St. Vincent is known to be an extremely private person, but wow, I feel like I know her after this interview. She is introspective, warm and humble.... and doesn't seem a bit standoffish. Great job interviewing her and reviewing her record, her comment "I feel very seen" says a lot.

I think Fantano is a part of the new celebrity interview-style (Sean Evans, Nardwuar etc.) where they don’t interview to make headlines but the interview is the content. It has a lot to do with podcasts becoming what it is today where a conversation can become content. Therefore when you interview for KZbin/twitch the issue isn’t to get the interviewee to say something interesting but to engage them in an interesting topic.

good job, man. She seems like an awesome person, and that really came through in the interview. I do feel you came in a little overprepared at times - there were moments I felt she was trying to connect with you through some personal tangents, but you'd just steer the conversation back to your prepared questions about the album. There were also moments you were a bit looser and that felt like a nicer vibe.

@@pughuky5018 Sure, but even though a more avid music fan would get that sense, youtubers (and I'm assuming Anthony himself) have struggled more with the aspect of gaining legitimacy in the eyes of more established reviewers and older music fans. Getting banger interview after banger interview with really important people has to be changing a lot of critics' and naysayers' minds.

@@pughuky5018 _"But dissonance appears on Daddy’s Home whenever Clark’s louche time-traveling character collides with the political tensions of the present day. It’s odd, for example, that two songs on the album refer to calling “the cops,” or 911, in light of the past year’s uprisings against police brutality. A reference to Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam” in “The Melting of the Sun” is similarly ill-considered. Like Hozier before her, Clark dilutes Simone’s fierce and intentional anti-racist activism by listing her alongside white celebrities. The album’s title track deploys a sticky bassline, a syncopated funk groove, and the voices of seasoned Black back-up singers Kenya Hathaway and Lynne Fiddmont to tell the story of Clark and her father, a white man who committed a white-collar crime. Why deploy the conventions of Black music to reckon with his sins? Why wear a mask at all?"_ holy shit dude

48:15 gee, thanks for saying what needs to be said. Paul's experimental side was for more pronounced than John's. Apart from a few extreme and thoroughly unenjoyable instances (eg. Two Virgins, Revolution 9) John was really not that much into the crazy, experimental, or rebellius ways of making music. He made four, samey, clean, classic rock/pop albums, and a basic rock and roll cover album in the first half of the 70s. Which had great bits, but were not revolutionary in any way. While Paul's first 6 albums all had a different sound, and with his first two he basically created a new genre.

My dad my uncle and I were in prospect park when I was in probably second grade and it was night, we snuck into a St Vincent concert (she might’ve been opening up for Nick Cave or someone like that). I was little so I didn’t really care for the music but to see her get more popular is really cool

Melon spending an hour trying to get Annie to say Fear Inoculum wasn't good is not called an interview. Jokes aside this was one of the best interviews on the channel.

This was a great interview. I've seen a few write ups about Annie Clark interviews lately that characterize her as dramatic, cold, uncooperative. But this interview was so conversational and warm, and I really think it comes down to the fact that Anthony is just good at interviewing musicians and these other folks messed it up somehow.
