I think this scene is absolutely brilliant. It uses humour to shine a light on domestic violence: a terrible issue. Domestic violence is not remotely funny but that doesn't mean that humour can't be used to call attention to it. The ad does that by describing the class as "realistic", meaning that this situation happens in real life, and is not a fantasy. Also, just because the scene is a joke, and includes domestic violence as its subject matter, does not mean that it is claiming that domestic violence is funny. Although the scene is about domestic violence, a real issue, the scene is still fictitious.

Just a reminder that women CHOOSE men like this. I know - I grew up with an abusive father, as did my best friend. And the girl I loved most in life left me for an abusive man with red flags out the wazoo.
@VelkanAngels3 жыл бұрын
@Tree Jesus - That's not what he said, though. He said that if women who enter a relationship with a guy they KNOW TO BE ABUSIVE beforehand, they themselves are responsible for putting themselves in a dangerous situation willingly. That's how decisions work. You don't get to take credit if it goes well and say "it had nothing to do with me" if it goes wrong... PS: My mother also went for aggressive men, yet kept seeming surprised when they treated us like shit. Like what do you expect? Who should I hold accountable for HER choosing to move us in with them? No one forced her, including said men, but sure, she totally had none of the blame for it -_- I hate that people act like blame is 100% or 0% and nothing in-between...

yup, they are the true idiots and losers in the equation... they actually have all the power to choose with plenty of options, and when they do choose and see its not a good fit they can easily walk away or divorce which is extremely easy to do now, there's no reason to stick with someone like that unless they themselves are mentally and/or emotionally damaged

I’ve always been blown away by people getting pissed at their SO for making mistakes. Not big mistakes but little bullshit things like messing up a meal or forgetting to turn the car light off. It’s just a mistake, they didn’t mean it.
@zazi53053 жыл бұрын
Usually it stems from something that's eating at them. It starts seeping out in the form of exaggerated responses to otherwise small things. Sometimes a really bad day is enough, or just enough small mistakes until they add up. Obviously this is no excuse, but understanding the problem is always a good start.
@marcusbelanger34893 жыл бұрын
@@zazi5305 yeah I get that. Shit builds up. That’s why communication is so important. Addressing things as they pop up is generally the way to go
@VelkanAngels3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, exactly what Zazi said. In addition though, my first boyfriend when I was 17 flipped his absolute shit at me one night. Why? Cause I'd cooked food for him while he was working overtime and cleaned the place up for when he got home. Apparently that was insulting, cause it apparently was me suggesting he can't do those things himself (lol wat). Of course that was just bull. The real reason as I found out that same evening, was that he hadn't been working overtime. He'd been with another girl, so when he came home to me having done something nice for him, it made him feel really guilty and somewhat panicked, which was then directed at me for having been the one to trigger the guilt. There tends to be more behind people's reactions to things in general than just the specific thing they're reacting to. We weren't born the minute before each thing we experience, after all. :/

@realHarsh103 жыл бұрын
The part where she ask the children to not try to stop the father from beating her is 100% true because then he'll accuse her of inciting children against him and beat her more. The best thing I know is to hide, usually under the bed and hope for it to end sooner. Cowardly, right? Anyway, it's one of the most accurate portrayal of domestic violence I've ever seen.

@@BReynoldsLilPiff Well that's because South Park episodes (at least those I remember, I haven't watched the show in ages) oftentimes ended with some sort of deliberate message, which is something Family Guy rarely goes for.
