My friend had surgery at a hospital in South Orange County and they left a surgery tool inside and sewed her up. She woke up screaming in pain and they had to obviously do a second surgery and charged her for the second surgery! 😡 She sued them

So glad she survived and hopefully she won the lawsuit. I had a stroke this year and a lot went wrong that was the fault of the medical team. They covered it up too. I don’t even know what to do to file a lawsuit. My mind hasn’t been working properly since everything happened. The medicine they gave was all over my chart as an allergy and my family even told them I was allergic and they gave it anyway. It nearly killed me the first time and I nearly died this time.

@@julievanderleestI had a similar event happen. Before taking action, I got a copy of their notes. It was stated I had told them and it was in my record I'm allergic to that med. Also and it shocked me to read "name of nurse stated she knew, but still did it. She had told another nurse. They both decided to see if patient makes it through the night. I'm a lifelong nurse & nurse practitioner .. I've never heard of such a thing happening. Caps like that come on vials that you draw up medication from.. If it flew off while working on her ankle why didn't somebody see where it went? Drawing up meds next to the patient and letting the cat fly off and not realizing it?? Also it's crazy that nobody ever did an x-ray of her chest and upper airway with her complaining so much about having trouble breathing. This is crazy, malpractice.

@deborahmulkey1627 As a long time RN in critical care, this cap would have been quickly seen on intubation. ( She was on a ventilator.). The cap must have somehow “lodged” there AFTER intubation. Would not have shown up on Xray but could have with CT. Surely an ENT had been consulted, especially since she was on ventilator long enough to warrant a trach. Doesn’t make sense.

Fyi, several staff won't even listen to patients that are nurses and have a nurse for patient advocate. 4 days on bedrest with with blood clot symptoms they blamed on a herniated disk...no preventative, not the shots and not the leg squeezies. They kept me doped up on pain meds until day 3 , then after discharge as my steroid dose decreased I could feel the symptoms still there, my primary ordered labs, ultrasound and sent me to a different hospital. By then I had blood clots not just in one leg, but mostly occluding both lungs. Every time I spoke to new dr I repeated the same thing. "Pain management told me to come here to rule out blood clot or infection in my leg" it was obviously swollen, ghost white and ice cold, if someone bothered to check pulses in my foot, they would have a hard time and just tell me they would tell the next Dr or the next nurse, even drs, "I'll have the nurse..." what a cluster! 🤬🤬🤬

I've been a RN 33 years now. Can't say it enough times: avoid doctors and hospitals as much as possible. If you have to go, get out as soon as you can. They push medicines that are harmful and surgeries that are unnecessary. Not all. But many. Sometimes drugs are necessary FOR A SHORT TIME, and sometimes surgery is necessary, but always ask for a second, third or fourth opinion. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Always always always have a family member or a close friend at your bedside to advocate for you, with you.

I had scoliosis surgery 22 years ago and because I have drug and latex allergies, my surgeon requested someone to be with me at all times. My mom was with me 24/7 for 2 weeks. One week at the hospital I had my surgery in, and another week at a different hospital where they have the best physical therapy specifically for scoliosis surgery patients. They all did a fantastic job! I loved my nurses! God bless them! The nurses worked so hard to keep me comfortable so, I spoiled them and ordered pizza for them one night! I thought they were going to cry! They were so appreciative, yet I’m the one who was truly blessed by them and their kindness and compassion!

I am a retired RN and there are so many mistakes made in hospitals that are covered up. I’ve been a patient in the hospital and I’ve lost count the many times the incorrect medication was almost given to me. I always ask what a medication is before taking it as they always look different than the prescriptions I have at home. Also, how in God’s name did a bottle cap end up in that poor woman’s throat? I never heard of anything so horrible or suspicious. She broke her ankle, she was obviously awake and alert. That cap had to have been forced down her throat. I hope her death…or more appropriately her murder…is investigated fully.

It doesn't make any sense how a cap from a medication vial got into her mouth and then her airway. The only thing that I can think of is that she was sedated in order to set her ankle and, while sedated, someone popped the cap off the vial which then landed in her oral airway. Whatever happened, it's extremely sad and heartbreaking. Her poor family has to feel so traumatized. I hope they win a seven figure settlement.

Of course he couldn’t be as “explicit” as he’d like to be because he performs surgeries there I got the message loud and clear: GET THE F OUT ASAP! He even wrote in sharpie pen on my bandage DO NOT REMOVE!! And signed it…. He clearly was concerned about them either not bandaging me properly or risking infection. Luckily for me I had no issues.

@@sveronih5376 it IS a little confusing. The description of the video says it was from a vial opened in the Operating Room. In the interview the daughter says someone told her it was from the ER in the trauma center. If she was alert/awake one would think she would realize that something suddenly flew into her mouth. As that apparently didn't happen, I'm thinking she was probably sedated at the time. When I shattered my wrist, I was given pretty strong pain meds before the tried to set it. Though I was definitely conscious. If you're sedated enough to be unconscious you must be hooked up to equipment and someone monitors your vital signs the entire time. In the OR you're usually awake before they put the mask over your face and then you're "out" and the breathing tube is inserted. So...sounds like the information is conflicting and unclear right now. They'll have to wait for the trial to hear the testimony of people involved in her care.

I feel for her family members. None of this should've ever happened. Gross negligence caused by sloppy, careless medical staff. These poor folks have been through such a trauma. Something similar happened with my mom. And I have described her using the exact same words. She was love personified. ❤️ I pray for your healing and for you to find comfort in your beautiful memories.

This is an example of the state of our medical care system across the nation! Foreign nurses & doctors are hired who are unqualified, lack of accountability for staff & huge coverups of medical malfeasance. This is unacceptable! However, unless the corporation who owns the hospital gets severe consequences, nothing will change

Unfortunately, hospital induced death is quite common. Some more than others. Where I live, there are three large hospitals. One of them has accidentally killed so many patients that the town has running jokes about it. Ironically, all of the Medicaid patients go the this particular hospital.

I've had many misdiagnosis. I suffered with TMJ for five months bf someone identified what I had. I suffered with mono for two months bf that was diagnosed. Those were just the major things. The so called healthcare community doesn't care these days at all. They just want to do tests & run procedures so they can get insurance money. Healthcare is a big money industry & they don't care. I also believe there is a cure for cancer but it's more lucrative to treat than cure & we all know that big pharma & food industry is working side by side to ensure we stay addicted to foods. Healthcare is an oxymoron.

I had my tubes tied when I was 30. When they were ready to do the minimally invasive surgery I was groggy from meds and wondered if they would take out my dentures after I was out. They did not. They didn't look at my chart and because very few people have full dentures at that age it never dawned on them to look. When I went out completely my bottom plate slipped into my throat, making it difficult to breathe, so they kept giving me more anesthesia. When I woke up I sat up and grabbed my throat, yelling "My throat!!!" because it was sore. It took me 3 days to be able to get out of bed on my own. I was so weak and apparently nearly died. The few times I have had to be put out after that I made sure to tell them I had dentures. I hate having to do their job!

During my hospitalization for COVID, I had also pneumonia. I came to realize that medical care has deteriorated a lot. Besides, the Rehabilitations Centers are even worst. Now with COVID, I experienced medical care in a hospital 54 years later. I was shocked. The hospital care and Rehabilitation care were both horrible. Besides doctor’s care was mediocre too. No wonder so many people died. The way I feel now, is that the worst place to be is in a hospital if you are sick. You go in with a health problem and if they help you and send you home, you come home with a contagious disease that can kill you. One night in my Rehabilitation Center, for the night shift, we had only One Head Nurse for 40 Patients. The were no Practical Nurse, no Nurses assistant, no doctor and not even Security help. It is true. Our medical care is now a for PROFIT only business!

I had a tumor on my thyroid,it was not cancerous but was too large to leave there. After surgery there was a bleeder, my neck filled with blood and collapsed my airway. I was rushed back to surgery and woke up with a tracheotomy. The next day I was sent home only to return 48 hrs later by ambulance because I couldn’t breathe. Turns out the hospital sent me home without the correct equipment or instructions to care for myself. They had used a new type of trachea tube that no one had ever seen. I spent an additional 6 days in the hospital and went home with pneumonia. I told the hospital either you comp my entire bill or I’ll sue you. They comped very quickly because I would have won way more than just the initial cost!

I'm so sorry for the family and for the lady who died. My mother had surgery to repair an aneurysm and died from complications. My father wouldn't let them do an autopsy, so we will never know if it was caused by a mistake by one of the surgical team, or if it was something else. It is so hard to loose a mother. No matter what the circumstances. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope God guides you to a place of peace with this. Suing the hospital may get you a large settlement. But no amount of money can take the place of someone you loved.

How could hospital personnel possibly allow a medicine bottle cap to end up in a patient’s airway? This incident raises serious concerns about the negligence displayed by hospital staff. There must be accountability when such critical errors occur, and it’s evident that existing hospital policies need a thorough reevaluation and change. One of the most effective ways to ensure that these necessary updates are implemented is by filing a lawsuit, which could result in significant financial repercussions for the hospital. Such action not only highlights the severity of the situation but also serves as a catalyst for improving patient safety measures.
