There's just no way anyone involved in this "film" would've thought that scene was a good idea!! @@secludedmisanthrope6388 no, people (directors, script writers, whoever greenlit this film for production) are just weird. someone thought that scene was necessary and added to the story or added to the audience's experience. you'd have to be in their mind at the time to find out. i say "at the time" because many directors etc., have gone "i don't know what i was thinking." and that's hilarious because life is like that sometimes, especially when you're creating something and working under pressure, the human mind can warp. i will say that the way this movie is completely over the top was the style at the time. When A Stranger Calls is a landmark film but the opening scene which inspired virtually all horror movies that came after it literally looks like a parody because of how hard the soundtrack and visuals hit the viewer over the head. i think it's because modern films are derivatives of When A Stranger Calls and i think the same can be said for The Car.

@@princesstamikaHaving grown up in the 80s, I can agree with that but still, there are limits on how HORRIBLE and STUPID a movie can be, unless the intent was to make a pointless and impossibly bad movie like Uwe Boll has done for decades or how Troma video made movies back then... When you see bad movies now, everyone wants to say, well the creator made it that way intentionally, to be funny or whatever and that is unacceptable. Garbage needs to be called out as garbage...

Having [barely]lived through the 70s, I can tell you that, yes; our cars were very hazardous. I mean, you had to be careful with how you closed the doors. If you closed them too hard, you ran the risk of causing your car to go into a barrel roll, and bursting into flames. And getting into a rear end collision was sure to cause you to be launched 30 feet into the air, invert you, and land you on the back of a semi trailer. Of course, if you yelled, "HOLD ON!", you'd survive. Then you'd crawl out the windows, rub your head, and take your "These" pills for a few days until you weren't sore.

Back in 1977 I was 8 years old and going to the movies with my best friend once a week, every week from the 1970s-1980s. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies. He lived in a distant neighborhood and I had to take a public city bus to get to and from his place. Normally, most times we went to one of the movie theaters in or near his neighborhood. After seeing our movie in the theater, we'd retreat back to his apartment to watch even more movies on his living room tv that happened to be airing that afternoon and evening. The Car was one of the few movies we didn't get to see in the theaters. We didn't see it until a couple years later in his living room when it debuted on tv. I think the year was either 1979 or 1980 when we were 10-11 years old. After seeing the movie on his tv, I took my bus home. The bus let me off a block or so away from my place. As I walked up my street to get home, it was after dark and I was scared of all the cars parked alongside the sidewalk, especially the ones with their front tires turned towards me on the sidewalk. I warily eyed them, worried that one of them would jump up onto the sidewalk and give chase to me! I finally reached my home and breathed a sigh of relief. Because as one will recall in the movie, there's a scene in which the car kills one of its victims by smashing through her single level house. But I lived in a 2 family apartment house and my apartment was upstairs on the second floor!

This was my favorite one of your videos I've seen so far. Also, as a little kid in the early 80's, my friends and I were legit scared of killer cars like this.

This movie was on tv all the time when I was a little boy. It scared me. I remember the car was displayed at Universal Studios Hollywood behind velvet rope late 70's to early 80's.

It is great that you added "weird" and not only "bad movies" this is a magnificent movie and really strange but it is not bad, and I have to confess that for a long time it was one of my favorites, it is too entertaining

Now I understand that Futurama joke where Bender turns into a killer "werecar". It was a reference to this movie... Only took nearly 20 years to find out...

Thank you for making this video I think this is the best car horror movie... THE CAR also had a 4:11 Gear ratio, Which made a lot of torture for spinning those Micky Thompson tires 10" 1/2 inches wide each. At the end of the movie where it's blown up after going off the cliff you can see a mouth open and a tongue out... it really wasn't destroyed. Then when the credits scrolling at the very end of the movie you see the cars rear tires Traveling through a city it's not a desert... look closely real tires of THE CAR And at last few seconds you'll hear that cars Horn Blair it is still ALIVE !!!! I just want to thank you for cheering me up. Locked indoors, at first because of coronavirus, and now because of the violent protests here in NYC, it has become all too much. Today, I stumbled upon your channel, and have now watched a bunch of episodes; this particular one probably elicited the most amount of laughter. Keep up the good work. The world needs more people like you.

The people in this horror movie don't appear to be nearly as dumb as 99% of other horror movies. The Car has heart and is a very well done low budget flick.

I remember seeing this broadcast on TV back in the 1980s - of course, it'd had been edited for television, but it still stuck with me through the years. I loved the design of The Car, some fantastic work by George Barris. I'll have to find this on Blu-Ray and watch it again. It's a B-movie, to be sure, but a pretty well-made B-movie.

I saw this movie when it first came out but on some early version of HBO we had when I was a wee lad. I love this movie! I liked The Car, Laser Blast & Roller-Coaster. My Dad gave me an appreciation for bad movies. He also got me into 1970s Blaxploitation movies too. Thanks for this!

I was really hoping that scene of the car going off the cliff would reveal Toonces as the driver
"The suspense in this film is fantastic and just builds and builds as the film moves on. One thing that this film did take from Jaws is how the music changes when the car appears in the scene. It truly hightens the suspense of the scene and really pulls you in and brings you to the edge of your seat."

@@homelesshannah50 Wow you sound just like that old bitty teacher in the movie lol. The kid was 13 not 5. Pretty normal to have his hormones raging at that age. The art was actually classy. A 13 yr old today would have drawn a bukkaki anime of his teacher and put it on the internet.

Little know car fact from the 70's. Cars had a grounding problem with their metallic roofs. It the roof touched the ground in a roll over it would release a discharge of static electricity that would immediately cause the gas tank to ignite and explode. It's why vinyl roofs where so popular in the 70's.
@12345.......2 жыл бұрын
Plus the nitro glycerin used as an insulator for the roof.

What I'd have loved seeing was a Knightrider episode revealing that K.I.T.T. had been made from parts from this car where he finally faces off with it on on the psychic auto plane (with the Lovebug and Christine routining for each one).
