Absolutely LOVE the idea of the next Avatar being on the "wrong side" initially. It's almost akin to what would've happened to Roku had he not gone off on his decade-long journey to master the elements and Sozin had gotten to him.
@outofideas428 ай бұрын
This seems the natural season 2 from this concept - Roku. Book 1 sang, book 2 Roku. Roku having experienced the same problem could create the feeling of an old sage with the secret sauce to this avatars problems, to then be rejected as Roku knows he failed his attempt and has nothing valuable to offer, but by way of the lessons learned from sang and Korea in a season 1, this avatar persists on Roku and preventing another 100 year war could be a redemption for Roku as well as gains for the avatars, like maybe not necessarily redeeming but saving the soul of the earth kingdom loyalist friend in some way. Like imagine he reaches out to Roku on how to stop his friend from becoming a monster and Roku, initially sore and hardened, says 'kill him.' Or words to that effect. The kindness learned from aang saves the main character and Roku.

It'd also would happen based on raava saying that no matter if vaatu or raava were destroyed, they'd grow in each other during the 10,000 years they were gone. That'd be pretty far in the future, but eventually the avatar would start becoming darker and they'd have to tackle that in some way.

I mean, I also like this idea and even had a similar one (even if mine is way more convoluted and with many turns in alliances and such). But the problem I have with how people usually do this idea (like in She-Ra or Nimona and such) is that they realize it at the very beginning (and we as the audience kinda know even bf that) that they are on the wrong side and I think it would be miles more interesting to have at least a season of the audience rooting for the protagonist bf realising they are on the wrong side, bc now you wouldnt be watching on the outside as someone deconstructs all they were taught, but you start to question yourself you might've been taught that may actually be actively harming other people.

I want to see the story of Avatar Kuruk. Yangchan created an era of peace, that he originally dreamed of building upon her work, but her failure as bridge between the two worlds, made him soon realise dark spirits were on the verge of crossing over from the Spirit World and he had to spend his life fighting them Killing dark spirits hurt him physically and spiritually, but he kept going so no one else did, he spent so much time in the Spirit World, he neglected the Physical World and was actually hated, because people only saw him living a self-indulgent lifestyle, which was his only way of coping with his hardships, that only his spiritual mentor, Nyahitha knew about. His story is so interesting, and I want more people to know him.
@thedovehandsoap16008 ай бұрын
THIS!!! His story (or the little we got to see of it) was so interesting, and I think his ideals would be a great contrast to his successors- with the story being more intimate and revolving around the protection of his loved ones, rather than the big picture, political approach. I love your idea about the major conflict being about the spirit world- there is so much more to uncover there and he could also meet various allies in the spirit world that help him against Koh, and can be the major contributors to his growth and training- as the wall between the two world has been pretty much broken. I would love to see this done- heck I'll do it myself one day 😂🤩

My problem with this is that I don’t think there is much more to tell that would be truly satisfying. We know his story pretty well from how it impacts Kyoshi, and his appearances as a spirit guide. Do we need to see him battle dark spirits? Would it show us anything meaningful? Would it truly be satisfying to any degree? This is one of those instances where our own imagination for what could happen is so varied that any one clear answer can only be disappointing at best, or even outright upsetting at worst.

i feel like one way to make this feel modern without technological advancements would be to blur the lines more between the distinct nations. migration and mingling across cultures feels like the natural progression after korra and i think that this pitch relies too much on the regions still being largely represented by one single element. it would be cool to see an antagonist that isn’t just one elemental nation, but a new group that blends multiple bending types somewhat like the red lotuses but on a much larger scale
@acsound8 ай бұрын
The White Lotus could be a recurring team of antagonists pursuing our MC Tai to *kill* him (b/c he's a living WMD). A waterbender who knows bloodbending, an earthbender from Omashu (its own country that's breaking away from the Earth Kingdom -- and an HQ for the freedom fighters after Republic City fell) who was part of the freedom fighters group (a descendant/relative of Bumi, or he could be unrelated to King Bumi, but a namesake), a lightning-adept firebender (Azula's grandson -- named after Zuko, or maybe named Ozai!), an airbender who -- like Zaheer -- has mastered flight, and a normal/non-bender who compensates w/Republic City tech to replicate the tech: along w/mastery of multiple weapons (his name will be "LInk" or "Rinku"). They would've secretly tried to "do something" about the Earth Kingdom's shenanigans, but at this point, they're almost as bad as the Dai Li.

i don’t like the idea of korras efforts immediately getting undone. i get the theme of complacency but it’s like if the fire nation immediately came back after aang defeated it. there’s a cycle of correcting the previous avatars mistakes that come from something they miss while fixing the previous avatars. roku to aang, aang to korra. korra made a huge effort to watch the government throughout her series, it was one of her main focuses, it wasn’t something she missed. and it makes no sense that she would not pay attention to the radicalization of the earth citizens right after. the idea of erasing history COULD play perfectly into the cycle since korra struggled with traditions or what the avatar was “supposed” to be, and obviously had the connection to avatar history severed) its a really cool idea but i wish it was done with a different nation since earth facism was one of korras direct concerns. maybe doing it through a cross-nation religious aspect of rewriting history rather than nationalism like kuvira again? she never dug into the white lotus and their religious beliefs, and how huge it was it would be a fantastic place to start imo explicitly visiting aangs locations is also retreading in a way i don’t like. if they focused on unknown parts of his life or, even better, unknown avatars i’d love that. i usually love your pitches but i really didn’t like this one.

I'm sure he'll get to it in the next video but yeah. Was kinda exPecting him to address how the fusion of The spirit world with the waking world sidestepped the HC that the avatar world would just advance faster but generally parallel hours and be modern becoming even more of a fantasy world then the original series but with a bit of urban fantasy so there's still some familiar modern elements but the evolution of technology in stuff had diverged incredibly from anything we knew Maybe that's what he was getting at once Tai left ba sing se when he sees the world and how different it is from what he was taught A bit of Ludo narrative dissonance with how impressive the regime is that like Tai AND the new earth king we assumed we knew more about th avatar world based on what we were taught, only to have the rug Pulled to show how alien the worlds become. Also cliche but yeah, expected a lot of the conflict to be driven regaining the Past avatars and dealing with all the crazy shit The spirits have gotten up to. Instead of aang, or maybe even Korra, what if th the only fragmented avatar he could regularly get access to was some Lame unassuming fucking nobody airbrnding avatar who's also been reverted to a kid with a mostly hazy memory? Or some version of raava herself considering how different she'd be now. I just never cared for her +she's dead. I think it could work if her personality was more like Karen from SpongeBob or master shi fu I am on the trope of the master who claims they know more than they do and are just utterly disappointing by their people and learning about themselves and growing together as they teach them Like troyoboyo I'm taking things HARD from the stuff I'm obsessed with in stars and time, naruto, hxh etc It just sounds fun to imagine the avatars best friend this time around being their own Past life; learning more about their new world and theirselves to metaphorically and literally come together to save it again by picking up the pieces If it IS just some random avatar that'd be more ground try something new while still being a little familiar due to the only '''mentor'' having huge identity and memory issues and overall being initially to underdeveloped to train tai properly .

@@theradionicrevival8068 I'm loving these ideas and this might be pushing it but what if the next avatar had a direct lineage to a previous avatar. Then that ancestor becomes their best friend character. Feels like a stretch tho.

It would be very interesting if alongside kai’s journey, kenshi also makes his way up the ranks up to being like a general for the king, so that they have similar ‘rank’ to their peers so to speak. And that the further up the ranks he goes, the more and more clear just how far gone he really has gotten. I could see one of the final battles of the whole show, ideally at the end of a supposed season 3, there is one final showdown between the two. Could be also interesting if at certain points throughout the show, probably in the first season, they actually get the opportunity to catch up, and for a moment everything was stripped away and they got the opportunity to be true best friends again, and really letting the audience most importantly see how much chemistry and care they had for each other, and can make the audience feel kenshi’s path to darkness hit *us* as much as it’s supposed to be hitting kai

@@Glucenaphene Taking this idea further, maybe Kenshi takes out the Earth King and becomes the new Big Bad. It'd show how he went from a victim of the fascistic war machine to the one at its helm. All the while, Tai's travels have him to meet people from other nations, having his mind be free of the Earth Kingdom's propaganda. The final battle could encompass the show's themes by having Tai beat Kenshi with other elements, proving how broadening your worldview is essential.

Your idea with Tai really sounds like the setup for the reboot of _She-Ra and the Princesses of Power._ The whole story starts off with her being on the wrong side. So that's fun. Things I would love to see the Avatar franchise do: - Like how Toph was a blind girl who could see with earthbending, I would love to see a deaf airbender character who can still hear because he can detect the minute changes in air pressure that sound waves make. - Maybe this new Earth avatar can reconnect to the Avatars before Korra - Pro-bending with air added to the sport (Maybe using some type of non-toxic yellow gas so people can see it. Maybe with a yellow powder. Like what they use for Holy in India.) - An anthology series about the previous avatars. What was the second Avatar like because it's not like Wan knew he was going to reincarnate. The second Avatar would have no idea what's going on. I also once saw someone suggest that we see an Avatar who has an interest in medicine fight a plague. - A cyberpunk setting but not necessarily dystopian cyberpunk, - More exploration of the original air nomads because it still feels like we don't know a lot about them. - Maybe an Iroh prequel. If not an Iroh prequel then I would like to meet Iroh's wife and Lu Ten. - An avatar actually learn they were the Avatar the traditional way. They make it seem like learning at 16 is the norm but we've only ever seen Roku actually learn the intended way. - An air Avatar whose animal guide is not a sky bison. I feel like that's the obvious assumption because every airbender has a sky bison. I've always had a headcanon that Yangchen's animal guide was one or both of her lemurs but her animal guide has never been confirmed.

I think the intro for the pilot would be really interesting if we see all the previous Avatars representing their element in the intro except for Earth, who is hidden in shadow. And then we learn the Earth Nation version of events. The first opening shot would be a class of Earthbender's training to join the Dai Li - focusing on Tai and Kenshi in such a way that we can't tell which of them is the focus, which of them is the avatar. We can see that Kenshi is a prodigy and he's taken away for the teacher to talk to in order to join the Dai Li. This should really mirror Aang's Avatar test as much as possible. With one major difference - Tai is his biggest hype man. We see some more of their relationship - Kenshi protects Tai and Tai supports his ambitions and patches him up when he gets hurt. Both of them can be seen helping people (for example help someone up after tripping on the gutter, stop a theif, help old ladies cross the road). Tai usually takes the initiative in these acts. Another thing I think should be a focus is Tai learning the history of the other Avatars - reconnecting with each of them one by one, an effort which will take his whole life to complete. Each season should be connecting with a different Avatar with the connection to Korra being the exception as it was triggered by Bolin in the pilot.

I like a lot of those ideas but I'm not a fan for the same reasons I wasn't a fan of Legend of Genji : it just wants to be a sequel to the Legend of Korra, when it should be like a next generation sequel for the Avatar. That means we don't have to follow the same characters as before. In LoK there was no need for the police chief and half of the cast to be Beifongs. Korra didn't need to personally know Katara, Toph, Zuko and two different Iroh's. Only Aang and Tenzin were crucial to the show, because they're part of what makes the world and the Avatar move forward. That's what a next generation sequel should be

I agree. I feel like Legend of Korra definitely needed to tone down the amount that Aang's Gang and their descendants played a role with Korra. There should have been a greater focus on her own team and their lives. I think it would be okay if we still saw the gaang and descendants, have some attempt to meet and support her, but it should be awkward and distant because Korra is not personally related to any of them. Korra's team should've had much more time given to them.

@@maviebaby I know you're right about that but at some point it becomes too much, like it bothers me how the police chief had to be Toph's daughter for no reason other than because we know Toph. General Iroh also came like a hair in the soup. I guess it does make sense that Katara would be important in the water tribe since that's what she fought for, and I like that Toph is just the exact same when she was a kid, which seems perfectly in character. But to be fair, she and Zuko are still there just for no reason so idk

@@MILOPETIT like in Aang's team the only character who was directly related to the previous avatar was Zuko (Through his bloodline). Yes, Aang was in an iceberg for 100 years, which would explain the lack of continuity from Roku's team. Maybe if the creators came out and established that every new avatar has direct support from their previous team, I would find it more believable. But since that hasn't happened I just find that the massive inclusion of the Gang and descendants in Korra's story is nostalgia baiting.

I want the next Avatar to be the kid of someone whose life was RUINED by the last Avatar. So when he learns he's the Avatar is just filled with self hatred and is hated by his family. They gotta cover ground Aang and Korra haven't covered. We saw Aang, the child of a loving environment, Korra with a sheltered one, now they should do an Avatar with an abusive one. Imagine a scene where this new Avatar talks to Korra in the Spirit world and verbally bashes her for destroying his family. We've seen this happen with Yangchen and Kuruk before, but thats was more what YC DIDNT do that let to unforseen consequences later on. Im thinking Korra literally locked up generations of the new Avatars family, a much more intimate action taken by his past life directly hurting him in the present.

I have been keeping this locked up in my head for a while, my proposal for the new avatar series (loosely inspired by Legend of Genji), this is just gonna be between Korra and the New avatar - Tonzi. In 176 AG, with all of the earth kingdom states elected their governors, the first earth president, Rilon, is elected. In 179 AG, Bolin marries Opal. Later in the year, Zuko dies. In 180 AG, Iroh’s younger sister, Ursa II becomes firelord and Iroh retires along with his mother. In 181 AG, This step forward causes a conflict. The Omashu Schism - dividing the city on whether they want a monarch or not. The Queen of Omashu decides to secede the state from the Earth Federation. The misty palms Oasis, now under the name Si Wong City after a population boom, also wants to leave the federation, and start a new Southern Earth Kingdom. Terra Beifong is also born to Bolin and Opal Beifong. In 183 AG, Ikki and Karo get married. Tariq is born to Varrick and Zhu Li By 184 AG, a new president is elected. Being half Si Wong, he is divided on whether to indulge in the states’ desires. He eventually decides to keep Si Wong as part of the Federation and orders Korra to take back Omashu by force. She doesn’t listen to him and instead negotiates with the queen, allowing her to become Governor in the new City. People of the Si Wong State start rebelling, wanting to be free from the Earth Kingdom, this leads to many attacks in Republic City and Ba Sing Se. Korra battles with the Si Wong Governor, who has been funding the rebellions. In 185 AG, Jinora and Kai get married In 186 AG, Alo Beifong is born to Bolin and Opal. Nami is born to Jinora and Kai In 187 AG, Asami Sato and Korra get married By 188 AG, there is an overwhelming wish to be seperated in the South Earth Federation. The Si Wong and Omashu governor’s want to step in and create a petition, they get over 10,000 signatures and present it to the new Earth President, Hanjin. However Hanjin is a man with an unchanging attitude and over the next few days, the governors who presented the petition fall sick and eventually die. Autopsy reveals that they were poisoned but no-one questions the president. This only causes more outrage and yet another uprising of people from Si Wong and Omashu. In 192 AG, Hanjin is elected and Kalan Beifong is born to Bolin and Opal. In 194 AG, Korra goes to deal with an alleged Si Wong bombing in Republic City. When Bolin, Mako and Asami finally get to her, she is found dead, killed from a poisonous blade to the neck. After Korra’s death, Asami hands future industries over to her cousin, Nao Toki, then moving to the republic city suburbs. Mako becomes chief of police after Lin’s retirement and death. And Bolin finally stays in Zaofu to care for his kids. Kyo is born to Jinora and Kai. Tonzi is born, the new avatar in the cycle. In 195 AG, Gyatso II is born to Ikki and Karo, not long after, Katara passes away in her sleep. In 196 AG, Hanjin is re-elected once again, despite what many would think after his low popularity. Asami goes on a Journey of enlightenment In 200 AG, a group of Firebender supremacists attack Ba Sing Se, without Korra to protect the city, many lives are lost. Afterwards, Hanjin reinstates the Dai Li alongside the Earth Federation Police to keep the city safe. He steps down and become Minister of the Dai Li. With Ba Sing Se much safer, Tonzi and his mother move to the city In 202 AG, Opal becomes the Governor of Zaofu.

I like your pitch. And have a few additional ideas 1) Tai’s older brother was best friends with Kenshi. When Tai’s older brother passed in service to the earth kingdom Kenshi started to take on some of his role acting in many ways as an older sibling to Tai. 2) the earth kingdom should be actively trying to suppress the idea that someone can bend multiple elements. The existence of the “avatar” is a rumor in the younger generations and can get you imprisoned, brainwashed, or killed. This could lead to a scene when Tai asks Kenshi while they are walking on the street what an avatar is. Kenshi pulls him down an alley and pins him to a wall asking him where he heard that and eventually telling him what it is. 3) book one should be Korra and your prologue should be expanded to a season. In this book. Rather than fire which would be the usual order of elements for Tai to learn, he starts with water. Because his connection to past avatar’s is cut off, his bending of air and fire is too. He will have to reconnect with the past lives in order to learn the elements. We can have him learn that he is the avatar in much the same way, with the boys throwing a pot of boiling water for tea at him and having him freeze it. He runs home to his mother and tells her, she tries to tell him to hide it and asks who saw when a knock comes at the door and he is taken away. He proudly goes to serve the earth kingdom and follow in the footsteps of his brother and Kenshi. his mother cries because she knows that his power will be used for cruel purposes and without regard for his well-being Because he needs to learn from past lives, you could have him training in the spirit world (where he can’t bend) and struggle with converting the skills that past lives teach him there into their real world counterparts where he is actually bending. Finally you could have Tai sees his parents and realizes that they have been brainwashed to the point that they no longer recognize him. He goes into the avatar state and escapes the earth kingdom. As he runs away in anger, this is when he begins to see the war from the other side and realizes the atrocities that he has been committing

I think the direction of the genre would work best as being post-apocalyptic. We already saw some of that with the destruction the spirit world brought upon republic city, but having the earth avatar as a sandbender scavenger in a wasteland with remnants of a technological era and little rusted-up gadgets here and there is something that's always made sense to me as who the next avatar should be. Korra's journey was heavy with failures. Personally I like the idea of Korra even dying at about age 30, bringing hopelessness alongside greater destruction upon the land, but it could be presented at first in a mysterious way. The Earth Avatar might find Bolin still alive in his late 40s leaving the viewers to question how Korra died young, and with the connection of the past avatars being severed, our protagonist would be very much left to pick up the pieces. I imagine there would be vast empty reaches of the world, and the spirit world's presence on the material world would be even more polarized than seen in Korra. The Earth Avatar would have to scavenge spiritual relics from these secluded areas and find those people few and far between with knowledge of the past avatars to reconnect with them and learn bending, all while dealing with desperate governments on the brink of collapse. Stories like The Last of Us show great political storytelling potential in a post-apocalyptic world, and this would be a great next step to deal with things like anarchy and scarce resources. In another aspect, a post-apocalyptic world with some remnant fantasy tech would be treading the genre of the original pitch of the AtLA show, where Momo was a robot companion.

I like this setting much more, including Korra dying young. Maybe have the world implied to have reached the 1970s or 80s tech level? Pre internet, just a handful of computers to records of the past. Almost like Fallout 1 (very different from the modern games)
@tuxxle88308 ай бұрын
@@kingofhearts3185 I agree for the most part, but I think fantasy settings like this weren't every really meant to progress towards modern technologies the same way our earth has. Since Korra has steampunk technology to a further extension than we ever had in the 1920s, I imagine another sci-fi genre could minorly bud up afterward like cyberpunk, though of course the post-apocalyptic setting would cut that progression short. Avatar could even take some sci-fi elements to make its own technology system, spirit-punk as season 4 of LoK hinted at. Many, myself included, weren't huge on that plotline, but there could be a right way to execute it or find another way this unique world would create a unique technology progression different from Earth's.

Will there be a spirits for all the celestial bodies? I think some post apocalyptic element can help ground the series to its roots. I mean look at the hundreds of avatars before Aang and Korra who's technology and culture all stayed relatively the same. Technology advanced super rapidly thanks to minds like Sokka and the Machinist in the last 100 years. Who were building in response to war.

We got Korra and it was a female character which I did like, but another idea I had was what if there were 2 avatars Similar to your pitch on the earth kingdom, actually almost exactly like it, we meet a young character who we follow for the first bit of the intro, he is a good kid, naturally like an avatar should be, but later we’re introduced to a character who the earth kingdom has deemed “the avatar” they bend all four elements, they wear a mask, and they are the main source of propaganda Later it’s revealed that the main character is able to bend another element, thus the earth kingdom tries to capture him, upon escape and seeking refuge we basically get to see two examples of how just the title of avatar brings both dismay with this false avatar, but also hope with the true avatar. Originally I do think my idea was to have them be twins, separated at birth and share the avatar trait, obviously this was before Korra and Kavera was revealed so there being two made a little more sense

*My Avatar Sequel Idea, Avatar Comet Fall* The basic idea is 30 years after the end of Korra Sozin's Comet comes back around again, but there's a major problem it's not just passing by this time. The comet's on a collision course with the earth(?) be it natural cosmic physics, Aangs battle with the Fire Lord, or Spirit shenanigans Sozin's Comet is a massive threat. One Korra dies in the process of dealing with, exerting all her power and life force to slow it down to the point where it won't wipe out all life on the planet. The comet still does catastrophic world altering damage but people and animals still cling to life barely but all civilization is destroyed. Essentially this is a post-apocalyptic story. When Korra dies the new Avatar is born to the Sand Bender tribes of the Earth Kingdom. Being hardy nomadic peoples already used to hardship of the desert the Sand Benders thrive in this new world quickly becoming one of the most numerously populated peoples of the post comet fall former Earth Kingdom. This new Avatar named Ka-Shun or just Shun for short grew up as a nomadic bandit raiding small Earth Kingdom survivor villages for food and supplies. It wasn't until he was 16+ that he even realized he was the avatar when an earth bender from a village his tribe was raiding hit him in the head with a large rock nearly killing him and activating the Avatar state. More importantly he'd get chewed out by Korra for being a bandit, she'd tell him his responsibilities for being Avatar and to essentially get his act together. Shun would wake up at his tribe's camp suddenly conflicted, on one hand he's been in a tribe of bandits his whole life on the other hand he's the avatar and has a past life in his head constantly nagging him for all the bad things him and his people have done. Eventually Shun would be forced from his village ((say in the Avatar state he took the other raiders from his tribe and protected the village but someone comes back and says what happened.)) The bulk of the story would revolve around 3 points: 1. Restoring the connection with old Avatars before Korra 2. Mastering the elements in an actually realistic time frame ((i.e. more than a few months like Aang or practically never earning them to begin with like Korra)) 3. Rebuilding the shattered world 4. Shun learning to be a good person and making exotic friends. Restoring the old Avatar's connection Shun could use them and their knowledge of history to rebuild the world and help learn the elements from potentially fractured sources. Along the way Shun would learn empathy and other virtues that escaped him in his life as a bandit along the way making friends and companions. Ideally from the more exotic cultures like a Swamp Tribe water bender ((who maybe become the dominant water benders after the comet fall caused the poles to melt)), a Fire Warrior fire bender, one of Aang's descendants ((being the only air benders)), and you could play with the idea of Shun having a sibling or maybe even a twin that travels with him. ((A twin to the Avatar has a lot of potential imo)). Traveling around in say a huge Mad Max esq vehicle which because of the comet fall are once again super rare. Along their travels they have to deal with bandits, warlords, and spirits driven mad by the destruction of the comet fall ((like Hei Bai)) Ideally there'd also be a retconn to Wang and Raava because they're both super dumb imo. Like say Wang is just a liar and Raava is actually part of a much greater cosmic "divine" force like a Brahma, Tengri, or Tian equivalent. I'll admit I didn't actually like Korra and didn't get passed the first season so this is kinda a middle finger to it and favoring the feeling of the Last Airbender.

I LOVE THIS IDEA! my only problem being that Tai is alone on this whole journey other than his avatar companions. I can clearly see how hard it would be to write another gaang because of how perfect the last gaang was and i do love the idea of a fractured aang/ korra spirit that are reverted to the younger selves and help him learn the element and have a realization that war is always going to repeat itself but again i just wouldn’t want to see him alone a lot of the joy i had from the show was the moments with the gaang just being a family having sister and brother arguments

I still like the show overall though, just not nearly as rewatchable.

This might be a dumb idea but I think it would be cool if each episode related to a past avatar. Like maybe Tai has to save a village where one of the past avatars grew up and throughout the episode he learns more about that avatar. At the end of the episode he regains that link to the avatar and is able to talk to them and the next episode would do something similar. It would probably get repetitive but I think it could be an interesting idea to have a whole series focused on an avatar trying to reconnect with their past lives after it was severed in Korra.
@kingofhearts31858 ай бұрын
Maybe not every episode, but that would be a good idea. I think the key is a variety of both the path connections and the modern circumstances so that they wouldn't feel similar.
@AmbrGlw8 ай бұрын
To help fill the hole left by the absence of a Gaang, you could have a lot more characters like the Kyoshi warriors, that have some relevance later on and during climactic moments. In other words, you could have the locals of any given place help tell the story of the areas that the past avatars bring Tai to. One could imagine a reoccurring plot of: go to area of importance, the area/people/spirits here are different, the past avatar and Tai ponder on the differecnes and ethics and etc, and Kenshi/other Earth Kingdom representative/ruffians complicate things at some point during all this. Even with this (VERY) rough draft of episode structure, there's so much room to mess with each variable, to the point that you could easily get an entire season of character moments out of that.

And a cool thing you could do with Kenshi is make it so that he continually becomes scarred hurt and dismembered throughout the seasons. Requiring him to use psychic metal bending on Prosthetics to be able to move. Almost like a Darth Vader-esque arc. On top of that you have it end off with Tai reaching out to save his former friend, for a moment you think he's going to reach out with his remaining hand, but instead he makes one last attempt to kill Tai, a decision that results in him losing his grip and falling to his certain demise. Being an isolated individual, I think it’s even more important for Tai to get to know people close to his age who haven’t been brainwashed & to expand his worldview. I notice that each Team Avatar (in the animated shows) always involves a pair of siblings, so it would be cool if that was maintained. Also I cannot help but think Tai is gay at this point (sorry it could totally just be a platonic relationship). Maybe make him bi? I really don’t know what takes you’d want to go with this, i.e express any sexuality or not but seeing as to how the show’s about coming of age, that topic would be inevitable. Adding romance to stories (in the right amounts) always gets people more invested imo lol. Anyway just my thoughts!

One way you could revert the technological progress of the setting would be by setting it in a world taken over by spirits. Maybe they got tired of rampant industrialization and decided to push back until the balance of the world was shifted into the spirits' favor.

This idea is brilliant! Personally though, the idea I am curious about is what if there was an evil Avatar. One who saw the violence of the Spirit World from the after math of Korra and realized that the world should be ruled not by preexisting immortal beings, but humans. He could be so obsessed with this view that he becomes kind of a Fire Lord Ozai figure, but with more depth and meaning to his regime than just "oh our nation is better than yours". The Spirit World could be so disorganized by this that they create another Avatar in the Fire nation, while the Earth Avatar is still ALIVE. The show could then deal with an internal struggle with the Fire Avatar (his name could be like Gee-Yun) and find Spirits like Koh the face stealer who don't deserve to survive.

I mean in that case you would need Vaatu but it doesn't have the elements tongive oike Raava does.

this is kinda like the plot to She Rah and the Princesses of Power; where the main character starts off on the wrong side but it seems more fleshed out. I love avatar and I think this is a great pilot

It feels like the avatar world would branch off mechanically. In our history, computers and software shaped our digital reality, going back almost 100 years, but the world of avatar doesn’t need that. Bending is a method of war, so there is less need for artillery. Meaning computers are less essential. I think it’s a natural step for the world to explore a more mechanical based system, akin closer to steampunk, than our modern digital world.

i appreciate the vision and you are very right about battling fascism being a never-ending struggle, but this pitch still feels far too tied to the original IPs. Not only does it recycle the plot of the original, it also loosens a plot thread somewhat resolved in Korra (the earth kingdom monarchy). While i agree that solving a problem once doesnt mean it'll come back again, this is a tv show and the most important thing for it to do is to keep fresh. I actually would love to see the earth kingdom democracy face more problems and for that to be explored, just in a more unconventional and less good/bad way that asigns old roles to a new story. The earth kingdom is easily the largest nation. So much lore for just the earth kingdom could be added. As you said, part of what made Korra great was that it was so different from the original. The new avatar needs to be similarly different from both Aang and Korra. Aang and Korra are opposites in that Aang is peaceful, philosophical, and diplomatic while Korra is abrasive, impulsive, and thinks with her fists. They are similar in that they are both fun-loving, altruistic, friendly, and outgoing. The new avatar would have to be different in one of those ways significantly. Maybe an indecisive avatar who struggles with what could be the best choice for the problems he faces, or a more serious and reserved avatar. I understand why you'd suggest making the new avatar go it alone to standout from the previous series, but i think having a "team" with a compelling dynamic adds a lot to both shows. Even if the core 3 of the Krew (excluding Korra herself) did not live up to the GAang, Korra had a lot of de facto members that were great parts of her show- ie. Tenzin, Lin, and to a lesser extent, Varick. I would love for there to be a new team avatar, but one with dynamics and personalities differetn enough from the two predecessors. Additionally, a way to tone down the technological innovation in the series could be to have it focus more on the spirit/human conlict. Maybe there was temporary harmony under Korra but people's inclination towards progress could cause them to be odds with the spirits. An almost survival/apocalyptic storyline could be told with civilization losing out badly to spirit wilds. People are searching desperately for the avatar to help reverse this but he cant be found.

I don't love that all of Korra's efforts to improve the earth kingdom are undone by having them be the villain nation again. Korra ended with the Airbenders being global police/super heroes. That's a lot of unchecked power and a far cry from the pacifist nomads they used to be. Here's my brief pitch: Book 1 - Korra The avatar is unknown for the first few episodes. We see several characters it could be. Korra lost her connection to the previous avatars, so the old methods of finding the avatar with the toys and elements no longer works. We see the Airbenders have police control over the world. Korra's enemies were all special benders: metal, lava, blood, etc. So now the Airbenders round up anyone with exceptional powers and surveil them, allowing them only to bend for work, like in construction or power plants. The avatar is revealed to the audience by having Korra appear and speak to the character. She becomes a main character as the avatar's only mentor. The first season ends with the avatar deciding to bring balance by reestablishing the connection to the past avatars. Book 2 - Aang Traditionally the Airbenders had almost no hierarchy. They were equals. Tenzin meant well when he became the leader of the new air nation, but when he died, he left control to Kai. An old Airbending master Kai is the big bad. We learn that Jinora disappeared and Kai has since detached and learned to fly. He secretly went to Zahir to train. Meelo becomes the new avatar's Airbending teacher. The connection to Aang is reestablished. I don't know the rest yet but you catch my drift Book 3 is Roku. And the final Book 4 is Kiyoshi.

I had never heard of your channel before watching this video but I love your opinions and appreciation for the series overall. I’m glad you agree that to further advance technology in the world of Avatar could be a neat one-off gimmick but more likely would fall flat because it would get too far from the roots of the series that made it a phenomenon in the first place. I also love the Kiyoshi and Yangchen novels and wish more people would cover them on KZbin. They really do capture the spirit of ATLA best outside of the original series. If you started covering ATLA or even the novels I’d definitely subscribe and watch every upload.

I was thinking maybe don’t give kenshi his redemption until the very end. He’s been blinded by propaganda his whole life and has been loyal to the earth kingdom for his entire life. However maybe seeing his friend almost die or something at the end can be the last push he needs to choose his best friend(who’s tried multiple times to help him see the truth) over the earth king who’s blamed him for the loss of the avatar.

There’s a sort of secret recurring theme in the Avatar universe that you included in your pitch, whether intentionally or not. There always seems to be some issues or regrets from a previous avatar that the next avatar has to deal with. IIRC Yangchen’s actions left the spirits feeling ignored, which Kuruk had to deal with. Roku not preventing the war made it Aang’s first big Avatar duty. Aang’s absence contributing to the eradication of the air nation, which Korra then brought back. Korra losing connection with past spirits and Tai needing to reconnect with them is an awesome idea.

I like a lot of these ideas, Tai being on the “wrong side”, him not ever redeeming Kenshi, the whole history repeating itself, I really like him being a bad bender too and I think that should really persist throughout the series. I do think that it takes too much after the first two shows tho. I’m sure in this hypothetical series the work would be done to distinguish itself but I’m really not interested in seeing another superpower hell bent on power and ultimate rule, and I really am not interested in more of the corrupt earth kingdom. I think Korra shined in tackling politics in tandem with the large physical issues whereas ATLA wasn’t concerned much with the politics. That may sound crazy but think, the main thing about the show was to defeat Ozai and everything else was kinda thought to fall in place after the fact, the show itself didn’t talk about how to rebuild the nations, not until later in the comics and korra. Anyway, I think this story could be in a similar vein to korra, I haven’t given this as much thought as you but I have thoughts. I want this avatar to go more with the Aang route for his journey to avatar, I think the water tribe cooperating so closely with the lotus to find the avatar and then work to train and keep her safe worked really good for Korra, but I don’t want that to be the standard. This time maybe the earth kingdom has been steady and stable for years, it’s been prosperous and they’ve had a democratic system for years that’s worked well (maybe despite initial hiccups) for the time it’s been in place. Maybe because of that the President and the government has made no effort to look for the avatar, why would they? Their nation is more prosperous than it ever has been and pouring time and resources into finding a being that they imagine will be revealed eventually anyway. (Typical cheap/lazy politicians?) but I do like the idea that the other nations are kind of in dissarray. I didn’t really like that Korra felt so far removed from her own tribe. Everyone doesn’t have to be hyper attached but I mean Aang put in work for his people, he bled for his people, and Korra kinda just came from water benders, even being the chiefs daughter her water bending heritage never felt that important to her. Her first reaction was always fire (I like that detail but still) and even with the whole thing with Unolok it never felt important to her that it was a WATER TRIBE issue in addition to being a spiritual/avatar issue. Because of all that, I would have liked to the next avatar care more about his heritage and worry about his nation, but I’m also kind of over the Earth kingdom, we’ve seen too much of them in my opinion, so I think he can just be about his nation without the show being about his nation necessarily. Anyhow, I still want this new avatar to find out he is, in fact, the avatar by himself sort of, and I still like Bolin finding his way to him. I think this show can have the other nations be the main focuses, and they all have issues that avatar needs to sort out maybe with the water tribe Korra went full on with Asami and she never fostered her own child. Either asami had a surrogate or they adopted, leaving the southern water tribe with what they felt like with was an unworthy heir. It might be interesting to see maybe Korra’s child isn’t even a water bender, maybe the kid was adopted with different bending as their nature or the surrogate was from a different nation, maybe the surrogate was… MAKO??? lol idk, but Korra having a for bending kid would be really cool actually, either way the south tribe has no leader because they don’t respect Korra’s lineage for not being blood/even water tribe at all. So that could be something for the avatar to face, restabilizing the southern tribe because they’ve been a mess, maybe we even see the north acting as aggressors trying to take over and rule the two tribes as one and that could be the “history repeats itself” thing. I also think Korra’s grandchild should go with this avatar, and be the firbender of the group it could be similar to Katara and Aang/Zuko and Aang in that he had no way to practice firebending so they learn together when they eventually go to the fire nation. For the air nation I didn’t really like that Tenzin made them into a sort of roaming police force, it felt like a really BIG decision to change the ways and methods of a whole culture and tenzin just sort of did it casually, so maybe that’s spiraled, maybe the air nomads are similar now to the metal bending police force of Republic City there could be something there about managing the air benders who don’t care about the culture and the aspiring air nomads, figuring out how to reconcile the two. With Korra I think they were if the kind we saw too much of the fire nation the prior series so they over compensated and showed us nothing, and that really hurt, especially since with the two shows combined I still feel like we’ve seen the least of the fire nation so I think the fire nation should serve as home base for this show, either that or the water tribe(s) at least in the same way that the earth kingdom was for the prior shows, the way they all always went back there, that should be the fire nation or water tribe. Also I think the avatar’s love interest should be from the fire nation, and the non bender of the show, the water bender should be from the north tribe, and the air bender should be one of the non nomads who just is an air bender and the avatar teaches him what it means to be an air bender through Aang’s spirit when he gets it back, maybe he still doesn’t become a nomad by the end but he gains new appreciation for it. I, like everyone else, really liked the Red Lotus, so I think for the big bad(s) of the show they could replicate that to a larger scale. I think the Red Lotus this time around could be a large-scale Illuminati sort of thing. Especially since I’d like this to be a more politically charged thing similar to Korra and less like how ATLA was. So maybe we slowly find out all the disarray has been the work of a secret organization sowing the seeds for chaos in the nations, Zahir did say there were others anyway. So we could see a modernized Red Lotus that has high ranking officials in seats of power doing corrupt things in the name of the lotus to keep that chaos brewing. This series would be like a political-mystery/thriller with the avatar having to figure out who’s really pulling the strings and putting a stop to them. I also loved the idea of the triad, having a mafia in the avatar world is cool as hell so maybe somehow some how the triads are even bigger and working for someone in the Red Lotus and they provide the physical challenge for the avatar throughout, trying to stop or kill him so he can’t restore balance and he spends the show fighting them while uncovering the truth about his world. Anyway that’s my whole big pitch, I really gotta start cataloging this stuff

Please man make more of these avatar videos I am so incredibly hyped to see where it goes, I love the themes that you want to convey and I also believe it fits in with the themes of the last airbender. Plus Tai being an avatar on a redemption journey and going on the quest alone without a gaang is very interesting to me!

I think this could also be shown as a semi-way to reflect and mirror on how the Fire nation deteriorated into it’s facism by showing how it happened to the earth kindom. Yeah it got touched on by the og series but we never really saw that descent into tyranny that happened with the fire nation. Seeing the Earth Kingdom go down a similar trajectory could shed light on how the fire nation also fell. What the fire nation (and avatar Roku) both did wrong to stop it, and what Tai and the earth kingdom can do differently to not have a repeat. I think if Tai would be able to reconnect with the past spirits, he would probably heavily rely on Roku’s guidance by the end of the season. Asking roku about his experiences in the fire nation and for assistance in stopping his own nation from falling down that same path.
