Yeah.. such a bastard this man. Horrible. But this scene and episode was done also to bring to this issue which happens nowadays as well! And its important to show, and create a justice in such a sensitive topic. Family Ties is the most unique show, which could handle showing such conflicted situations, sensitive issues and not overdo nor invalidate the seriousness of an issue. Despite all the disturbing feelings, it was important to show the issue and support the victim. No one has to be ever ashamed of what has be done TO you. Only the one who caused this has to be ashamed and punished!

It happened with Michael all the time on this series. Almost every fucking time Alex is sad, scared or distressed Michael would say a line, the audience would laugh because they're uncomfortable with how dark the tone has gotten and then Michael takes a beat, a breath or makes a very gentle physical gesture to very clearly tell the audience "stop. I'm talking now and you're listening, not sucking up to me. Not now." And the audience listens. And it's just radio silence after that moment until he's done with the scene. It's the definition of hypnosis.

@weasley2o13 Жыл бұрын
God, my heart stopped right there I was not ready for that. They could've made it somewhat debatable to make it family friendly but that's proper assault, and Justine's pitch perfect performance only makes the whole situation scarier, the way it actually is in real life. It's an incredibly brave choice by the writers and director. Another genius move is the fact that she came to Alex first. Her mom seemed like the natural choice in this case but she felt safer and more open with her brother, and something about the fact that a BOY is the one having to deal with it rather than the obvious point of view of a woman just makes it much more moving, and their relationship much more complex than the shallow sibling banter / rivalry we see so often on sitcoms. Truly extraordinary. All of it.

this is why my parents hardly allowed me to go to sleepovers or parties alone because even there there can be some creepy adults, and even with so called adult supervision, anything can happen. And they used to really make sure that very very trusted people would be around me at home. so, i was pretty protected from this kind of thing thank goodness. unfortunately, this happened to poor mallory twice. once down at the tv station where her dad worked and, and once in the family room in her own home when both times no one was around. The keatons should've reported Arthur immediately to authorities.

Rewatch it and refresh your memory. Alex doesn't want to believe it's true at first because it hurts him to think that something like that happened to his little sister. He's actually very distressed when she tells him but he very quickly comes around and listens to her and later on does the right thing and tells their mom. He was a teenager then, it's scary to think of someone you love in that situation. If your sister was sexually assaulted you would've had a hard time processing it as well. He's just being protective, not dismissive. On the contrary, he was very sweet to her in that episode.

I agree with you but objectively speaking, with the knowledge kids have today about sex at such a young age via the internet, it wouldn't take much for one of them to make something up just to get back at an adult that pissed them off. The moral of the story is never put yourself in a position where something like that could happen. Never be alone with a kid without another adult being with you at all times. It's sad that it has come down to that but there's too much at stake with what these kids know today.

You should KNOW that I've been in security for 7 years now and the Percentage of guys that are just like Arthur is probably 95% roaming the streets that you might wanna know this. I've experienced this first hand!! Meaning I've had to throw people out of the bar for this very reason. 95%!!!!!!!! It's a mixture of Caucasians , African Americans , Hispanics, and middle easterns... .They all play a part in this role. It's not just one BREED. And The ones who ARE extremely guilty are the ones who have a tendency to dress more formal so you would NOT EXPECT them!!!!!! THAT'S where it becomes DANGEROUS......😐 I just wanted to bring awareness to the girls on here so you are aware. WATCH OUT! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE.

The look on Mallory's face when she didn't take his hand at that time was "Stay away from me."

I guess Elyse’s family was a total train wreck. I mean, her brother Tom Hanks was an allki, and now this guy. Like, how does this idea come up in the writers room?!?! Wow....

Harvey Weinstein was the head writer then. 😋

This guy wasn't family, though. Just a weird family friend they called "uncle" for some reason.

@@75aces97 We had a so-called aunt who was only a friend of the family. I always said to her, no bloodline, NO Aunt title! Move on fraud.

@@JeepTJWheelin 😆 I guess this is a thing some families do, but I can't relate. Growing up, we had some family friends, but between blood and marriage I had as many as 35 true uncles and aunts at a given time (not counting divorcees, deceased), so I didn't need another one. 😁

this is just wrong the fact that mallorys uncle kisses her this way, and i like the fact that the producers were brave enought to tacke this delicate issue.
@averythecoolcat6 жыл бұрын
He's not really her uncle. He was a family friend that they just called their uncle.

Is that what this episode is called? (Give your uncle a kiss)?

Sad what happened to the cute younger brother on the show. He became kind of a mess.

If you mean Brian Bonsall, I'm told he's doing fine these days, he got a band together and pretty much rebuilt his life.

In the show he wasn't a real Uncle, just an honorary one. A friend of the family.
