I’m a firm NO! on the staggered start. I’ve seen some of the best riders make amazing comebacks through the field over the years, and to me that separates the winners from the whiners. Chase Sexton just a few weeks ago is a classic example.

If Coty Schock were to have been kept out of the racing he never would’ve progressed to where he was. This sport is changing for the worse. Look around at local racing. Not many kids are around for those and check out how little people showed up to Loretta’s. The sport is dying except for the rich. To take away the entertainment side of it will only remove more people who can’t afford to race and are getting tired of the bullshit that’s unfolding. Lifers like myself are about ready to pack up our things and not look back.

I can never understand why we try to fix the wrong things in this sport! We have start devices and fn starting grate, paddle ties and poor track layouts again esp at the start! We need to sort those out then we might not have staring issues, what makes our sport our sport is the sport, its not NBA playoff,s its not Nascar or F! its moto! Fix whats broke and been badly implemented and maybe this issues wouldn't be a problem! We keep messing up the good and ignoring the bad, the flaggers another example, MX Sports and the AMA, how about clean up that shit show! Instead of E bikes and other stupid agenda's that are slowly killing our sport, in the 90-s I thought this sport would be top tier on the level of any other motorsport today! Gotta say I am not sold on this idea. As a fan I love the full gate starts. There are many tracks out there that are incredibly one lined and passing or coming through the pack is extremelt difficult. Budd's Creek comes to mind. Do not want this to become like an F1 race at Monaco where the racers pretty much finish in the space they started in because it is so incredibly difficult to pass.

I like the idea of it being a better choice to pick gate 1 out of 40. Where it is a more biased choice due to the corner being more inside than the 1st gate. It would be a good place to start in the direction of a more thought out way of racing rather than having too dramatic of a change. Also no more grates they suck

It would even be safer if they did it gow MXGP does it. Make sure the first turn is to the left of the first gate, NOT make it bottle neck like they do now especially in SX, just make the start more open and keep the first turn of the track wider than the rest of the track and they can keep the gate drop and make it safer and separation

If they were to stagger the start then I think they should invert the top 20. Points leader starts 20, second in points starts 19, etc… You mentioned NASCAR, but NASCAR has been fading for years. I’m a NASCAR fan, but the racing sucks because there’s not much passing at most tracks.

Having to set the fastest lap and only getting the first gate pick does feel unfair. Especially when the holeshot could come from the complete opposite side of the starting line…whats the incentive to qualifying? If you set the fastest lap in qualifying you should have a massive advantage heading into that first turn. Thats the incentive to qualify well.

Stagger start based on qualifying sounds good in “theory” BUT in the real world of Moto it means the leaders will be on top of lappers by the third freaking lap! THATS not safe!!!! Leaders dealing with slow ass lappers for 25 minutes of every race and landing on lappers on Laroccos Leap, The Chad-a-polt or any number of high speed obstacles on every track??? OR The core DNA of Moto and the “line start”? Think the entire race through Jake. Moto isn’t F1 buttercup. The best in qualifying get the best gate pics. Then it’s 100% a meritocracy!!! Coming up on lappers immediately and dealing with them for a much much longer period of time every moto IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS for the top talent then a gate drop. Jake means well. We’re all aware from that instant a multitude of factors rush into the equation: individual talent, quality or lack there of of equipment etc etc. Obviously even you grasp the talent and equipment gap. Fact and you’d agree: All riders line up next to each other (as ‘equal’ as it can be) and all riders start the race at the same moment ie. the gate drop (all presented the ‘opportunity’ in the same instant). No Goodness go look at the difference in lap times of rides of a race. Buttercup? Does anyone remember the bounty hunter format? I remember going to a race where the final had the last place guy start at the start line and then every 10ft behind was the next place rider. It was on a supercross style track and first qualifier was down almost an entire lap. The whole race the top guys were battling while fighting through the pack. Top qualifier still won but it was such a close race at the end between the top guys and I feel like it made us watch every racer. I don’t know if it works at the top level but I’d argue it was such a good format of racing in my opinion. Thanks for the content!

A staggered start would be a huge paradigm shift. They would have to run several races just to see if it would work. If it didn't work, then those races will have an asterisk next to em. I agree it would be safer. It hinges on whether it would be fair or not. There's quite a few unknowns.

Staggered starts, less of these ridiculous jumps and obstacles creating one line tracks, and a class for the privateers where the winners automatically get a factory ride and the last place finishers in the factory class have to give up their rides that would make it super interesting get rid of the holeshot devices and make scoop tires illegal on any track that isn’t deep sand.
