He hated what happened to America under Reagan, he never could accept the 80s idea of “greed is good.” He was rich by the end of his life but he still gave. I used to monitor hate radio in the 90s, a bunch of guys who later became Fox hosts: Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc. My boss wouldn't let me listen to Rush because his voice and words made her skin crawl. But she let me listen to the other station which had all those not-yet stars. I would call in on their shows because I could do my job with a phone on my shoulder, and my boss liked hearing me rip them new ones. Michael Medved's show stopped airing in my region because I was making him look like such a fool. Most of the others adopted new "one call per week per caller" policies while I was doing this. I like to hope that I was part of the reason why. I'm not telling you this to brag, I'm doing it to tell you that *one person* can make a difference. Try it. Call in and debate them. Encourage your friends to do the same. Imagine if so many people did this that radio listeners stopped believing their lies. Those radio shows are all so one-sided it would be hard for some to not eventually buy into the propaganda. So fight them on their own front line. Maybe we could actually put an end to hate radio in that way?

A late very good friend of mine was Catholic as far as church membership and also was a frequent world traveler. He most often did so without joining tour groups or using travel agents. He really knew his way around a lot of distant and remote, as well as some non remote locations in the 150 countries he visited in his life. Christianity as an institution was never friendly to the idea of commoners reading the Bible’s for almost its entire existence it was dictated and interpreted to the congregation in based on Latin only the clergy could kinda half sorts understand. I just read an article today about a man arrested who was once deported and snuck back over who had a 15 year old girl as his sex slave that he brought with him......I read about these cases weekly. I don't think he was advocating for people to go to whatever country they wanted to without regard to that countries laws and to live off the hard work and taxes of the common citizens and steal their hard earned retirement and insurance. I attended a college in the Bible belt for a few semesters. Most of the students were prepping for seminary school & made it abundantly clear that they weren't there to learn anything, but rather to ensure the minority of "heathen non-believers" were learning right (read THEIR way.) It was hysterical how many of them flipped out over not receiving automatic A's in everything ESPECIALLY in theology classes. I got harassed & threatened numerous times for earning good grades, presenting counter arguments & interrupting crazy ass Jesus rants of the willfully ignorant. Seems many Christians feel persecuted when others know the Bible better than they do. Go figure. Turns out that if you want to claim expertise on the Bible, you might want to actually READ THE BIBLE. I guess not all the professors were privy to gramma's biased, incomplete, half assed interpretation of scripture. Some even got banned from charity events for harassing homeless people coming in for warmth, toiletries & a hot meal. I literally witnessed donated items & food ripped from poor people's hands (once a kid's wrapped Christmas present!) by self-righteous arse holes, angrily screaming things like "Jesus loves you & if you don't swear you love him back then you don't deserve handouts, you bum!" Really psycho zealots tryna be gatekeepers. Many the ones who were more mild would take names & try to report the people who "came for the freebies & ignored the sermon." Professors who organized such events had the attitude that we were there to demonstrate love, charity & gratitude rather than shove a Bible up someone's arse.

The video made me laugh, but it's a bittersweet laughter. Too much of it is an accurate reflection of what has been happening in America for a long time.
