Yes, common! It's a short version of 'babica' and 'dedek', pretty much.

There are so many words that differ from what I remember from when I used to talk to my grandmother as a child in the 1980s. She lived outside Nova Gorica.

Interesting. In German (at least in Austria) Mama is informal (formal would be "Mutter") and Mami is mostly used by small children. If a grown up would call his mother "Mami" people would probably make fun of him :)

😆 Here mami is the most common. If I called my mom 'mama', she would probably be offended - this is how I call my grandma. 😄

Sandra, are you still in the U.K. or back in Slovenia? Which parts of Slovenia do you prefer? Is Carniola still a word used to describe areas of the country? I still believe the most beautiful women in the world are Slovenian....as you are.

No, we don't really use the word Carniola here and every region has something else going for it! My favourite is Gorenjska (the mountain region). It has the most beautiful nature!

@@SandraPotisek ...the Oberkrain (German word) region of Slovenia is where the famous Slovenian Polka Madels come from. Awesome group. I love Slovene polka, very traditional.
