I think that one of the ways that parents can get their kids to stay off of Social Media as much as possible is to wait until their kids are old enough to get their own jobs and buy their own devices. That way it shows these kids that they are old to be more responsible by being more aware as to what does go on out there in the World while they are using these devices. Kids that age can’t multitask very well, and are basically clueless as to what can happen if they stay on these devices too long. Seriously, I didn’t get my first iPad until I was at least in my late 20’s, and I didn’t buy my first iPhone until I was in my late 30’s. That was because that during that time in my life, I had the money to buy these things for myself, my parents didn’t help me pay for these items.

This is the exact reason why my mom never allowed me to have a phone or computer until I was over the age of 18 and I had to get a job and pay for the device and service plan. My mom was extremely over protective, I wasn't even allowed to talk to kids at school cuz my mom didn't know them so she didn't trust them so I wasn't allowed tomhave friends at all. I'm almost 30 years old now and I still struggle to talk to people, having a job in fast food/restaurant industry is the worst cuz Im forced to interact with tons of people every day and it's very overwhelming and stressful for me and on top of everything I'm autistic and deaf so that really doesn't help

Yeah. Your mom was holding you back because she may have an ableist mindset. My mom wanted me to have friends so badly but didn't trust any of them once I made friends. I told my friends and were offended by her. I was offended by her too, for not thinking I knew how to make real friends.

Stick to texting your parents, auntie, uncle, grandparents, cousin, and your close friends with your phone. The parents should have taught their daughter what the purpose of dating is-to see if the person they are dating is the right person to marry and that dating is not ever to be recreational or casual and it is done only at the age a person is ready to take on the responsibilities of marriage. They should have let her know that if they see her typing inappropriate messages, her phone would be taken away and all her social media accounts would be deleted. The only way she would get them back is for parental controls to be installed. Parents need to make sure their children know how to act, who not to follow/subscribe to or who not to allow to follow/subscribe to them.
