That's sort of moussaka isn't it, the lovely Greek dish!? Moussaka is sort of like lasagna but with long eggplant slices in place of pasta sheets, very nice! 😊

Doing these sorts of challenges can really help others see how they can eat on a budget, so thanks for this. It’s nice that shops are now doing wonky veg / food boxes what the food is still good but it’s cheeper because it doesn’t fit the manufacturing guidelines, you guys got quite a bit in those boxes. #freegang #livebutnotlive #freedomfamily 💚💚

Aubergines ideas dip, Roast them with zucchinis, capsicums red onions, pumpkin add herbs & spices for toasted sandwiches.,Googled & found on site Nadia's healthy kitchen vegan aubergine chickpea bake they do lots of vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy- free recipes , also its used a lot in middle eastern meals

Thanks for using olio, it helps reduce the stigma for free food. You can also sign up to be a food collector and you can keep 10% for yourself. You could have made some, oat, banana and maybe ginger bars?

Ideas for the Aubergines/Eggplants: You can roast them in the oven and make baba ganoush or slice them for eggplant parmigiana. They're also great roasted and put on a veggie sandwich with roasted peppers and a nice crusty bread.

Wow, that was amazing!! Didn't know we were going to get spoilt with a fine dining cooking show mixed in with a budget shop, wonderful, thank you, so good! :) Also, eggplant goes so nicely in a ratatouille. :) It's amazing how much well priced food you have access to, and all the free apps as well! I'm live but not live from Adelaide, South Australia and what you just got from your 5 pounds would probably cost anywhere from $40-$50 here, given that we don't have any way to get any of that free!! I'm so glad people in the UK have access to things like that though, terrific set up, especially with those Lidl boxes too, and Katie was right that you could have fed yourselves for another day from what was left, that would have made a great follow up video! :) Such a treat to see you cooking your meals for the day too, really appreciated the extra effort made there. It's so great to see what you buy but when you get to see it on another level and see the meals cooked and served up it gives everything much more definition, so thank you so much for all your efforts, amazing!

With the aubergine, tomatoes and onions you can make a middle eastern dish called tapsi. You oven cook the aubergine in slices and they give off a smokey flavour. It's incredible, serve it with the rice and a Salad and you have a really good meal!!

Hi Gang, Katie I see you did a fine job with the stuffed Aubergine (eggplant) . the recipe I shared was cubed Aub-egg with tomatoes onions peppers garlic and any other veg on an oiled sheet pan with spices and herbs of choice roasted. I check from time to time and remove things as they finish. if one of you likes chili peppers put one on whole and if you don't break it it won't affect the rest. Jim Mexico

Maybe do a challenge of trying to live for free for a weekend and only buying what you absolutely have to in order to make up the meals as it were. Quite often with Olio you get enough bread for a few days; then if you got a veg box you could make veg soup 🍜 Be interested to see Living for a weekend with Olio and not have a budget per day but literally buying the bare essentials if needed at all to make up the meals! Whatever you guys do it will be great. That evening meal Katie looked fit for a vegan fine dining restaurant ❤❤❤

Here in Belgium they have unfortunately stopped making 1 euro boxes with fruit and vegetables that need to be used up quickly with the start of corona. What we got in return was "zero waste", vegetables, fruit and other fresh products that you can buy for 0.20 or 0.50 euro cents, but you can take a maximum of 5 with you.

Tip for making your own home made chips: if you soak them for a little while in a bowl of water (then dry them off) before you cook them it will leach out some of the starch so they will go a bit crispier.

You should do a money vid were all three of you have a £1 and see what you can get for £1 but you can ask strangers what they would give you for £1 or you can buy jives and sell them at the park them see how much money you get them you try make a meal out of the £1 but the money at the end can be more if you raise it

I've thought of a different spin on this video. Making a meal for each other and buying the most expensive version of each item on your shopping list. For example if your shopping list said pasta then the most expensive fancy pasta you can find.

Food is much cheaper in the uk than here in Australia. Even with your pound being $2aud your £5 would be $10 and we wouldn’t get anything near your lidl shop
