I went to UofA and took a jazz appreciation class one semester. Every week we had to do either one or two live jazz reviews. This was not as difficult as it sounded because there was always some kind of live jazz show going on there. I think I remember being told by our professor that the city at that time had the nation’s largest jazz society, beating out even New Orleans. I pretty much hated being a student there, but when I stepped away from campus life, parts of Tucson felt pretty cultured. Some incredible restaurants, a pretty good music scene, and a few bookstores that I loved. Beautiful town too. Of course, there were other parts that felt like the land time had forgotten. The Simpsons also used to poke fun at the town (Matt Groening graduated from UofA). Again, couldn’t stand being a student there, but I’ve never really understood why the town itself has been the butt of so many jokes.

@@shanequinn7409 Kinda, anodyne means, in this context, harmless or soothing. The word originally was a term for a pain killer, and pain killing drugs more generally, in the 19th Century, and its meaning as an adjective reflects that. Imagine if somebody described a person or thing by comparing them to paracetamol.
