Fantastic match, one of the best 90s classics with Ronnie and Peter playing at a very high level.
Peter Ebdon plays fluently and aggressively. Back then, he was already a very disciplined athlete, swimming half a mile as part of his daily routine. O'Sullivan plays his attacking game as usual, but he still lacks experience, especially in the safety area. Sports discipline was not yet characteristic of him.
Ebdon Retirement:
In April 2020, Peter Ebdon opted to end his career rather than have spinal surgery after enduring neck, back, shoulder and arm pain.
Part 2 of this video series: • Fantastic Classic: Ron...
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

It’s interesting to see the shot selection and mind set of Ronnie in 96 compared to now

The beginning of a legend and the greatest career in snooker history Ronnie O'Sullivan I live in America he's the reason I love snooker and play as often as possible

Man, this really shows how far Ronnie has come as a player over the years. He's obviously still incredibly skilled here and would already have been showing signs of becoming one of the greats, but the way he's playing here is beyond reckless. So many careless shots and giving Ebdon far more chances than necessary, where the modern Ronnie is much more solid, with great safety play to cause a mistake from the opponent and then clean up with unerring accuracy.

You are not looking at it from the correct angle it's more accurate than you might think and the speed is slower than it appears on camera

Wow! Peter Ebdon playing at "Normal" speed....and with hair!!! I wonder what has slowed him down? He seemed to be able to drop them in from anywhere in these frames. Now days he takes for ever and misses most long shots.

He probably jus over thinks shit like where the white ball is gonna go and every possible place he can get it and every single consequence of each shot he could take He probably wasn’t thinking much here and jus potting colours and trying to get cue ball in a decent place for next shot

10:24 Ronnie was 18 points up, and I think that what he did can be considered a foul on the pink, so this would put Ebdon 12 behind with 13 on the table, what do you think? Nice document Cesar!
@CesarMuroya
@CesarMuroya 3 жыл бұрын
It's a good point. In theory, the shot on the pink was not yet completed because the cue ball was still in motion. However, the ref had already announced the scores, said "42", before the foul (although the official rules say nothing about what announcing the scores entails). In any case, the spirit of the rule was not broken and, most importantly, Ebdon was satisfied with the referee's decision.

Agree. And what caught me was that John Virgo didn't seem to be surprised! Pockets must have played differently then..? You hear Dennis Taylor going on about 'super-fine cloths' on modern tables.. Related??

Wow, GREAT editing again Cesar !! .. so good, that Peter appears to play at "normal speed," Imagine now, him and the wife getting ready to go out to dinner, she's ready, and shouts upstairs to him, "Are you coming?" ... He replies, "Er, just choosing which tie to wear," She, sighs, switches the TV on, makes herself a coffee, and watches her soaps....

Yeah yeah Peter Ebdon played slowly against a nutty head-shaven Ronnie in 05, but slow Ebdon jokes have all been told now, surely... 🤷‍♂

Rumour has it, Peter Ebdon got into snooker by default, he was on his way to the swimming baths, but by the time he got there, it had been knocked down and rebuilt into a snooker hall.

How interesting would it be if ronnie in 1996 would win this match and meet hendry in the final? He could had become the youngest world champion age 20 😅

Well, it wouldn't have been easy. Hendry won all WSCs between 1992 and '96 and quite a few of the other events.

Its painfully obvious now that Peter Ebdon deliberately played sloth style as a tactic to beat Ronnie years later. It waa the only way...to get under Ronnie's skin, get in his head. Looking forward to part 2 to see what transformed Ebdon into who he is today.

It is said when they changed the cloth on the tournament tables, they also replaced the carpet on Ebdon matches. He wore ruts around the table that people could trip on. The referee had to buy gloves by the dozen when he was playing.
