These three monuments look GREAT after dark but others are best seen during the day. If possible always sign up for a guided tour (with a live human tour guide) for the best experience! More here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpXTgKSJdrqNqKc

I am making a trip to the US in september and your videos are the reason I added 4 nights in DC to the trip. This tour was actually one of the big ones on my list. Also, the thing with the red lights is an Aircraft warning light and it must be on any building over 200 feet. Interestingly this is why the buildings at the Disney Parks use forced perspective to seem taller but max out at 198 feet.

Another great video Rob, I really didn’t expect to see so many people around so late at night but as you say, the views are stunning. Although we didn’t walk around at night, we did feel very safe in D.C. with Clare also commenting that she would have no problem walking around on her own! She wouldn’t do that at home that’s for sure

Great video as always. The monuments look amazing at night, it's on our list to do when we visit in September. Facebook reminded me today that 6 years ago this weekend was my first ever trip to DC.

one time I was walking around the reflecting pool at night and it was so dark I fell into the reflecting pool - not the reflecting pool itself but this little pool between the reflecting pool and the WWII memorial. It was so dark and the water was so still I thought it was solid floor so I decided to walk across, only to find out it was water

Yeah I had to be super careful when I got over there. Between trying to film and narrate there was a greater than zero chance I could have had a wet shoe 😂

200 ft I think is the height where structures are required to have blinking light as you put it. It’s why Cinderella’s castle is only 189 ft tall so they wouldn’t have to put a blinking light atop. Thanks for the video!

We will be visiting in late December and will be there for New Years. Very excited as none of us have gone before. Ive binge watched most of your channel. I know DC is not a "New Years" destination, but are there events for families for New Years?
@TripHacksDC2 жыл бұрын
Historically, Alexandria had a family friendly event (tickets required) but I am not sure if it is coming back this year. Generally DC does not have much for New Year's beyond open bars or fancy hotel parties.

Hey dude, are you going to be doing a video on public transportation while the yellow line is under construction? For example, I’ll be going to mt Vernon from DC while the line is down and I think I’ve figured it out finally, but could definitely help others who may be stuck!

Outdoors not really. Indoors some people still do.

Why doesn't the Park Service clean the monuments? The marble at the Lincoln Memorial looks discolors, and there seems to be debris accumulating at the wall bases. In Asia, the monuments are kept clean and bright.

Hi thanks for the video. Big help for my upcoming trip to the city. I am surprised how many ppl are out at monuments at midnight; more than I expected. What are the transportation options at that hour? I see scooters and bicycles. What else?
@Crazygirl20552 жыл бұрын
Well it depends. If it is during the weekend the metro closes at 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. And at 12am during Monday through Thursday. And of course there is always Uber, the rented bicycles and scooters.

Hi Rob! I am planning a spring break trip to DC for my family and binging your channel. Your videos are super helpful, even for someone who has been to DC twice before. Wondering if you have any thoughts about one thing: My 9 year-old wants to see the monuments at night. We will definitely be seeing them all by day as well, but I am worried about navigating amongst the school groups at night and also about how long it will take to see the monuments all over again after dark, especially since we have a 3 year-old who will probably turn tired/cranky an hour into the attempt. Thinking about trying to find an evening river cruise to see them from a distance instead. Good idea? Terrible idea? Would it be better to just stick with the big three monuments and blitz them on foot? Thanks again for all the great videos!
@TripHacksDC2 жыл бұрын
My advice is: see the monuments on a guided tour whenever you can fit it into your schedule and come back and see these three after dark. You can't see the monuments from a river cruise (except for the back of two of them) so I don't recommend that for the purpose of seeing monuments.
