LEGO Official Set vs FAN Made MOC - Which is Better?!
In this video we compare the official release Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO Ideas set 21331 with a fan made Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Modular MoC I created. We will get a bit of a flavour on how they compare with each other along with a time lapse speed build of the official LEGO set.

The official eggmobile has a stud sticking out specifically made to connect eggman on to it (eggman has a single point to connect a stud between his legs)

12:02 well the corkscrew loop was never apart of green hill to begin with it was only in emerald hill zone until sonic generations and this set was aiming to be like sonic 1(16 bit)

Your moc is almost perfect the only issue happens to be the loops the loop doesn’t have any space on the top to place a item box in the game every loop had that also the eggman is meant to connect to the stud on the inside of the eggmobile

Yes that is true the loops don't have space to have a TV on top. It probably isn't a difficult mod to put more of a "case" around it, but probably eat up alot more parts. Thanks for heads up about the eggman stud.

Meanwhile, with the mini figure, I think the egg mobile is way too tall for the mini figure so that’s why I consider the other one better

That is fair enough. Just the trade off between how 'round' something is vs how 'flat' it is

Those pins and holes or actually just saying, you can either connect it to another set or you can customize the whole thing

yeah the pins and holes give us hope for more expansion sets. With there now being a full sonic line due out soon, we'll just have to wait a bit longer.

there is a stud to connect eggman more secure in the eggmobile and there is a hole on the bottom of eggman to connect to the stud

I have that Sonic The Hedgehog lego set it was the best birthday gift from my mom 😊 I was happy I had the last one I got so lucky for the Green Hill Zone set I hope a Tails minifigure will be made into lego

The eggman can click in place, the seat has a stud and his butt has an antistud, you can easily place him stuck in there, from all the things you pointed out I'm surprised you didn't mention Eggmans ugly face! First thing I did after opening this set is grab 2 1x1 upward bracket plates and making the stache look mich better

Yeah I figured out the whole stud to keep eggman in place after the video. The face ... some times you are kinda happy they at least made an effort.

Really hoping we can get some more sets, possibly from more classic games, hopefully some early 3D games as well, would love to see shadow/super sonic and shadow as possible official figures. Personal favorite of mine is Blaze, but she's definitely a lot more of an obscure character compared to say the main 5ish characters most people will recognize, but would absolutely kill to see Sonic Rush sets. Just fingers crossed rn that we can get at least a tails and knuckles as either the tornado or angel island/master emerald sets.

There is a rumoured Sonic wave coming in August 2023 under the 'Gamer' brand and there should be about 4 sets. Will be interesting to see what they turn out to be and hopefully we get some of those characters you mentioned. A proper Tornado plane would be good as been thinking about modifying some other by planes that exist.... if only have enough time.

Nitpick 1 The corkscrew is in sonic 2 in emerald Hill and sonic mania in green Hill so sonic 1 doesn't have green hill corkscrews. Nitpick 2 The eggmobile is oval so the official lego one is accurate.

Yeah I think I mis-remembered the original Sonic but loop the loops and corkscrews I always associate with sonic. As for the Eggmobile, from the early Sonics it was 2D so guess I always thought of it as round... possibly could be an oval.

Eggman actually does stick to the egg mobile because of that one piece and on the bottom of Eggman you’ll see a piece that he can stick to The other piece

Looks great! I put together my own custom Green Hill Zone. It's made of 2 of these sets with an additional boss battle area as faithful looking as I can make it (Inc Robotnik being part of the zone. Not floating off to the side like Lego had in mind). Some custom minifigs round it off nicely. I posted it as a short if anyone wants to look.

I was determined to make a decent plane for my Tails minifig but couldn't get it how I wanted (nor had enough red!) but by chance I saw the 3 in 1 set 5866 and felt the plane had decent colours and was to scale for Sonic and Tails. I'll do a close up video sometime and also one of my red dune buggy for Knuckles. Sega really need to get some legit minifigs out and make a Sonic range. Green hill shouldn't be a one off kit. I've been thinking about what I can do with this set that would be more unique and I'm looking into buying some of the big outward facing curve pieces to compliment the inward curves of the loopdeloop and make a spindash tunnel segment, but I'm still not sure how I'd do the ball-form sonic.

You could find a basketball lego piece you won’t need and try to paint it blue, that or you could stylize a melon shaped bit with 2 blue dome pieces and a short technic axle. Should give a look like when Sonics about to zoom off in ball form when it has a sort of stretched look

Don't think the corkscrew came into sonic until the second game, so wouldn't really fit the Lego set being sonic 1. I loved the set scale aside as I have my Lego sets as display pieces. I liked how when you finish a part of the build they give you a chaos emerald for the display, thought that was a nice touch. I want to add the end boss scene to mine like what you have done. Your moc is amazing, but like you said this set is perfect for sitting on a shelf (or in my case my pc ATM)

You are probably right about the corkscrew ... its so long ago they blend together and always remember the loop feeding into the corkscrew. Its kinda like architecture Taj Mahal vs Creator Expert Taj Mahal. Still great to finally see an official sonic set.
