Gives you an idea of the immense responsibilities for Wayne to both act in and direct this film. Thanks for sharing!

I've always got time for a Richard Widmark movie. He's a class act!

He was a pivotal role in the Alamo, as he was in many movies

Great selection of photos! I noticed two of ‘em are from “The Undefeated” (5:43) and “The Fighting Kentuckian” (7:55) but they’re still great shots.

Nice video. However, some images are flip-flopped and others are from Wayne films not named "The Alamo." One image is from The Last Command.

Nice selection of images and stills. I know you know Wayne went broke making this film but did you know he actually wanted to make a film about the Alamo in early 1950's? He pitched the concept to Republic Pictures and they went with it. However, they cast Sterling Hayden in the role of Jim Bowie instead of Wayne. That movie was 1955's 'The Last Command'. Supposedly this is one of the main reasons Wayne left Republic and signed with United Artist in 1956.

Yes, Alamo was a passion project for him.

In the 1960 film, Wayne of course plays Davy Crockett. The Jim Bowie role went to Richard Widmark. Both very convincing!
