Very happy I passed on this one. Not nearly enough here to make me swap out my MP-28. Articulation is to limited for me, alt mode looks completely off especially when it doesn't hold together well. And these gaps in the torso I can't tolerate as well. Thanks for the review and saving me Money (once again).

I hate to admit it but I'm not happy with this figure at all and am going to say something that would get any collector shunned... I prefer the takara. The hood and thighs look better but I prefer just about everything else. I hated the takara but would always find myself grabbing it off the shelf, posing, transforming it,etc and then one day I realized I don't do that with many of the pieces in my collection and had to accept that I actually like it. This was a missed opportunity by fanstoys.

@bobby skullface I have found out how to tab everything in at the end in alt mode. It´s not hard you just have to change the order. 1. The back part of the roof in on a slider you can lift that up a little to see where to tab things in more easy. 2. Wait to tab in the tiers, there are parts that gets in the way when trying to tab in the back part of the sides. 3. tab in the sides. 4. To fix the back wheels just extend the tab on the flap to the max it will hold very good and the tiers will not be in a angel. 5. slide the back of the roof back with the bumber inside of the channels. Done and it looks great. Keep up the good work!

Cracking review as always, but this figure looks a complete mess. It's almost like FT forgot they had this on their release schedule from a few years ago, then suddenly picked up the project half-baked ! Doesn't get close to MP quality, and I dare say if it didn't have a FT logo it would be getting far harsher reviews ? Cheers

Hey man, great review as always. I had a similar issue with the transformation into alt mode the first time...try this: The piece that the spoiler attaches to collapses either side, leave it collapsed until last. Tab everything else is in and then re-assemble the spoiler mount/back of the car. This is a great looking figure, looks good on your shelf.
@dare27275 жыл бұрын
all my problems lie in the neck area, the look and the limited articulation. This is the hardest piece ever to decide if i should swap out. I have them both on my season 3 shelf in the same pose. I will keep looking at it for a while to decide which on i should keep. they both have their pros and cons which are completely opposite of each other. The best way to sum it up is this. Its better than takara (marginally) but not nearly as good a figure we deserve.

@bobagorof5 жыл бұрын
Already ordered mine and it's in the process of being shipped. I don't have MP-28 so swapping out is not a concern. I am a bit disappointed about the gap around the collar - I'm pretty sure there would be another way to do that without running the risk of scratching the paint (perhaps having the hinge slightly closer to the chest and have it fold around the top and tuck in, say). Hopefully I'll be pleased with my purchase when I get it in hand - though the gap from the side is also a concern and not really visible in the promotional photos. Interestingly, a growing number of FansToys' releases look great but have major questions/disappointments in the transformation that reduces the enjoyment of the figure - Koot, Rouge, Apache, Quietus, and now Hoodlum. It does make me wonder about their upcoming combiner figures - lots of people are actively waiting for those in preference for other companies' options, but with a recent history of problematic transformations going from robot to vehicle mode, I'm highly skeptical of their ability to throw in an additional limb/torso mode and have any fun left in the figure at all.

Closest so far but still not Hot Rod enough for me to pull the trigger. Seems like a dated design - can't help but wonder if that's because it is and they held it back purely because they didn't think they could go toe-to-toe with Takara. Aside from the faux chest, they've done a decent job of a movie accurate transformation, though. Robot mode proportions are best so far for a Hot Rod; vehicle mode seems way off, though.
@DetectiveBarricade5 жыл бұрын
Arguably they still couldn't go toe-to-toe with the Takara version... Maybe X-Transbots can do a Hot Rod that'll knock it out of the park in both modes. Fans Toys seems to struggle with the movie designs to varying degrees.

They had this bot for years. They could not figure out for a head tilt up at least. Or an ab crunch. The one thing that I still can't keep my eye off is that waist swivel. What's holding it together. I hope its some sort diecast. My G1 Mirage just broke in half but that bot became brittle after decades. This feels like it was rushed for some reason but they had years to perfect it. I'm not someone who's constantly transforming their bots. But I do pose them in their bot mode, which most of the time they are in. And the G1 in car mode. My complaint is that limited articulation it has. Thanks for the review.

This definitely looks like a sculpt that's been sitting on the shelf a few years. The figure looks good overall but the posability looks incredibly weak. Look at the pose at 22:26 it just looks bad. So the figure looks good, has a great presence, but the transformation maybe isn't worth doing because of paint scratching and the car mode itself isn't that impressive. So keeping it in robot mode is ideal but there is limited articulation not giving us much to work with. This is actually a tough one for me. I've been collecting the Fanstoys Season 3/Movie Autobots line and Hot Rod is really the center piece figure that seals the deal. I'll think about it a bit more, hopefully Bobby's SIt Down Saturday will help.

I have a hypothetical question and I’m sure it has been asked before in one variation or another but here goes. If for 50-75% of the price you paid for any of the MP’s in your collection would you pass on the transformation entirely? Keep in mind the articulation would be flawless and the paint would be as good or better. Nowhere near the detail of Flame Toys but let’s call it FansToys Plus.

Very impressive looking robot mode but unfortunately my respect doesn't go further than that. As I've grown as a collector there are two things that I always look for in a transformers figure. Posability and a cohesive alt mode. Unfortunately it seems this figure is lacking in both those categories. While I'll admit that FansToys definitely delivers on impressive robot modes (though something about Rogue still looks off) I've never really been interested in a figure from then besides the Dinobots. Though I may be a bit biased from Maketoys for getting posability and a good alt mode down usually.

If they aren't going to put the care into transformation and are expecting people to not transform the figures why make them transform. The aerialbots and stunticons are coming, as a kid key to vector sigma part 2 was 1 of 5 episodes I had recorded and watched all the time past the end of g1. I expect ft to knock it out of the park. This figure is good for me, I'm psyched for it. But I can see where it would turn off collectors that transform a lot or do crazy posing for photos and stuff. I'm hoping Reprolabels can do something for that neck issue, but that's not too bad for me. I do prefer this to Takara. The one thing that haunts me, and this is becoming an issue in this hobby, there is often (but not always) something better coming. I have upgrade fatigue. At what point is what I have good enough for me? I'm getting this because I've wanted it a long time and it looks great and fits why I collect but it's not perfect, and there's no guarantee that better is ever coming, but it might, and that's a pain in the ass. LOL

You don't think UT's Buzzing/Blurr holds up?

Paul Spurgeon it holds up fine. I was just speaking in terms of size. He’s always seemed a bit big. It was just a comment on that. :)
