I have to say I was amazed by this gear system. It's incredible and uses all available space for the lever. My dad is a mechanical engineer. I was always more of automation and electronics guy, loved to chase electrons more than having fun with screws. But to be a good tinkerer, you have to keep an eye or two on other stuff :D I hope you will invite Mr Robert Murray-Smith for some next year fun😉 It is wonderful to see this community of makers and science propagators developing. @@Renee_R343think Emily spent longer designing and building hers than Tony did his because of two things - Tony's thing exists already. Tony has years of experience as a machinist. Tony made a machinist clamp. Emily made an arm. Materials wise, Tony used some spare brass and steel knocking about his shop. Emily used a bunch of plastic. Cost wise I wouldn't be surprised if it was fairly close. Tony had plenty of time to focus on finish, Emily spent hers designing the actual thing first. Now you value a machinists clamp more than a plastic third arm, which is fair. But effort and cost is probably about the same.
