I actually like Vinny. Not because I think he was a particularly interesting character but because he helped Stewie steal the time machine from past Stewie knowing that Stewie would use the time machine to go back in time and save Brian which means the Griffins would have never adopted Vinny. This is kind of heavy when you realize that 75% of the dogs in those places are eventually euthanized because they aren't able to find them new homes. So Vinny is giving himself a 75% chance of DYING long before he really should just to make Stewie happy. I'd like it if Seth MacFarlane confirmed to the audience in one way or another that Vinny was eventually adopted by another loving family, but that's just me.

I still have no idea why they didn't keep Vinny. The entire point of the character was that he wasn't very likable, and that was showcased perfectly when Stewie yelled at him for not being Brian. Vinny had to earn our respect and earn the right for us to like him. It would have been a great new direction for the show to go, you know with themes of mortality and acceptance of changes. Instead Seth panders to fanboys and keeps Brian, instead of just not killing him off in the first place.

That sounds like a terrible direction for Family Guy, a show that is primarily about entertainment, to go in. 'Hey! Let's alienate our viewers by killing off a popular, entertaining character, and replace him with a deliberately annoying one! Then we'll write some increasingly didactic story lines focusing on this new character, and beat our viewers over the head with trite themes about 'morality' and 'acceptance of changes' until they grudgingly come to accept him!'

I don't know about anyone else, but I said that I was more than satisfied that Vinny replaced Brian the day the latter was seemingly killed off. I mean Brian just became an asshole throughout the later episodes prior to Life of Brian and when his death scene was executed, I was like "Whatever" and saw potential in Vinny instead. Too bad that didn't last long and Brian became an even bigger asshole after he was brought back. I was never a fan of this show, but the earlier episodes at least had clever humor and profound morals. The later episodes became repugnant to a point where it could give fucking Drawn Together a run for its money.

I wish I could have liked Vinny but I just didn't feel the character. All the Italian jokes/stereotypes would have gotten old pretty quickly and while Bran is probably the biggest douche in an animated sitcom, he was not boring and provided some sort of reaction from viewers (mostly negative lol). He used to be a very likeable character when he was the voice of reason (along with Lois whose character devolved as well) and yes, he is a jerk but he's not boring and I think this is why he's still popular today despite not being liked. It's like a 50/50 thing for some of us. I'm not afraid of change but I knew Vinny would never workout because he had big shoes to fill. Honestly, when they first announced that a character was going to be killed off in the family, I was hoping it'd be Chris because frankly, I don't find him funny and he doesn't stand out all that much. Back on Brian, he seemed to have gotten worse after his revival (lying about herpes, ripping people off with real estate, etc.) but there's no denying that some fans just want to see what he'll do next.

I'm glad they brought back Brian Family Guy wouldn't be the same without him because if he stayed dead we wouldn't get more Brian and Stewie Road To Adventure Episodes and I would love to see the Griffins adopt Vinny and still have Brian and I would love to see Brian Stewie and Vinny have their own Road To Adventures with Vinny included and they be a trio now. Brian and Vinny would be great friends and he would defend Brian from Quagmire too.
