I agree, and yet I felt his character in the first season was just the opposite, very stiff. All those frozen poses, legs apart, arms stiff extended from his body. It looked like he had a stick up his rear. Maybe it was the direction that was to blame, but I'm so glad he was able to let his own personality shine through after that 1st season.

@@stevet7487 I think a lot of Riker's posture AND his moodiness was due to the original costume, which Jonathan Frakes absolutely hated wearing, and was so uncomfortable that it gave all the actors back ache. So maybe it wasn't Riker's beard that saved the show, it was the two-piece costumes.

The love for Startrek has stayed over the years and my love for si-fi alltogether. I still appreciate so much the moral codex to work and exist together no matter how alien a creature or culture may be. Communicate and try to understand and appreciate each other not fight. Startrek was in a way (along with loving parents) giving me a moral compass, which I still live by.

I was thinking the same - for ‘2019’ but sadly by the time of Season 3 Picard she tipped the scales in the wrong direction with too much filler and work around her mouth. Such a shame, as like you say, just 3-4 years before she had still preserved that beauty.
@ah79106 ай бұрын
@@mickhasthefacts8632 Marina (always comes across so miserable and snarky) was sadly playing around with her face as far back as Season 6/7 of TNG, getting some strange procedure to her lips. It’s been downhill since then. I genuinely think a bit of botox, a subtle facelift in your late 40s/50s or a jawline lift and keeping your weight down is all a person needs to stay looking young into their 60s. All these cheap and lazy derma fillers are literally morphing and disfiguring celebrities faces.

Wil Wheaton is such a great speaker. Brent Spiner is like that in real life. I met him a few times and actually had dinner with him once. Everything that comes out of his mouth is sarcastic jokes. Hilarious guy. I said hi to Majel Barrett at a Trek convention back in the day and got her autograph. She was obviously very friendly to everyone. Finally, on an Amtrak train from Connecticut to Washington DC, we sat across from Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters. Whoopi was very nice and we chatted for a couple minutes. I imagine we all like either the character or actor more, but Im betting we are all pleasantly surprised in the end how that reveals itself to us? I know I am. Example: I didnt care for Wesley Crusher too much, but I really like Will Wheaton. Same for Trois and Marina Sirtis. In actor's terms thats a compliment, right? They like to be loved or hated, it means they reached us emotionally. Its when we are'nt moved either way they feel like maybe they didnt succeed in convincing us with the character. Thank you for posting.🖖🏼

To add to the list of essential reading: Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. 36 stand alone novels that still somehow manage to be intertwined, while messing with preconceptions of story and character in totally unexpected ways. No other series has a six foot six dwarf, a wizard incapable of magic, a benign tyrant who administers the occasional light shower of terror, a pantheon of more than 3000 gods (with more being discovered by research theologians)..The list goes one. My personal favourite is the agoraphobic bogeyman; he's fine at the hiding in a cupboard or under the bed, but too scared to actually jump out and scare people. :D
