Done the fan dance myself recently. Found the intial assent to be very physically challenging. The worst part for me was on the way back and the numerous false peaks of jacobs ladder. Litteraly never knew when i was going to make it to the top. As id taken so long i was one of the last ones in my group of friends to make it to the top. The lead group had allready head off. Disappointed with myself i decided to thrown caution to the wind and ran all the way back down the initial assent. Cand caught up with the lead group. Running the downhills and the flats is difficult but a good idea if you want to pickup time. Then again i only had 10kg on my back.

Hey James! I'm with you, I was surprised at the start onlybbecause after watching numerous YT vids the steepness never actually comes across well on film. And yes Jacobs Ladder, very tough! Thanks for taking the time to watch and for leaving a comment. Atb G🐾

In clear weather, its not a difficult course to navigate, but the thing that makes it a real challenge, is the very unpredictable weather you get in the Beacons. If the weather turns, you have nowhere to hide, and with the very undulating nature of the course, its very energy sapping. Its one of my favorite fell running training courses, as its mostly on good grass, with some superb climbs to make it interesting
@racingspoon Жыл бұрын
True enough…lots of folks just up there on a summers day and it’s really a walk in the park then. In the winter it really is a different beast and you can be found out easily. It can be like three seasons in one day and the weather at the bottom bears no relation to what it’s like nearer the top. Got stuck in a white out at the bottom of the Corn Du scramble a few years and even though know it like back of hand up there still squeaky bum time for sure.

First time was 48 years ago ! Done ti many times .From hot summer days (Evil) but you only need to carry water .To complete ugly weather where its dangerous to try and stand on the top and even the inside of your soul is soaking wet ! .. But I always think so many "day trippers" could really be in trouble when you see them in UGG boots and Sports direct finest on bad days
@bravogolfoscar Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to watch and for commenting, it really appreciated. It was a wet day when I took part in the event, not cold just wet. Yes I agree people think that because there is a path its gentle stroll to the top. In bad weather it is very easy to get turned around and lost. Ben Nevis is a prime example, could be glorious sunshine in the valley and a complete white out at the summit with a foot of snow.

Thanks for your video. I did my recce a few weeks ago for the AEE FD 2nd July , like you it taught me a lot , without it i think it would have been a shocker ! Give Neil a big pat on the back, replacement hip ….👏. The day I did it was hot and it taught me that the AEE requirement for a minimum of 4 litres of water is there for a reason . Good luck in June Gareth.

Really enjoyed the video! Looks like you ascended corn du, very steep that bit. The FD cuts right along a sheep track further down across the face of corn du. Then hang a sharp left (joins the granny track from pont at daf car park) upwards along the side of cord du and then up to PyF. Then same on the way back to the red phone box. I hope you found my comment useful more than an annoyance. 👍

Hi Grizzly. I have just stumbled on your videos so I hit the subscribe button instantly. firstly I must say what a great recce you done with Neil . Hope he has recovered . I went up there in August 2020 and I could not see jack Sxxx. Like Neil, I had a hip resurfacing 13 years ago and to cap it I had a torn cartilage so you can imagine my legs were to weak to cope with the demands. Anyway cut a long story short . Got to top of pen y van wind ,rain, fog. Descended down Jacobs ladder but I quickly turned back up otherwise I knew would have been in trouble. Back in training for leg strength and in June 2023 going to complete it at the age of 59. Keep up the great vids. How did you get on in June ?

Hi Johnny, thanks for taking the time to watch, subscribe and comment! The weather on the day of the event was pretty grim, similar to the day you went I imagine? Only this time I'm doing the Fan Dance Trinity, Saturday, Saturday night and then Sunday morning, so three tines!
