Since I am turkish and kurdish we also celebrate newroz but it also has an other historical meaning to us then just the beginning of spring or new year in this case. I liked your summary, but it would be nice if you would also include the historical meaning of persian newroz and the differences between the two other countries celebrating it. As far as I know iranians are also lighting up big fires and jumping over it for good luck, but for example it's not the case in Turkmenistan, Ozbekistan, Kirgizistan and other turkic countries. Would like to know why that is but anyways I had my first encounter with persian newroz when i was invited to my best friends home during march when I was in high school. Her family was from iran but with armenian roots and it was funny to mee that they had actually cut out real grass from their backyard and placed it in the middle of the living room table. The whole house was decorated with flowers and golden lametta, ornaments and diamonds. Her mother did also put some coloured eggs on the grass and they had some goldfish swimming in a bowl next to it. So I got totally confused because btw I'm living in Germany and that's what they would do for easter here. My friend just looked at me and said never mind my mom likes to show off that's what we do in Iran. When we ate her mom would ask me you want gosht , want pilaw, want nan, want drink dogh because it's the same in kurdish. I really enjoyed that day but I wished i would have known what tahdik was at that time because I missed the chance to taste it.
