Family upset after Rastafarian teen trimmed allegedly at police station

Nzinga King, the 19-year-old Rastafarian who alleges her dreadlocks were trimmed while in custody at the Four Paths Police Station in Clarendon, on July 22, told The Gleaner that when she enquired of the woman corporal why her hair was being cut, she was told that it was for safety as she could use her hair to hang herself. Nzinga said the incident has reopened emotional wounds she has been battling to overcome.

For anyone unaware, the amount of the fine that had to be paid before she was released in the equivalent of US Dollars is $38.76 . That is the cost of freedom in Jamaica. But her locks lost in the lockdown will take a long time to grow back, and the scars from the trauma of it on the inside will take even longer, I would easily imagine. Change needs to happen. Oppression cannot continue, even when it's supposedly hidden and swept under the rug, the innocent suffer the most always.

How dear they cut Nzinga’s hair, this is abuse. Her parents should fight this to get justice for her. Can you imagine how she would have suffered had her mother not paid the money to release her from jail.
