As a M5 and C63 owner, all the things Doug mentioned that makes the German cars technologically superior to the GS-F are the exact features that ironically makes them unreliable. Lexus may be very late to the technology party, but I'm certain that Lexus owners don't suffer from anxiety of being stranded on the side of the road due to unreliable tech as some of us BMW and Mercedes owners do ;)

@@Matys1975 exactly my point. Lexus is a very good company besides reliability but it’s behind the Germans. But I wouldn’t give up my reliability for those german features that I lose thank u very much. "not all that high performance" 477 HP from a high revving 5.0L V8 with no forced induction... I would also argue that the GS-F is not actually competing with the M5/E63s, but rather the M-performance and 43-line variants of those platforms. Lexus never developed a turbocharged V8 engine for any of their cars, and they don't seem interested in getting into that market because of cost and lack of clout.

I had an ISF before and now a RCF. Transmission is very aggressive in sport+ and very relaxed in regular. Doug wouldn't realize that for having it for 6 hrs or a day. It takes time to learn how this car behaves in different modes. Lexus designed it that way. There are abused ISFs with over 300k miles with no issues. This car will last a million miles without any repairs with proper maintenance and no modification. Just delete the muffler and resonators and it sounds so good. I have people come upto me to say it sounds much better than mustangs and other American NA 5 ltr V8s all the time.

(before 2000s) TBF, I do agree that it is better value to buy it used, but that applies most cars. Absolutely this. Clarkson also reviewed the GSF and rated it more highly than an M5 or M3 ("this flawed old-school charmer has them beat"). Matt from Carwow also compared it to an M2 in drifting and the GS won easily. Doug seems to be on his own in this one, although I don't doubt a lot of people in the comments who have never driven a GS will agree with him.

@@Z06ified The car's handling and sound haven't got any worse. It is a previous generation car so I do agree that it's not the right new car for many people now but this review still seems oddly biased- I'm a Doug fan and it surprised me. Bear in mind that he rated the RCF handling better than the GSF which I'm not aware of anyone else ever having done- it seems pretty unanimous elsewhere that the GSF is far superior to the RCF and yet Doug clearly disagrees (which he's entitled to do but it's very surprising). He also loved the sound and didn't complain about the power of the same engine in the LC500 but not in this, yet it's virtually the same (10bhp more, same sound). It's not just about other brands, the review seems harsh compared to even other Lexus models.

Wouldnt you rather sacrifice that horsepower to get a car that is practically bulletproof and will still be on the road after 10 years with no problems? All this high numbers crap is to impress people who know nothing about cars so they can brag about their high horsepower. I would kill for this car, test drove a used one and fell in love with it(though I cannot afford it). Settled for a Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R Spec which is plenty fun, but doesn't have the same character as this car. The exhaust opens up when you throttle it down a straight, and is choked unless you throw it into Sport Plus. The best sounding production V8 in its segment in my opinion, Mercedes, BMW and Audi don't have Yamaha tuning their exhaust notes like they did with the LFA and they sure as hell took some notes from that here. Will be buying one in the 30-35k range that's not salvage as soon as they go that low.

I’ve had a 2013 GS 350 since 2013. Through 7 years I’ve put over 100,000 miles on mine. I can tell you one bad flaw in this model is that the servo motor for the air conditioning system has broken down three times in 7 years. I was lucky the first 2 times as my car was under warranty till 2018 and it was fixed for free but in January 2020 it broke for the third time and to replace it with labor cost me $1400 US. It’s a very badly designed motor. It’s hidden behind the dashboard, so the company has to literally take apart the entire car from the inside to fix it. According to the dealership it’s a very common issue in this generation of the GS and ES models. Servo motor basically controls the air of the cabin and when it breaks down by default the vents stay open permanently so basically your car does not cool the interior at all. It’s terrible because I live in Dubai and temperatures reach way over 110 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s the only big issue I faced with my car.
@rahuldaryanani7292
@rahuldaryanani7292 4 жыл бұрын
@Frankie Basile the heat has been there for years. I have other vehicles as well and they don't face this problem, I have a Honda accord 2014 with over 130,000 miles on it now and it has never given me a problem like my GS has. I know it sucks but that's the reality, luxury doesn't always mean better quality. In fact in my experience luxury cars actually give you more problems over the years because of complex options in them. If you ever owned a Mercedes-Benz or BMW for 5+years, you will definitely face a few hiccups. Regarding the problem in the GS, its an extremely common issue in this generation because of the materials inside the servo motor are 90 percent plastic, countries like Japan and majority of the states in USA don't have extreme heat conditions like dubai. So a company as big as lexus can't customise internal parts for different countries, that will cost them hundreds of millions for changing just the outer shell of a servo motor in an already established production line plus plastic is obviously much cheaper to work with.

@@mattstone3279 the new isf will have the V8. But yeah I've always bought Japanese cars, but also driven BMW's and Mercedes and they are fantastic cars, but I like keeping my cars for at least five years.

It´s worth 89k because it has a feature no other competitor has: a CD player.

And just like that the GSF is 50% more expensive on the used market

? Based on what evidence? Nothing worse than a false claim. Ive been watching the prices daily for last two weeks you can still find one for $35k no problem.

Juan Baritone, so? I never claim I’m a certified market researcher. It’s a god-damn meme that a used car’s price increases whenever Doug reviews it. Are you a boomer or just party pooper?

@@lauterbornie if you modify the exhaust and headers it sounds ungodly. Like the best V8 Sound I've ever heard and the limiter is just brutal. Mark my words, I will buy an RCF when the right one comes around.

Headers, catbacks, and a supercharger will set you up right. Fast as the turbocharged teutons but sounds like a proper machine.
