As a former timpanist, I don't know how it never occurred to me to combine a timpano and a cymbal. That's a really cool sound.

I know for me I never thought about it because I was just taught to never put anything on a timpani head. Mostly due to the cost of replacing them. Of course playing in higher level ensembles taught me the resiliance of the timpani/timpani heads but regardless metal on a fairly damagable surface wouldnt have crossed my mind.

We played Sleigh Ride in high school band, and someone was recording close ups on specific people. The guy that played the slap stick broke it during the first hit.
