I have to say I was amazed by this gear system. It's incredible and uses all available space for the lever. My dad is a mechanical engineer. I was always more of automation and electronics guy, loved to chase electrons more than having fun with screws. But to be a good tinkerer, you have to keep an eye or two on other stuff :D I hope you will invite Mr Robert Murray-Smith for some next year fun😉 It is wonderful to see this community of makers and science propagators developing. Merry Christmass and a happy New Year to all! 🎅

@@ArunBasilLalWell, it's kind of in bad taste given that ToT has the advantage of years of metalworking and machining experience, which means his projects naturally align with the type of design that society sees as high quality. @@Renee_R343think Emily spent longer designing and building hers than Tony did his because of two things - Tony's thing exists already. Tony has years of experience as a machinist. Tony made a machinist clamp. Emily made an arm. Materials wise, Tony used some spare brass and steel knocking about his shop. Emily used a bunch of plastic. Cost wise I wouldn't be surprised if it was fairly close. Tony had plenty of time to focus on finish, Emily spent hers designing the actual thing first. Now you value a machinists clamp more than a plastic third arm, which is fair. But effort and cost is probably about the same.
