A video about the famous sound or presets used in hip hop featuring the Neptunes. I'm using the Korg Triton VST plugin. The Neptunes produced more than 97% of in the late 1990s to the early 2000s using this legendary keyboard! Their iconic sound was powered by the Triton. However they weren't the only people using it. Which producer do you want me to cover next? Dr. Dre, Scott Scortch, DJ Toomp, Dark Child, Bryan Micheal Cox, etc.? Let me know in the comments!

The fact that they used only the triton and made so many classic with limited amount of sounds.....producers nowadays have access to hundreds thousands of sounds and all they shit sound the same. Neptune’s forever the goat.

The japanese are geniuses, they helped hip-hop producers by gifting them quality sounds through the keyboard. I pulled out my old 1990 yamaha psr 60 and reproduced Jagged Edge Promise with the epiano and stock pre-programmed drums.

Funny how the Triton basically is that "Neptunes Sound", but I think they could have made dope beats on pots n pans and using a toy piano. The difference between a lot of producers today and The Neptunes might be the fact that they met in band class in school. Meaning they knew how to play instruments as opposed to using a mouse for making beats. That's not meant to sound disrespectful because honestly some of the stuff producers have made using just a mouse is incredible. Still, It's always good to improve your ability by taking some time to learn music theory and even get some basic knowledge of playing an instrument. If everyone keeps on just cut and pasting chord progressions they download from the internet everything is bound to sound the same. Sad thinking in the future most people making music might not even know how to play an instrument. Plus beat-selling websites want you to download like 3 tracks daily to get any type of promotion so you end up racking out a lot of garbage beats just to meet a quota. When you gotta pay rent you have no choice if this is how you make a living.

Everyone used the triton then. If you look at any producer from heatmakers to swizz or someone they used it. I produce on the triton. My friend did a song for Beyonce on his triton. Then it was basically triton, mpc, pro tools, asr 10 etc Later came fantom, motif

I worked at a Sam Ash Music store at the height of The Triton. It was way too much fun! EVERYONE was playing that Synth. Dudes that worked in the Brass and Woodwind department spent time in the Keyboard department, the Cashiers spent time in Keyboards, Drums dudes spent time in Keyboards. People would come in off the streets and make some absolute bangers on that Synth almost daily. I used to close out the Cash Registers then head over to Keyboards and jam with the damn Managers! Haha.

@solaariz
@solaariz 4 жыл бұрын
I believe the Neptunes were actually using a Trinity for a lot of those hits. They did use the Triton a lot as well but a lot of those were on the Trinity like the Grindin beat. I recall Pharell doing an interview where he was asked about what filters he used for the drums on Busta "Light yo a.. on fire" and he said they were just stock Trinity sounds. Most of those sounds were transferred to the Trinity but as a previous owner of both synths, I feel the Trinity sound engine was superior to the Triton's. I think Kelis' hard to find 2nd album Wonderland was primarily the Trinity and the 01W. I may be mistaken but I do know they were heavy Trinity users.
@eman0828
@eman0828 Жыл бұрын
I mean they are sort of the same thing as the Triton is just an updated version of the Trinity keyboard as many of the same sounds carried over. They do have a slight different sound because of the converters and filters. But most of the strings patches and everything are the same.

I've heard about the triton a bunch of times, but was somehow put off whenever I looked up Korgs website... I've been in search of (Pun intended) this sounds for a long time. I remember buying Logic Pro X because I've heard it has a lot of real instruments sound, which indeed were cool, but I never got around using logic, as the midi editing was just not for me. I also bought a lot of other (plugin) synths, thinking that'd it finally get my hands on those sounds that I used to hear as a kid, they were definitely great too, but again: not for me. But finally, today I saw the Triton in a video with Timbaland an Jay-Z in the studio, when Timbaland showed him the beat for what eventually became "Dirt off your shoulder". Immediately tried the demo and went through the sounds and had a lot of fun enjoying all those patches. Thus said: thank you for this video. A lot of people might think that the Triton is outplayed, but considering how many (Nep)tunes were made with this thing... I sure think it would be a welcome contrast to all the Omnisphere and Nexus we are used to for the last 5-10 years

Ave, first off, awesome videos and thank you very much for sharing your time with this. Second, in regards to showing the chord progressions, all you really need to do is move the Triton GUI up on the screen far enough and people can see what keys you are pressing on the virtual keyboard on the screen. Thirdly, after watching your previous videos on it, I went and bought the whole Korg Synths package because I used to play on all those synths way back in the day 80s and 90s and really wanted to get one. Now, for $299, I was able to get virtual versions that are true to the originals in digital form! Thanks!

@@AveMcree Once the company stops supporting the software and stop making it and you upgrade your OS, you will run into compatibility issues. Ever heard of LinPlug? That company doesn't even exist anymore as they went out of business. Hardware can last for decades as nothing would replace its authentic sound. Those filters were engineered to give it, it's sound and character. That is why J.R Rotem, myself and Ryan Leslie still kept out legacy hardware around. I play at live gigs as a musician from time to time and would trust my Motif over soft synth in terms of reliability and the warmth you get from hardware. If you ever walked into black churches you still older gen Motifs, Fantoms and Tritons still in use. Those boards were really built to last. J.R Rotem still has an XV-5080 module racked in his desk.

Those are now timeless sounds. Pharrell said that his goal was to accentuate just how outdated and unused a lot of those sounds had gotten, and try to bring them to the forefront.

The Triton sounds are full and thick which made them stand out, you can make a hit track with just one sound.

If they do this for iOS like they did for the iM1, that will change the game for gigging, travelling keyboard players. Even a stock Triton, with at least the Concert Piano expansion, you could cut pretty much any gig with that. Or at least that with a decent Nord for all the other meat & potatoes sounds.

Annoyed by the folks saying "these sounds are dated".....are keys dated? Are strings dated? Are drums dated? All sounds have been used and the only option for you is to start using atonal noise..... ain't nothing new under the sun. This is a gem, make music with it

I'd very much like to get your perspective on how the Triton menu/user interface, which I found suuuuper hard to understand as someone used to making tunes on a DAW, like how the limitations of the UI might have influenced how folks like the Neptunes might have written their tunes using the Triton sequencer, where so many parameters in the keyboard would be easier to access using a piano roll. Maybe they used a piano roll and sent MIDI out but I dunno, just really wanna know what you think cause you know ur sheet
