May 18th, 1988, waiting at the airport in Keri Keri for a flight to Rotorua at 1530. Flight canceled due to earthquake about an hour earlier. Met the famous jockey Bill Shoemaker with over 8800 wins. Asked about driving there and they said the main road had dropped 7 feet in places.
