I'm such a later comer June, I feel so disgusted that Fanny never entered my stratosphere until a couple of months ago. That comes from living in Australia who never recognised you, Jean, Nicky & Alice at all. I apologise on behalf of out great nation. Seriously, Blind Alley is now my ringtone and I have watched the BBC live recording so many times now, I think the KZbin version has worn out. Give my best to Jean , I will go to the go fund me age now.

@@Foxswoop I too just found this outstanding all female group....unfortunately it did not come sooner!! Fanny came in an era with strong cultural sexist bias! I'm grateful enough to have found this and that they never let our culture stop them from providing some of us with outstanding music. If it wasn't for the technology of today, I would have missed this opportunity! Thank GOD my parents raised me in a family where my mother & father shared roles. We as a society have a ways to go. I have several Fanny playlists created over the past 3 days, thank you June!

Captain Nice - The picture is of the band, The Svelts, the band that June and Jean started in high school. I started a band in high school called The Women (awful name, yes?), and Addie was in the California Girls. All of these morphed into Wild Honey, which signed the recording contract with WB/Reprise. We had changed the name to Fanny by the time Nickey joined. That was the foursome that recorded four albums and toured from 1969 to 1973. Thanks, Alice

@@alicedebuhr6457 Hi Alice, many thanks for the information on that photo of The Svelts. There is no more beautiful sight on this planet than beautiful women at the beach (with good music of course !!!) and that photo clearly shows why this is true. Did Wild Honey (or your group The Women) ever release any LP's while signed to WB/Reprise? By the way, around 1982, I lived not that far away from Fanny Hill (just above Sunset Blvd.). I lived just around the corner from IRS Records (A&M Records) located on Sunset Blvd and LaBrea Ave. I believe you were at IRS Records then???

The world wasn't ready then for an all female ROCK band, and to a large extent still isn't. Name ONE other all female ROCK band. Heart? Nope, half&half, abba, same thing. With the sole exception of the Bangles any other band is going to be less well known. Joan Jett, original band the Runaways, all women, lasted 3 years. Her much more successful, The Black Hearts, all men save Joan. The music industry loves female acts like Perry, Jackson, Beyonce, Swift, all good, but an all female band aspiring to be the next Beatles or the Stones, good luck with that. So I have spent quite some time going through KZbin lately for Fanny live videos. Which has been very rewarding. One thing though - I find it a bit annoying with all the comments pointing out that they were an all-female band. I mean, sure, they were pioneers. But at the core of it you have the music and the energy, the rock and the roll and the soul and the heart. And that's what matters. The only reason I can find to mention their gender is that it's very appealing not getting any of that boring old cock rock macho posing with the package. I mean, I do love a lot of all-male bands but honestly, all that posin' can become too much every now and then.

I think you're right. I think you ladies were just too ahead of the curve. If you look at other, similar female acts (that sang but didn't necessarily play) like Eve, Mama Lion, Melanie didn't transition well into the 70's.... and just between you and me.... I don't think Janis Joplin would have been as popular as she was had she not.... y'know.... passed on. Hell, even Linda Rondstadt had a bit of a rough start and had a hard time being taken seriously and today she's thought of as one of the fore-runners of female rockers. I really don't know if you could've done anything differently.... I just hate to think that - as a man - we're so ignorant as to pass over amazing talent just because it comes from a woman. Had I been around in '72.... I'd have definitely been buying your records; but I dig the esoteric. It does make me happy to know that you're finally getting some recognition. I recently watched the documentary "Right to Rock" and I'm comfortable enough to admit I got a little choked up at parts. What a journey! Bless you all and keep on showin' us how it's done!

Uh, no ~ I haven't dropped out, not at all. Played on "Fanny Walked the Earth" (some of my songs are on it), been playing at the doc FANNY: the Right to Rock premiers, and am about to put out a new album, "Snapshots." Check it out, in about a month - it's just about to drop.

Is 63 too old to be a groupie? 🤠

I think fany is a great band but could have been a lot bigger had they added a male vocalist.there were lots of male bands with female singers but no female bands with male singers and a male voice would have brought balance to the band. problem with all girl singing is you have to keep your melodies in a higher register

wonder whatever happened to all of them after their successes with this band

Jean and June Millington (bass and guitar respectively ) are both not in the best of health. Alice de Buhr the drummer has her own KZbin channel. Nicky Barclay on piano and vocals left the music business.
