South Park actually has allot in common with Family Guy. Both shows basically go wherever they want to go and just don't care. Both shows sometimes seem to go to far but most of the time are just amazingly funny and relevant.

There are some really crazy old cartoons for sure. I mean freakazoid, pinky and the brain, and animaniacs were all done by the same writer and had some really funny jokes that mixed in adult culture from the time. They also kept it pretty silly like in looney tunes. Then theres more child friendly content like tiny toons, hey arnold, dexters labratory, edd ed and eddy, courage the cowardly dog, k.n.d., scooby doo, lilo and stitch, timone and pumba, pokemon, teen titans, jimmy neutron, fairly odd parents, grim adventures of billy and mandy, danny phantom, jake long the american dragon, and many more. You can kind of see how many cartoon shows have evolved over time too. These days the humor isnt exactly the same in my opinion. Probably due to too many people getting easily offended.
