OOOOHHHH SNAAP! Great to see you guys back!! Got nostalgic over Star Wars the other days and watching the old Council Forcecast videos revitatlised my excitement for the EU - so I've started reading up on material that I've put off for years. Great to see everyone back at it! Also I have no right being up at the hours I am, but I'm in the UK too and you shouldn't be up at the times you uploaded this lol.

Damn, I missed these discussions :) When I first watched this episode, one of my friends did not catch it and when I told him everything that happened he almost did not believe that it all went down in one episode, it's so dense every scene has so much going on. "The Avatar and the Fire Lord" is actually during the Summer Solstice, so half a year after first meeting Roku. Honestly it might be the most appropriate time to connect with Roku giving that it's the day of the year where the sun is the strongest and he was a fire-themed avatar. The most random time he pops up is probably when be bullies Jeong-Jeong, even though Jeong-Jeong had a point. I might just be a Azula apologist, but I think from her perspective it's pretty easy to rationalize her doing as just setting up a precaution in case Zuko's lie did happen to be important. In that case he would have been the aggressor and the fallout just retaliation, since he lied first. Not to say that Azula would not have lied otherwise, but hey.

I know I said this before in the past, but I'm grateful for discovering your guys' channel years ago. Definitely was a big part of my development in many ways as a teenager. Don't sweat the conflicting schedule thing, I get it too since I work nights. That said, I remember that when this episode came out, I kinda naively thought that Aang would fight the Firelord immediately. I was a kid, of course. Didn't know about structures of storytelling and whatnot. A part of me likes to think that the gang was planning on removing the flag in Aang's room, but they kinda forgot.

Evan: "It only took 4 years and 2 seasons but Im finally participating in an Avatar review." Didn't it only take Evan 6 months? Either way, great way to open an analysis of a great opening episode. Small plot point concerning the Earth King, wouldn't it be easy to spot him due to his pet bear? Apparently normal bears are rare in Avatar given the teams original reaction to the King having a normal bear. Then again the Fire Nation probably didn't consider him a threat. Which nearly bit Zuko in the ass. On an unrelated note, has anyone on the podcast watch Star Wars Visions? I know Evan and Reti have watched some anime.

It is really fun to think about how completely useless Ozai is as a Military leader? like Omashu falls, mostly I think cause Bumi knew the comet was coming so was doing a thing to get his city out of the war just in case. and then Long Feng I dunno simped for his 14 year old daughter. he did NOTHING. love the idea that all the military guys that know what they were doing HATED Ozai cause he is burn hope to the ground type. like no we want good farm land and towns to tax and stuff what are you doing.
