I left the greatest city 30 odd years ago looking for work so it’s always great to see footage like this. Can remember first going up the tower when I was about 9 or 10 with my older brother. Cost about 20 pence back in the day! 💙

20p really? Wow

I went a couple of times with mum and dad when it was a revolving restaurant in the 70’s. You would go the toilet and have to find your table as it moved around. 👍🏻😀

I worked for 30 years in that large building once called JM centre (littlewoods) i noticed you had church organ music at the start,my dad worked all over Africa installing organs in Churces and also at Prince charles school Gordonstoon,Charles came to watch every day he said. His company Rushworths imported The Beatles first guitars from Germany,richenbachers. My mum was in mI6 based in Cressington where the French resistance was organised from

As well as a restaurant and a snack bar at the top of the tower there was also a restaurant on the ground, a sort of beefeater type. One day myself and a few mates went in to have a posh meal. After lookin at the menu you could order a starter, main and a desert. My mate Billy ordered a soup and the waitress asked would he like anything else. He replied 'yeah a couple of butties'.

The one and only time I went up there was in the Autumn of 1980 - back then there was a restaurant at the top and it revolved slowly so you got to see the whole panorama while sitting at your table.

Great video. A schoolmate and I went up around 1985 and had magnificent views on a clear day. The upper level was open air and the lower level was slowly revolving. Wasn't there three revolution speeds 1, 2 or 3 rp/h? Distinctly remember watching the join in the floor where the moving outer section slid past the inner stationary section. Still have my 30p ticket from that memorable day.
@misterdroneuk2 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s amazing. Open air floor too 😱. If you are on Instagram or Facebook I’d love to see the 30p ticket

Cool video, have you ever gone up to the Tower in the Anglican cathederal in Liverpool? Might be too much for the kids as its 108 steps and 2 lifts but the view at the top is equally as stunning but a lot windier!

not been up the Beacon since I was a kid... It was a revolving restaurant back then. Might have to do it again. I've been up the CN Tower twice, so should be a cake walk. Actually... all of those visits.... a meal was eaten. Theme there, i'm a greedy sod.

My wife and I shall be visiting Liverpool soon, so we are trying to plan what to see and do while we are there. Not sure whether to go up the Radio City Tower at £7.50 each, or Manchester Cathedral Tower at £7.00 each ... surely one of them is plenty to see the sights of Liverpool. Which one do you think offers the better views ?
@cenaboyle7 ай бұрын
My grandad did the plumbing on the tower when it first went up. I died on the job having a heart attack
@thestig81332 жыл бұрын
My dad (now sadly passed away ) took me up on to the very top long before it became the radio city tower. It wasn't too bad a day ( what i can remember of it) a bit blowy but, not too bad. As it was my only time i went up there i felt a bit nervous but, my dad tried to assure me i was safe as it also had a well reinforced about 9 ft or so safety perimeter all the way around it. It was open to the elements of the weather. & the resturant was just a few feet below us that was on a slow rotating turntable Not that i ever went there. But, as far as i am aware of the last time i checked no-one was allowed up there apart from the son called DJ's security & any other work crew. & that was just before we had our first lock down So, if things have changed since fine. But, if anyone knows the prices please forward or inform myself as i would very much like to take my terrified G.F up to the observation deck. & no i do myself have a fear of heights aswell & yet i have flown & i absdolutely ❤💕💓 it. ( work that out 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 no i can't either) when i was in my mid to late teens (no g.f then) 😉
