Family removed from court after outburst when Avreaunte Bennett sentencedto 20 years in prison

Moments after Clark County Superior Court Judge Suzan Clark announced Avreaunte Emmanuel Bennett’s sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, Stephanie Celeste Jones, members of Bennett’s family jumped up and started screaming profanity at the judge in outrage at the sentence. Clark County corrections deputies escorted them out, and they could be heard yelling in the hall outside of the courtroom while the judge finished reading Bennett his appeal rights. One member of Bennett’s family shouted a promise to appeal.

Only 20 years for shooting & killing his girlfriend? The Court errored.

The legislature sets a sentencing range for offenses and the judges have to follow those. She chose the highest end of the range.
