Lee Thompson Young (February 1, 1984 - August 19, 2013) was an American actor who began his career as a teenager, playing the titular character on the Disney Channel television series The Famous Jett Jackson (1998-2001). As an adult, major roles included playing Chris Comer in the movie Friday Night Lights (2004) and Boston police detective Barry Frost on the TNT police drama series Rizzoli & Isles (2010-14).
Young was born in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of Velma Elaine (née Love) and Tommy Scott Young. He was in the second grade when his parents' marriage ended, and he went to live with his mother. At age ten, he portrayed Martin Luther King Jr. in a play called A Night of Stars and Dreams by Dwight Woods, and the Phillis Wheatley Repertory Theater of Greenville, South Carolina. It was then that Young decided he wanted to become an actor.
Young moved to New York City in June 1996, but it was not until the next year that he auditioned for the part of Jett Jackson in The Famous Jett Jackson. He filmed the pilot and found out in June 1998 that the Disney Channel had picked up the show; it would go on to become a Disney Channel Original Movie in June 2001. Young also starred in Johnny Tsunami (1999), another Disney Channel Original Movie, as Sam Sterling. Although the movie was successful, he did not reprise the role in the sequel, Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board (2007).
After the cancellation of The Famous Jett Jackson, Young had guest spots in the CBS series The Guardian. He also had a part in the movie Friday Night Lights (2004), portraying Chris Comer, and a part in the Jamie Foxx movie Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story (2004). Lee appeared on UPN's TV drama series South Beach, and he portrayed Victor Stone (known in DC Comics as Cyborg) in a fifth-season episode of the television series Smallville, in 2006; which character he reprised in the Season Six episode "Justice" (airdate January 18, 2007), and again in the Season Nine finale "Salvation" (airdate May 14, 2010).
Young appeared in the feature film Akeelah and the Bee (2006), playing Akeelah's brother Devon. He played National Guard rookie, Delmar, in The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007). In 2009, Young played a cocky surgical intern in the hit comedy show Scrubs. It is revealed that his character had been overweight during childhood. The character becomes involved in a romance with one of the medical interns.
Young played the role of Al Gough, an FBI agent, in the ABC television drama FlashForward. He was written off the show in episode 7, when his character committed suicide to prevent the death of an innocent civilian. His last acting role was playing Barry Frost, partner of Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) on the TNT drama Rizzoli & Isles, and he made an appearance on the Fox drama The Good Guys as the brother and business partner of an arms dealer.
On August 19, 2013, Young failed to show up to film an episode of Rizzoli & Isles. Police were called to do a wellbeing check on him at his Los Angeles apartment, where he was found dead. His manager stated that the actor died by suicide. Police confirmed the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Young had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, for which he had been taking medication, and had been suffering from depression before his death.
After funeral services at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Young was interred at Lakeview Memorial Garden, York, South Carolina. A memorial service was held on the Paramount Studios lot.
Young's family launched the Lee Thompson Young Foundation in an effort to help remove the stigma surrounding mental illness.

I watched him and grew up watching the famous jet Jackson and also his other shows as well. The African words on his tomb stone is a blessing from a religion known as IFA(ee-fuh) Youruba religion native to regions of Ghana 🇬🇭 Togo, Benin 🇧🇯 and Nigeria. It’s an West African religion that’s known to practice the art form of Divination. Sorry I know that was long, but wanted to tell you! Look it up it’s actually quite interesting and I started to learn that it also is in the neighborhood practiced as Santería as well. Love your channel its been helping me with my fear of death, grave yards, as well as learning thank you for doing this there are several people I’ve been able to pay my respects through you as well as go to some places to pay respects. Scott is right you never know what someone is going through. Actors and actresses may have all the money and fame they ever need but when someone like this talented young man who suffered from bipolar disorder suicidal thoughts doesn't linger to far away from there minds. My cousin suffers from bipolar disorder and has tried many times to end her life I feel so sorry for people like this. Like I was saying earlier the only TV show I remember him in he played Victor Stone as cyborg he was a part of the Justice League on the TV show Smallville 🙏

I once saw a quote that read, 'Sometimes the prettiest smiles hide the deepest secrets. Be kind. You never know what battles someone is fighting." It's just a good rule of thumb to be kind. And the Bible says that treat others the way you want to be treated.

They may have all the money and fame that they need or want, but it's times like this that should prove to everyone that as much as it might be "nice" to have at times, it doesn't make one happy :( It does but it's not LONG TERM Happiness. Its not Real Happiness!!! Hope that makes sense. A person might be 'happy' getting what they want (all material things that money can buy) but it's short-lived. JMO

I just wanted to write a quick note thanking you for your gravesite videos. The love of my life died unexpectedly in August and although most of my family have already passed, he’s the only one in a cemetery and it’s been kinda awkward because it’s new to me. I get nervous because I don’t know who is going to be out there, how long to stay, feeling exposed by being out in the open. But watching your visits is normalizing it for me and maybe one day I won’t be a wobbly baby giraffe.

@WiseAngelUK
@WiseAngelUK 2 жыл бұрын
Mental health isn't about conquering our demons, its about accepting we are ill and need help. Until we accept we are ill, then we can't begin to heal. The wasy I look at the depression I've battled for over 20 years is, an "Unwelcome visitor comes to stay and unpacks their suitcases" Some times they bring a lorryload of luggage, sometimes its a carry-on bag. The carry-on is easyier to deal with and that unwelcome visitor is soon gone. The one with the lorry load, I need therapy to pack that visitor up and throw them out. So please please please dont use the term "battling demons" as that is a derogatory term coined by the press which stuck.

Its tough to hear these stories of famous people committing suicide but a part of me believes that they were the only ones who could really assess their own situation and make a judgment call on whether to continue or not. Some people think that therapy and medication is the answer to some mental illnesses but they don't realize that not all patients will respond favorably to the medication they are taking, or even find a therapist who can really understand and help their situation. I hope for medical break throughs in this area and I hope it comes soon. RIP, Lee Thompson Young.

I was wondering how it would be handled on the show and I thought they handled it about as well as it could have been. They just made like he had a car accident on the show and had funeral on the show and continued to be brought up and remembered. I'm sure was quite a shock to his colleagues as well.

Not gonna lie, Scott, this one was hard to watch. BIG fan of Jett Jackson and Lee Young growing up. Tragic is what it is. When your heart is torn and your spirits broken, please do not forget that you have a friend in Jesus and He will wrap His loving arms around you until you feel all better. And then He’ll wrap them around you even tighter and never let you go. Come to Him all who are weary...please! 🙌🏾

This was a truly tragic loss of a smart, beautiful person. When I heard of his death I cried and cried again when they paid tribute to him on Rizzoli and Isles. You just never know what goes on in the minds of others that is why you should practice kindness with others and let your loved ones know how much you love and appreciate them while they are here because you never know. The worst thing to live with is regret.

It's so sad when someone so young, talented and successful takes their own life. What was missing from his life? Thanks for visiting him. You're so loving and respectful of the dead. I understand the significance of leaving the rock. I grew up in NYC amongst many Jewish neighbors. I've gone to unveilings one year after their death. You're a mensch...
