Man, I miss when third parties did off-the-wall CHUG stuff. Though considering we're seeing an Armada Prime from Fans Hobby and Legends-scaled Beast Wars, even Bumblebee figures, I'm glad to see a branching out from G1 slavery again.

I found that you can use the gap between his back and his cockpit as a makeshift storage place for the green thing. Still haven't found a good place to store it in vehicle mode though. I like to think that FansProject will come out with some kind trailer for to combine with in the future. Only problem is I don't see any obvious connection points for them to use.

Man, it's crazy how long it's been since this guy happened and we sadly still haven't gotten a lot of other third party piece like him. (Original design that's not directly homaging and TF characters) I really agree with the sentiment you gave at the end of this review about wanting third party to move in this direction more and it annoys me to no end how the genre has kinda devolved into nothing but masterpiece alikes, combiners, legends scale toys that are way too high in parts count to be actual legends toys and whatever the next flavor of the year is. I mean, just looking at what you showed of Steel Core in this video there was a lot of potential here for Fans Project and other companies to work with but I guess we just may never see that.

Nice review as ever... Liked the Jon Woo-ing pose with Sidearm and Blesser but does that mean he's going to hose them down with Blesser after blasting them with Sidearm? Made me chuckle.

I am so glad this turned out this well. I do kinda wish they had painted him up like Overload but this still kicks ass. Maybe someday they will reissue Defender without the diecast and maybe slightly re-engineered so he works better...like fix his friggin feet XD

Though he's not supposed to be anyone in particular, this one reminds me of RID Magnus with better proportions. His vehicle mode is similar enough to War Within Optimus' as well, supporting the "this can be an Ultra Magnus, but done in their own style" aesthetic.

Fantastic review, really. I just got him, can't wait to put him on my shelf. I'm pissed that I missed out on the warbot bundle, I now feel inclined to pick up assaulter separately, even though I'm not super crazy about him.

I've been thinking and researching and looking since 2012, and I'm still confused is steelcore an homage to a Transformer (G1 or otherwise) or is he a original design

As far as I can tell, he's an original design. Very much a rarity in third party.

Completely original, but he has a few elements of homage to him. The chunky build, shoulder missiles, and chest business are reminiscent of Armada Overload, and the Heartmaster gimmick is meant to evoke the G1 Breastmasters. And the character design and altmode in general is a bit similar to War Within Optimus, though the transformation is pretty much the reverse of it.

Yeah he's sorta got hints of Overload, War Within Grimlock, and ROTF Rollbar (Robot mode deco-wise). I see him as his own guy, but if anyone made an Energon Ultra Magnus add on for him or anything I'd probably get it, he was my favorite TFer as a kid as weird as that may sound.

Because Hasbro has had the monopoly on the Transforming toy market for ages, and many third party companies do actually violate Hasbro's copyrights to make toys that do a better job representing Hasbro's characters than they're willing to. I don't know about any "doomsday propaganda," but if these companies want to keep growing, they'll have to come up with their own fictions so that Hasbro has no grounds to stop them.

Warbot Steel Core is not an homage to any Hasbro IP of any kind. Steel Core is a character entirely unique to FansProject's fiction, but can still fit in with official stuff.
