I've always hated the thought of a research log, but this seems to be the perfect answer!

I'm so glad I could introduce you to something that really makes research logs less of a pain in the rump.

I am very new to genealogy research, as I am now the oldest child of parents. I have been using Find A Grave and I am trying to decide wether to get Ancestry, My Heritage or another subscription. I am fairly computer literate and I find your videos extremely encouraging and helpful. Thanks

Welcome to the genealogy club. I would recommend you try out the FREE genealogy website that is FamilySearch. You can build your family tree (and likely much of your genealogy is already there) and you can access many genealogy records for free as well. Try out these videos to learn more. kzbin.info/aero/PLcVx-GSCjcdmTQWonBrjNsalbOCH6ZcWx

Thanks Devon! I'm excited to make screen shots of census record information and then have it saved in the Goldie May log.

Thanks Devon! This looks Awesome! I'm constantly working on different devices, so this gives me a great way to track my work! Looking forward to trying it out!

Good luck. It does go across many devices IF it has access to Chrome Browsers. Some iPads do have challenges. But I work across three different laptops/computers at home. Then I go to libraries and use their computers. It's nice that I don't have to carry SD cards or some such thing.

I certainly agree with you that Goldie May is a wonderful tool and I highly recommend it. New features and improvements are constantly being added and Richard K. Miller, who developed Goldie May, is always very helpful if you have any questions or suggestions. Thank you so much for this video. I would also love to see some videos on working through research projects using Goldie May, such as an over the shoulder view of the process.
@joanthomas70792 жыл бұрын
Yes yes please over the shoulder would be GREAT
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea. Let me see what I can do about a research over my shoulder with Goldie May. I might work with Richard to develop it for his channel as a collaboration.

Thank you yet again for a very informative video. Can Goldie May be used also on websites that are based outside the U.S also?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
If you can access a website through your Chrome browse, the answer is yes. You just have to start your session from a FamilySearch page. Then you can navigate within the same tab or open another.

It let me sign into FS but not my other sites. What to do?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
Sign into the other sites? I'm not sure I follow. Goldie May does not have access to other websites. It only tracks what you open. So, you will have to log into other sites in the research window. Then Goldie May (in it's own window) will track your progress. Does that help clarify? If not, leave me a new comment (meaning, don't reply to this one), so I can see your response.
@Deanawat2 жыл бұрын
@@FamilyHistoryFanatics I meant my Ancestry account specifically but I've contacted Richard. No matter what I tried, Ancestry and GM couldn't play together.
@Historian2122 жыл бұрын
So, how does FS use this to follow our trail in our research? Too invasive for me.
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
FamilySearch doesn't use this to track your research. You use Goldie May to track your online research. I'm not sure that would classify as invasive unless I'm not understanding your point. If I am misunderstanding, start a new comment on this video so KZbin will let me know you replied. It's a funny platform that doesn't let me see replies. Only initial comments I haven't responded to.
@ridif2 жыл бұрын
Does it work with Ancestry ?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
yes and no. As explained in the video, you have to start from a FamilySearch profile. Then you can log ANY website, including Ancestry. So yes, it works with Ancestry. No, it doesn't only work with Ancestry or work from an Ancestry starting point.

Hello, I have a question. I am searching for a certain person but can't find them, how would I go about doing that?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow. That's a difficult question because I don't know if the person is a live or dead. I also don't know what you know about the person. I have a few videos that talk about getting started in genealogy research. I hope you'll take a look at some of them. kzbin.info/aero/PLcVx-GSCjcdmx3tuunJC_oJ9Qq4bsRhew
