Fanboyism isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Definitely not deserving of a dsm-v acronym. The problem is not having enough idols to build an intricate mosaic of traits. The problems come when you only have a few models to work with and you aren't able to contrast many. You're gucci at the opposite end of the spectrum, and you should strive to build an aggregate self, at the expense of your individualistic pursuits and self-discovery. If it conflicts with you becoming more self-minded, which it doesn't, so be it. There's nothing in the self to discover, anyway. Observing myself is pointless. It's like me starting to write books without having even read more than 200 in my whole life. I'm all of a sudden going to write books like Jules Verne, from my imagination, despite not having traveled to 3 countries my whole life. Here is the power of having many idols. I watch your videos and I dislike your anime thumbnails, I click anyway because I like the weight stuff and also the philosophy content. I learn a lot. I then watch your personal attacks on the merc, how relentless and how much of a bully you are, how crass and cruel you can become, making him the focal point of your rage and expending so much energy, and then I watch another guy I respect, alphadestiny. In comparison, he comes off as more chill, somewhat more macho, dignified, if you will. Then, I can contrast you with Will Tennyson, who has achieved a great physique as well and is upbeat, humorous, charming, never negative. However, I still like your content and I binge on it, because it intrigues me. You see, I can still be very particular about the things I like and dislike. I retain this faculty, so there are no dangers of a messiah-apostle relationship here. At the very worst a master-disciple one. In reality, I just wanna copy your homework. You don't have to dive on your sword and cordon yourself, warn me about the dangers of hijacking my ego or about the dangers unrequited bromance. I bromance on whoever i want to bromance on, and I happen to be a sucker for the bros, If I decided I like your "I am my fellow man's steward" schtick and I find it funny you upload 1 hour 40 mins vids about self-betterment-of which I'm only watching 30 mins (speaking badly about yourself). I like that. I also like the bdsm stuff about weights and stoicism, I need some bdsm in my life. So i'm in 70% agreement across the whole range of topics, and on weight training is 98%. 70% is a healthy percent.

Interesting comment. Fanboyism might not be a mental illness but it certanly isn't good to abandon your own identity just to submit to some idol. It feels good to be a follower but doesn't propel you forward.
@toastyeggfilms3 жыл бұрын
Ok I agree . you can look at the self as nothing but just a blank canvas or even a canvas with a few pointless stuff on it. and so u could prefer all the worlds input to make a nice painting. But even if the brain is limited, it is so powerful that even one input of a concept, or you can even say an idol for multiple ideas, adds so much to the complexity of ur understanding of the world that you necessarily become self-focused and creative. Because you have to interact in unique ways with this information to the world, this is the point where novelty comes out of you.Literally from ur birth, the outside input of the world feeds into this unique identity, even if it was only a single memory, so that You don’t have to consciously think of idol collecting, because it’s already always happening, and there’s something beyond that. My point- each human stands on the edge of new things. You aren’t always creating the most groundbreaking things like 400 iq Einstein mode, but this process is always happening, even with things you think of as mundane, or beyond yourself. Learning about Ernest Becker leads me to this mindset. The denial of this reality is the cope, the comfort of escaping into the community. Also, I get that feeling for those bloho videos. Let’s be honest It’s mob mentality for a good cause lol. But we need that. To understand people who go too far down the dark arts. That is the only good function of bloho. Ok thank u

If you're able to retain critical thinking then I wouldn't say you're a fanboy in the first place. A fanboy to me is someone who chooses to ignore objective reality, either consciously or subconsciously, and considers the word of the person they worship as indisputable.

#1 worst fanboys is for sure Mike Israetel and RP. They take everything he says as gospel and think everything he says is science based even though alot of the concepts he comes up with are bro science. Even some of the other "science based" guys like Eric Helms have called him out on his concepts having no scientific backing. On places like Reddit, if a training program does not fit into Mike Israetels magical volume, intensity and frequency ranges then it is deemed garbage and wont work at all. Mike and the RP guys have this weird passive aggressiveness in debates with people, and in training videos they try to appear hardcore by doing sets of leg press "to failure" and then flopping on the floor like drama queens. The funniest part is that many people have analyzed the videos and they aren't even training anywhere close to failure. Fans of Mike and RP almost always have that same elitist mind set and passive aggressive behavior. Super, super cringe worthy.
@simranbiryani30683 жыл бұрын
I stopped being a fan of Israetel when i saw the debate against Doucette, the passive aggressiveness and elitist mindset was so apparent in that video. Its funny because he turned out to be wrong about some things like the definition of obesity. Also when i saw pictures of what Israetel looked like naturally its hard to take him seriously, he was just a fat guy. He had to take steroids to get results, yet Reddit and the internet regard him as the king of training advice for natties for some reason. But the internet also regarded Rippetoe as God at one point, and recommended starting strength even for people with aesthetic goals. When it comes to lifting advice its best to just stay off the internet. Picture of Israetel natty 2.bp.blogspot.com/_cW6zjVNGGEs/TLzDWSkm2gI/AAAAAAAAAUY/ON6ZeFulYHA/s1600/CC,+MI,+AS.jpg

@@simranbiryani3068 I agree with the idea that the advice from RP and Israetel probably isn't as good as some bootlickers make it out to be, his smug elitism is incredibly annoying and his drug abuse takes away a lot of his credibility; but I'm not sure it's fair to use that picture to show that he wasn't able to reach his goals naturally because if I'm not mistaken he started out as a powerlifter and not as a bodybuilder

Ive heard RP preach a deload phase and constantly adding progressive overload in the form of weights and if you can't up the weight then it's time for a deload phase but i have seen other videos saying rep goal is more attractive because even if you don't up the weight in a session your muscles still got the stimulus needed to grow so you don't need a deload phase in theory ever. i dont get how i am an idiot for it. you just dont discover things out of the blue most of the time. some external factor introduces you to it, you try it and and then you either start to like that thing or dislike it. And for an authoritive figure, how are you supposed to learn someting without someone who already knows? for example, if you want to learn basketball, you'd go to a coach who knows it himself. of couse you still need to put the effort in yourself, and also practice on your own too. i mean yes some people can do it themselves but not everyone could, and imo it would be better to learn from someone first because they'll at least know something as opposed to you being a complete beginner. Eklavya learned bow fighting entirely on his own, which shows that it can be done, but very rarerly. almost all elite athletes have a coach from the start. and why is it better to discover something on your own rather than through someone else? tbh i'm glad that i found the channels that i did early on. Same with manga and anime. many peope i've heard get motivated to start training and improving their lives after they watch some cool anime/ manga (like berserk, baki,). I remember you also said that you started training because of it. I also disagree on the point where you say that you shouldn't thank the youtuber but rather yourself or someting like that. What i believe the problem is the hyperboles that people use like 'you are the best thing ever'. I mean yea it is you yourself who decided to improve but the youtuber sure did help with their vid. so what's the problem for thanking them for it? Would like to see if your stance on this topic has changed with time. Also would appreciate your criticism of my comment and explanation. Keep the philosophical vids going!

Hi guys, this is Jeff Cavaliere, AthleanXdotcom . One of the biggest problems i have faced while training athletes, mostly pro baseball players, is that they train with progress not designed for their body, today I’m going to teach you one simple trick to determine which typo of exercise is good for you. I want you to stand on the frame of a doorway, just like this. Now, fix your posture and lift yourself with your tiptoes, lift yourself as much as you can. See, doorways are a standard height, so if your head touches the frame, it means you are a tall guy, at least 6 feet 1. If you can do this, stand on your tip toes and touch the frame, it means you are perfect for heavy lifting, deadlifts, squats, whatever. Now, what happens if you can’t reach the frame, if you are short guy, well, I’ll teach you a trick to fix that. Get one resistance elastic band and hang it from the door frame, since you can’t reach it, stand on a chair or a box. At this moment, place the elastic band around your neck and hang yourself until you die, there you go, an easy fix for your manlet problem, that way no one will ever say you are compensating.

One of the most counterproductive things about the fanboy culture is when the fanboys don't actually practice anything that their idols preach, because they have them up on such an inhuman pedestal. Eric Bugenhagen and Kierekos Grizzly are peak examples. I'm not blaming them at all, they actually have very useful and interesting training ideas, but their fanboys never try any of them, they just yell MINDSET!!!!! and treat it like a And then if they ever see any other unconventional lift done by anyone else, they just yell MINDSET at that too, and it's like no guy, this isn't a mindset it's a great lift for improving your hamstrings glutes and low back, you should actually *try* it, to which they stare blankly. Through no fault of their own their popularity actually makes it harder in some ways to seriously advocate for unconventional lifting.

Before i watched the video . cause God i was just a BIG fan boy back then .. for "aThLeAn X" (one of the biggest disappointment i had in a person before) .. but i am so glad that the Fake weights stuff happened really .. cause here's the stages i went though as a former fanboy i respected Jeff a lot specially cause back then i HATED going to the Gym .. i liked to be "Athletic" as in body weight stuff , etc .. cause the Gym's to this day has "One size fits all plan" for all the people .. and Ofc it's the (Steroid Bodybuilding Bro split Machine based style) .. so i HATED that all i am doing is sitting on a machine moving my arms .. but with Jeff i discovered Compound movements .. also he seems like he knew what he was talking about .. so i got hooked ! fast forward .. discovered the Jeff nippard , jeremy Either and Dr.mike and when i saw them sometimes saying stuff different than what Jeff's saying i am like "Oh Oh cause they'r training for Bodybuilding not for being Athletic like Jeff does" ... (watta a fool i was) then the "Shredded" sports science , Alan robots that i was following and respecting (didn't know their was his bodyguard) .. then the video about (enkiri elite fitness) attack Jeff for living came out .. and i agreed like ye who's this guy and what does he know he seem like he never trained and hating .. fast forward to the fake weights stuff ... i Agreed with Alan's opinion back then .. ye fake weights for demonstration who cares BUT i saw Sean nalewanyj's video ... that he used Jeff's arguments and words against him ..i was like WOW he's right . plus Jeff always breached about "Oh u should have a strong core and never use belt cause it's not athletic" Lol .. yet when he lifted real weight he used a belt ... and "didn't leave his ego on the door and lift with perfect form and just dropped the weight" like he always said ... seen a lot more stuff that opened my eyes ... so i disregarded his info being legit . and followed him lightly with being skeptical ... but i was like (ye he lifted fake weight but let's not stretch it by saying he's not a strength coach come on he's knowledgeable) tell i saw the GVS video on enkiri elite fitness review .. andi was shocked . Like WOW that was the guy i said he's a hater and never lifted ... he's a MONSTER and he's really the one training like an Athlete not just a gimmicky word .. i stared following him and Curlen X .. and saw the whole picture and the whole story .. and people like GVS , Dr.Mike . Dr.austin baraki .. etc making fun of his info (breathing out before u squat and such) i was like ... OOOH DAMN he's the BIGGEST Clown that knows shit about fitness there is .. and the fact that he used to make fun of V-shred ... and he's a clown too ... i unfollowed him ever since and was SO SO DISSAPOINTED that i used to believe in him and just wanted to erase all his shitty info from my head ...

Disagree, you can have healthy parasocial but agree that the healthy form will always result in detaching from the teacher. To fully adopt the good of a teacher you must for the sake of your betterment view them as superior, else how can you truly adopt the teachings and truly imbue them into your life? But, to give my example, as I found myself watching people like alphadestiny, Alan thrall etc I naturally exhausted the well of positive information they had to offer, realised they were just vessels conveying things which are already in nature which I could have discovered for myself if I had the experience (but they by chance discovered and i by chance stumbled across said things via their work), I also found myself detaching from them and now I feel like their content is beating a dead horse, like most shit on KZbin. I believe this is when you’ve “seen enough”, there is nothing more to learn. In a sense, “outgrew” them, like you outgrow your parents, to a lesser extent of course. However, like you say, KZbin and modern media definitely makes the path to that unhealthy form of the parasocial more streamlined.

I've had a theory for years that once a channel reaches a big enough subscriber count you know its over. The only way you can get that high of a subscriber count is by sacrificing what got you big in the first place and you have to start cranking out cookie cutter content. The comments become meme city. Look at MPMD's channel. NH at 15k subs talking about Fanboyism for 1.5 hours in what looks like a bathroom with a wrinkled French flag now thats content. I like the squat everyday guy's channel (Ivan Djuric) he's at around 35k, I'm worried he'll get too big and the comments will all be memes.

Some good points made but you're glorifying individualism. The western world is currently suffering from unhealthy individualism. Tribalism is natural, its healthy, people want to belong to something. But I don't think that belonging to various online communities is healthy tribalism. Seek genuine friends, be someone others can trust. Surround yourself with people who encourage you but also compete with you.
@NaturalHypertrophy3 жыл бұрын
Agreed with your points but would just like to correct one thing: glorifying individualism is by default a critic of unhealthy individualism. There is nothing wrong with the original value, only with what it has become in the West.
@therealaaFireFoX3 жыл бұрын
@@NaturalHypertrophy If you were merely defending individualism I would view that as a critique of unhealthy individualism, but glorifying it is perpetuating unhealthy individualism. Individualism is good, it is healthy, but it is not a god, it is not something that will vastly improve one's life. As clichéd as it is, life is a balance of individualism and collectivism. The individual is nothing without the group, and the group nothing without the individual.
@NaturalHypertrophy3 жыл бұрын
@@therealaaFireFoX I encourage you to watch the video I linked in the description, as these are my thoughts exactly. I struggle to understand how you can say that individualism won't improve someone's life while at the same time saying that you need to balance collectivism with it in order to have a fulfilling existence when the collective cannot exist without the individual. If no one focuses on their individuality, there will soon be no (healthy) groups.
@ybbob__2 жыл бұрын
we need more individualism in the western world if anything American politics is the ultimate divider and it is a great way for the elites to control the masses the only way to destroy that system is by rejecting the idea that you must belong to a certain political party or ideology all that does is cause more hypocrisy because of how extremely partisan American politics is

"you project your individuality on others" That hit me like a truck. For some reason I always assume others think and act in a simular way. I am 18 and no I don't have life experience but that doesn't mean I am an idiot imo. I am capable of logical thought. Probably to a greater extend compared to my peers. If I look at people at my university and listen to my friends and professors I have to conclude that my intelligence is relatively high. With that said the real problem is that I came to youtube to learn how to lift better and get better results. Compared to you, I don't know shit about lifting. This will make me believe anything you say is true. That is why I try to watch a lot of different channels. When watching to much of 1 person I have to take a break and stop watching them for a while. I understand you don't want a discord server but how about a server about spiritual/intellectual/philosophical debate about topics like this or just individualism? If you want to I could host it so you are not the person with the crown next to it. If you read this: where did you learn about this topic? You seem pretty smart but I can't believe you came up with this yourself.

I slightly disagree with your idea of fanboyism. I would argue that the idea of fandom can actually be a very positive thing. I am to find common ground with someone because they are interested in something that I also enjoy. Thus, a relationship has the chance to form. That is in fact how I found your channel because you have a similar love for the story of Berserk. But of course, there is a dark side to fandom as is with almost everything. Now however, what I do find interesting was my reaction to when you said "I am not a good person". I had an internal reaction where I thought perhaps you were just being modest or maybe my inner empathy had kicked in and told myself that there are more positive qualities to yourself than you let on. That could also be that I have unknowingly have created a parasocial relationship with you, but I find that unlikely because I don't look up to you or take everything you say as the word of God. I genuinely enjoy your content and you as a person i find interesting, along with your views and opinions
