I bought my white on red 2016 GS350 F-Sport RWD a year ago today with 41k miles for $28k USD & it still impresses me! A near perfect car overall that still puts a big smile on my face every time I drive it! I put almost 9k miles on it so far & haven't had a single problem as expected for a Lexus. Really couldn't ask for a better car!

The GS is definitely overlooked but I think it's a sound choice for someone looking for a long term vehicle. As a pre-owned daily driver, it's a no brainer. Too bad Lexus discontinued it, left the sport sedan duties to the IS350/500

the ES has more interior room because of its front drive platform, the GS has to accommodate the less space efficient rear drive drivetrain

Family Wheels it seems like the Canadian version is better equipped than the U.S one and bundle most of the options into packages which makes sense... the GS in the U.S has way to many stand alone options...heads up display alone is $900

You made a small error in your comment about the front seats, you can program the seat to not move back when the car is turned off or alternatively only move a small distance, and the passenger seat does not move backwards when the ignition is off. Also your front passenger seat position could not have been close to the back position, I am 6’4” and have plenty of leg room. I can in fact sit comfortably behind myself in this car. I do agree the seat bottoms don’t quite have that under lower thigh support where you can almost start to have a nice under knees bolster like some competitors such as the discontinued Holden Commodore or some SUVs such as the Ford Everest (both Australian vehicles).

Well, let's be fair, 6'2" in the back with the opposing front seat positioned for a 6'0" driver. There's a reason why basketball players that have monstrously tall children drive SUVs instead of taking the ol' GS 350 F Sport to the ski resort during holiday. However, with all of that said, this will probably be the car I own for the first 3 or so years I have kids, so this kind of review is what I was looking for. The kid seat info was nice, especially the perforated back seats and the possibility of rubbish collecting in those perforations. Otherwise, I've driven this car already, along with the E 300 from Merc and the Audi A4. The A4 was fantastic with the price tag to match. The E was good, but you could definitely feel the heft as it wafted you along. I appreciate the elegance of the tech being hidden from you in the Merc, but it would definitely take getting used to rather than the GS and the A4, as they're just simply more accessible. However, this would just take the commitment of learning before you really get comfortable with the Merc. The GS I think offers the most bang for buck. It put a smile on my face the whole time I drove it, (as did the A4 in Dynamic setting), but it obviously doesn't have the technological panache of the A4 (which I can appreciate), but I'm not sure I'd pay the extra 2k to 4k premium over the GS for that, let alone the possibility of reliability not being as forgiving compared to the GS. However, if the 2k to 4k premium was for an A5 sportback, I think I could be convinced. I haven't bothered driving a 5 series since I don't trust BMW's to make it past the warranty period without extensive work having to be performed. But, I *really want to be convinced* that having a M550i xDrive is a good decision to make. I mean, it's also an AWD 4-door which makes for the perfect family car, isn't it?

My second GSF sport in the last 4 years. I love the 2018. If they discontinue it. The lose me as a customer ,pretty simple. The 2019 ESF sport resembles this car. But pulls on a front wheel drive platform. Ugh!

I agree with your assessment of the infotainment system having owned my Lexus for a month; the navigation lags often and scrolling through MP3s on my USB drive is rather difficult. It would greatly benefit from a scroll wheel on the "mouse." Either I'm using the navigation system wrong or it is EXTREMELY laggy, especially when the vehicle is first started, which is when I'm most likely to want to use it... In some cases it has taken almost 10 minutes to get directions and there have been a couple situations where it hasn't even given the right directions! (IE, it couldn't tell the difference between Jane St East and Jane St West and took me to the wrong end of the city! It didn't have an option to select between the two, the only street that appeared was "Jane St" and it had no west or east option when inputting in the address.) I also had to cut down the number of songs on the USB drive (still quite a lot... around 15 gigs, but I had my entire collection on there before... which is around 25 gigs) because it was taking the device 10+ minutes to index the files on the drive before I could even browse through the directories, let alone use voice commands to select an artist or album! Before I reduced the number of files, I was driving for over an hour and it still gave me an error that the voice commands weren't available for searching my media yet! Thankfully, reducing the number of files on my USB stick has remedied these problems and it only takes a couple of minutes to be able to browse the drive and only about 10 minutes to use the voice commands. All that being said, I love my Lexus; every time I get into the driver's seat I never want to leave; it drives great, has some of the best reliability ratings in the industry and is extremely comfortable... But Toyota's infotainment system is far, FAR behind the competition. It is the one aspect of my new car I would say I'm disappointed in and since the quality of everything else is so great, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Jordy Steinberg The infotainment system has been improved on the new Lc and LS 2018 models. Let's wait and see how great it is when in the market and properly reviewed. There's even hand writing recognition available with the flat pad. It is no longer a mouse, the truth is u have a whole lot of files on that USB, I doubt u'll find any car infotainment system that won't lag when searching for music on a USB with so many files or tracks. Even high class home stereo systems don't read USB's with that many files unless broken down into various folders of a particular number of songs. You shouldn't blame Lexus for that brother, I doubt even the E class entertainment system would fair better in this regard.

As someone heavily interested in computer electronics, I can tell you that the technology to be able to read and index that many files seamlessly is widely available and standard on all machines; at a USB 3.0 transfer rate, it shouldn't be a problem. This isn't even near bleeding edge, consumer level technology, which would be a type C connector. Imagine how slow operating systems would have been in the late 90ies if your statement were true; IDE interfaces are slower than USB 2.0. The amount of data it takes to index files is minimal, even with thousands of directories. This is something that was a huge issue in the 80ies and somewhat in the early 90ies for databasing on servers; now a smartphone does it instantaneously. What it sounds like is audio companies are getting away with only using the most basic MECHANICAL interface for USB connections and the car companies are following suit. That is, it sounds like it's only running a USB 1.0 interface. "Screw the customer" is too common a business practice; fortunately some company is likely to realize that the few dollars difference in production cost is grossly worth consumer satisfaction.

There is a New GS that Lexus is working on for 2018-2019. I found out that Lexus does not have apple CarPlay or android CarPlay because there have been tech issues with the apps when there are updates with the apps for Apple car play and android CarPlay in vehicles until those issues are fixed with the software there will not be an available apple CarPlay or android.

i own this car and the two majors problems with this car is the trunk. it is tiny, and you cant put the seats down for longer items or boxes... it sucks sucks sucks. other one is 12.9L/100km in the summer , 13.9 L/100km in the winter, and that is premium gas. the rest is a wonderful car

When I was looking for a sedan to replace my Golf mark VI hatchback, I wanted something that was just as practical and offered the same amount of room for rear passengers, as well as trunk space is considered. And I found that the Mazda 6 sedan (Here in Europe it is also offered as a wagon) offers a ton of space and it's also quite a looker.

Should be fine. The wheelbase is almost identical to that of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and slightly longer than the BMW 3 Series of the era.

Pretty good review except for the segment on the DS going back. It’s not going back unless the driver sets it up their preferences. Personally I don’t use that. But as an owner of the GSF SPORT it’s an overall great vehicle. That unfortunately will soon see its demise on the assembly line It’s due for an overhaul and the money will rather be spent in SUVs Wake up Lexus. Not everyone wants a suv or a Es FWD car

GS is not overlooked, it's just not competitive. Much like Pretend BMW Gizmotron (aka Infinity), there is little compelling reason to pick it over it's rivals. Panoramic sunroofs put a lot of mass high above the car's roll axis and they are detrimental to good handling.

It won a Motortrend comparison test a couple years ago. Beat the 5 series, etc, with driving dynamics among the highest weighted criteria. You can get 4 wheel steering on it FYI.

In Europe on the hybrid version there's a presidential line available for the Gs 450 h and the interior has way better materials than this. Has 18 way adjustable seats and fully loaded. The quality of the leather and tech in there is just way ahead of this test model of yours. It's a shame about the leg room though, but u shouldn't complain that much about fade away seat and steering wheel for the driver. It's made for the benefit of driver and to give him easy access out of the car. I would like to ask does the Audi A6 and other German competitors have this feature as standard? Would appreciate a reply. In most cases the driver is usually the last person to get out of the car. It means most times the passengers in the rear seat would be out of the car before the driver shuts down the vehicle. There are exceptions though for eg when the driver has to pop out to get something briefly with passengers waiting in the car. I don't think it's that big of a deal and I believe it's something they'll sort out as well.

Hi Samson... thanks for watching! Auto sliding seats are not standard on the A6 (here in Canada). And as a family guy, I have to disagree that the driver is most often the last to get out. I'm always the first who then gets out to help my kids. Got a tip from another viewer who says this function can get turned off in the settings, though. That's good news!
