Great and very helpful. Based on the info in this video I have saved nearly £40 on parts and up to £100 engineer time. My oven was tripping the very sensitive consumer board and after testing the earth connection, I found my element was faulty and Ive ordered a new elemental unit. Thanks

Informative video although annoying meter screen glare as commented. Slight ohms law error. Higher resistance on last element will result in lower current and hence LOWER power. i.e. Less wattage as you then stated. Agree with other comments on using insulation tester, but multimeter will often give a good first indication of an earth fault if you don't have an insulation tester. I didn't know what OL meant either but I know now thanks to a couple of useful comments!

Would an element where there’s no OL between the terminal and earth trip the RCD?

after removing my cooker element i dropped the spade connector wires down the back so had to remove the back of oven to retrieve them but now i dont know which way round they go. my cooker is a zanussi and the element ony has 2 terminals and i thing the main screwing in bracket acts as teh earth. can the spade terninals be put on either way round please.

I'd strongly suggest using an insulation tester. Measuring the resistance between live/neutral and earth using a multimeter will not give an accurate test result. If you stressed that element with an insulation resistance test at 500 volts you'd find that the reading you saw at 18Mohm probably drop below the 2 Mohm minimum required for safety.

Very good and helpful. One criticism is the multimeter screen is unreadable due to the glare from the lights.

I've replaced my fan. no heat. so replaced my element replaced still no heat or light. so I'm thinking thermostat on the dial.
