Could the unhealthy patterns in your marriage reveal more than just your relational health?
Preston and Jackie Hill Perry-authors, speakers, and podcast hosts-discuss trauma responses, the importance of community, and the fears we all struggle with in marriage:
Fear of failing.
Fear of submitting.
Fear of being found unworthy.
They remind us that while marriage might be one of the hardest things we’ll ever do, it can also be what brings the most growth and fulfillment.

For those facing divorce watching this...we've done counseling, tried therapists, pastors and jesus for myself although he professed Christianity. Our church even sent us to a Family Life conference which by the way was life changing for myself, but felt like i was there alone. Jackie spoke about marriage being the hardest thing you will ever do, leaning into your marriage..i say evaluate what exactly you're leaning into, as ladies how are you being led...because you're always being led as married women despite what you may think...if you arent being able to lean into safety and protection, and sin is more rampant than your spouse seeking the Father...your marriage may not be purposeful or designed for you to even be in...dont feel guilty. Surrender to God, he will disciple yourself and your family in His time, he will give you direction and discernment to make hard decisions to glorify your life and his name. Praying for all of us struggling and trapped in marriages that are painful.

I’m currently divorced but I was married and in ministry for 10 years and everything both couples spoke on was what my marriage was like for 10 years. We didn’t have a couple discipling us as a married couple. And I always felt like the ministry and his family came before me. I became so bitter and resentful until I stopped praying for my spouse. I’m not sure if I will ever be married to a man again, but praying and seeking discipleship in my personal life no matter what package it comes in is something I want to pursue.

So good. Most everything said on this podcast I’ve felt lately. The baggage I’ve brought into my marriage, how can I influence or ‘change’ my husband to be a better husband, setting the example of how I’d like to be treated. All so good. I’m very new to ministry and I have felt the urgency to be on my knees all the time- the heaviness not from the actual ministry but the weapons forming have been the hardest to deflect. But somehow at the same time, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just trying to learn how to fight my spiritual battles better, to be in a better position. This message was just a confirmation that this is normal. It’s given me comfort to know this happens. Thank you.

I’m white, grew up in a well-to-do community in the south, went to Christian school, attended a church that followed Bill Gotthard, James Dobson, etc etc. I did not like it. I’ve been influenced by both of them, but Jackie is a beacon of, something, I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s just authenticity. She’s not fluffy or legalistic. She’s artsy and intellectual. I just wasn’t exposed to Christians like her. I like it. 😊

The most amazing commentary on marriage I have ever heard. I am one of the broken who was married to a pastor for 47 years and it blew up for the exact reasons you said. Not unfaithful ness. But exactly as you said. Jesus was not first. The church was. I was crucified because he had not been unfaithful. God showed me that Israel was not all sleeping around. The word He uses means “other gods” not just sleeping around. Thank you. Thank you for the broadcast and for your faithfulness.

This was a fantastic podcast and so on time because God is calling the father of my daughter and I to get married and I was just saying to myself this morning that I was going to depend upon Jesus entirely for this relationship. My yes to this marriage is a complete reflection of my faith in God because I know I can’t do it and wouldn’t have done it had He not said to do it and with the knowledge that He is faithful and will always be there for us. This podcast encouraged me to keep moving forward and have hope in the goodness, power, and faithfulness of God!!

I always appreciate the Preston's boring out of themselves to The Lord. Living with The Lord must be a life of constant surrendering our entire view for His only view. Jackie and Preston are God's reflections of lives continuously offered up to Him, in turn He produces His fruit for others to receive. Thank you both for the fresh manna.

Love this.. I feel like my husband and I battle so many of these things. God has really been using this couple to speak into my heart on such a deep level, as well as a former Pastor named Mark DeJesus. He does a lot of podcasts/videos on mental emotional and relationship health. I think a big problem we all face is portraying that image of our own traumas and broken families and parents onto God and expecting Him to be the same towards us..
