Honestly, I'm joining you: Sue should've been black. Usually, people make comic book movies to adapt things to the screen, and one thing that was widely agreed on is that Sue and Johnny were blood siblings. Not only did they change the race, they changed a family structure that, if followed upon, could greatly change their histories (if the legacy of adopted kids in comics have taught me anything). If Sue and Johnny had been black, yes the race changed, but they are still blood siblings, which is something I consider to be very important to keep. Heck, want more diversity? Supposed interracial couple! Boom!
@MetFanMac9 жыл бұрын
Mitsuki Horenake Honestly if they *had* to racebend somebody in this film (something I'm against on principle, not because of racism or only if it's from one specific race to another), it *should* have been Sue. Then not only do you have the interracial couple dynamic to make things more interesting, it means that when the team's black member uses their powers you can (sometimes) see their skin, plus it just make more sense given how she's the *older* sibling. (Real talk, how many people adopt a child who's older than the child they already have? Not many, I'm betting.)
@MyralinaBradford9 жыл бұрын
***** That would be a good question. Instead of "why is Johnny black?", it's "why isn't Sue black?"

I want Joss Whedon to write(not necessarily direct) but write a Fantastic 4 movie. Joss is extremely good at witty and clever dialogue. He can also write interesting storylines. Which is what the Fantastic 4 should be, not cheesy and corny, but fun characters in serious situations. Having funny back-and-forth banter when there in a dangerous circumstance. If there's just 2 thing this movie NEEDS to get right: a cast with Extremely good chemistry between them. And an unbelievably menacing, strong, intimidating, smart, interesting villain, Doctor Doom! Now who should direct it? I'm open to suggestions.

From what I've gathered, the main problem with the movie seems to be that the set-up takes too long. So long to the point that there's less time for a proper confrontation and conclusion. At least with the 2005 Fantastic Four, there was a clear set-up, confrontation, and conclusion. There were also multiple attempts at comedy, whereas the 2015 movie attempts to take it seriously, like The Dark Knight, but unlike The Dark Knight, the 2015 movie ends up being rather lifeless and boring.

One of the big aspects of the 4 is Johhny and Sue's relationship/brother-sister bond. That wasn't explored......like, at all. I still don't agree with Torch being black. It's like the _Ghostbusters_ reboot. Why not make an original story with an all-woman cast instead of just rehashing something paved by an original cast of men? (Hollywood being original? What a crazy concept!) Same with superheros. Let's just highlight some originally black heroes (and if they're aren't enough, let's make more!)......not change white ones.
@connorjaegar4869 жыл бұрын
They didn't pick Michael B. Jordan because he was black, they picked him because he's a good actor and fit for the role. Race shouldn't restrict you from playing certain roles, in Dark Knight Rises, Bane was played by Tom Hardy who is white, when Bane in the comics is Hispanic. Star Trek Into Darkness, Khan was played by Benedict Cumberbatch who is white, when Khan was originally Indian. Race didn't stop them from playing those roles and doing well, if a white guy pl ayed Human Torch in this movie, it still wouldn't have been good. give Michael some credit, he atleast tried to show emotikn and have fun with this movie but the script was so unbelievabley bad that none of the actors could.
@rhettgedies74679 жыл бұрын
Connor Jaegar I like comic authenticity. I would have wanted Bane accurate as well if I had the choice. I'm not just picking on Michael B. Jordan. They should highlight original black superhero, not change white ones. And vice versa.

Rhett Gedies If the movie had explored that dynamic between adopted siblings more, there wouldn't have been a problem. They hinted at Sue's more ambitious nature while Johnny might harbor some insecurities and maybe even jealousy towards his 'older' sister. Thus causing him to be develop into the hothead that he is. But that's all the development we got, and unfortunately, the best story/character parts stuck in the first act of the movie. 'sigh' I really had optimistic hopes for this one. :/

Here it is March 26 2016, and I'm just now getting around to watching Fant4stic. For the B-movie it so obviously was, I didn't think the movie was all that bad. I was entertained. It wasn't a "big" movie like we've come to expect in from the likes of Marvel/Spiderman/Batman. This was more in the vein of the first Blade movie, or Spawn...small. Which was ok. I saw most of the bad things that most reviewers complained about, but they weren't that huge for me (I wouldn't have even noticed a lot of them if they hadn't been pointed out, like the blonde wig). I think this was an ok movie, I really do. I would've been upset if I had paid to see it in a theatre, but as a $4.99 blue-ray, it was an ok movie. For the record, I thought Spawn and the Green Lantern were ok too, so I guess I just suck as a reviewer.

Doctor Doom went from slightly lamer Doctor Doom to Shodan and C-3PO's lovechild...the tone went from colorful and inspiring adventure to grimderp shit. Why didn't they just adapt the comic word for word? They could've adapted the first arc and it would've been a perfect movie.

Unshaved Malevolence Yeah I mentioned that in an earlier video/Catching Up with Andre that it's based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four storyline. That's why they go into another dimension instead of to space.
@Melkac9 жыл бұрын
Black Nerd Comedy Yeah. Honestly the "N-Zone radiation gave them powers based on the four elements" origin is better, since they visit the damn place so much in the main universe. It's like pottery! But...they don't even call it the N-Zone in the movie...and they don't "go" there as a mishap during testings...they just...get drunk and go there...

If marvel had the rights back, I guarantee you Doom would be another wasted villain like the majority of the marvel villains we have gotten that have been disappointments. Maybe he would be a better portrayal than the Fox ones, but is still think he would be wasted.
@CalyGamer139 жыл бұрын
Dr. Doom is like Marvel's flagship super villain...well him or Magneto for sure. I don't think he'd be wasted just like that, maybe stretch his role out like Loki if they ever got him.

YES! I've been waiting for this review and you did *not* disappoint. You actually almost worded my thoughts completely. I hated all the shit that people were giving this movie, like yeah, it was amazing, but it wasn't the worst thing ever. And you talked about how little screen time Jamie Bell had, I totally agree, which is really annoying because I thought he was really good. Also, you talked about the lack of scenes in the trailer that weren't in the movie, I noticed that too, which was disappointing, but it made me think maybe Josh Trank wasn't just blaming it on someone else in his tweet. And if so, I wanna see his cut of this movie when it comes out on DVD.

why do people want to make already established characters a different skincolor? does skincolor matter? not saying i had any problem with michael b jordan playing johnny , hes a great actor , but when black nerd sais he wantdd to make sue storm blac aswell i just get abit confused.
@BlackNerdComedy9 жыл бұрын
bajsmongo2000 No one was ASKING for a Fantastic Four race change. But having it happen led to many interesting discussions, both postive or negative, about race changing, staying true to the comic book, and making only one of a brother-sister duo a different race. But I always knew Sue Storm would be white, even when it was rumored that Michael B. Jordan would be Human Torch, because in Hollywood, it's still believed mainstream audiences won't see a film with a non-white leading lady.

Black Nerd Comedy That's bullshit! I would definitetly see a film where the female lead was no white! Heck! Marvel is currently doing that with the Netflix TV series Jessica Jones, based on the character and comic of the same name, who's lead girl is an Afrcan-American woman! And if she's a good actress, that's better! I don't see why people would't see a movie who's lead actress is black woman.

I kvetched about Michael B, Jordan for about five seconds before choosing to hope they made Johnny savvy/smart rather than rash/dolt, which even Chris Evans version could be. I think a larger complaint should be about age. Reed being at least slightly older always caused the others to fall in line. Sue being Johnny's at least somewhat older sister drove a large part of who they were, as did the absence of their parents, forcing her to act like a mother to him sometimes. If they're all just about the same very young age, then something IMO is lost. Also, drop the UFF as inspiration. Any adaptation of something so silly is going to be a deconstruction to start with. The UFF were already a deconstruction. Iron Man and FF-616 had the Cold War weeded out, I think in both cases by John Byrne. And once and for all ditch the 'don't anybody so much as glance at the source materials' idiocy. It is adapt-ation. You must know what for to adapting. Look to DB Evolution. Look to Titans Go. Look to Beast Machines. Look to this. Quoth The Squirrel : That Trick Never Works.

Havent seen this movie, and i was one of the ones who defended it and got really pissed at all the "HUMAN TORCH IS WHITE?!??!1?" kinds of criticisms. It really sucks that this movie turned out the way it did. Disappointing, because really this is an all star cast. From what I've heard i'd be down for a sequel and accept it if they just took time to focus on the story, and the connections between characters. No more reboots and thats why i dont want it in Marvel. They dont really have a place there, and rebooting them would do more damage to the franchise rather than success. Side note: I burst into applause when you said how they treated the whole adoption thing. Thank god they didnt give that sort of pre-criticism about that any real weight for the film. Great review as always Andre! Nice to see someone who doesn't outright hate this movie and goes far as saying its worse then like Batman and Robin or something like that. nice to see someone analyze it with a clear head.

Steve Corona Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that. In my opinion, there's good stuff in every bad movie and bad stuff in every good movie, so it's fun for me to look at both sides, so I appreciate you that notices that! Yeah, it's not the worst movie by any means.

Terrible movie the 4 more main actors were awful. Michael B Jordan was acting like Vin Diesel the entire Time,Kate Mara just looked like she did not give a fuck about the movie and had that bitchface she always makes throughout the entire movie neither one of them had chemistr,I was not impressed with Teller,the guy is getting all this praise in other movies and did nothing amazing in this movie,Toby Kebbell was great as Koba but he sucked as Doom and just what they did with Doom was awful. Jamie Bell was the biggest miscast,Ben Grimm is a wise crackin brawler from the streets,Bell was too skinny,short and his voice was awful and they did nothing with him. The Other cast was better even Jessica Alba was better than all the main actors in this shitty movie This worse than Batman and Robin,but at least that movie you can laugh at how bad it is

@BearBeast739 жыл бұрын
As usual Andre appreciate the true HONEST review. You are one if a few reviewers who are not trying to use this film as nothing more than clickbait to try and showcase some fake comic superiority. There have been a whole lot of "true, hardcore" "fans" popping up that loved F4 so much they never purchased the comic making it one of the lowest selling comic lines and giving Marvel a ready made excuse to dis continue the comic line in a grade school cat fight with Fox Studios. Like you I thought it wasn't great/good but far from "the worst comic book movie". Since this movie was released people have gotten real selective amnesia about 70% of these films (Marvel Cinematic included) that are not good to very average. I also thought Michael B's casting was the least of this movies problems. I had stated elsewhere that I thought the Doom and the Reed casting/acting was worse. Clearly a lot of editing was done to piece it together or salvage this film based on the behind the scenes issues we are starting to hear about. That's why the scenes from the trailers were missing and the dis-jointed cutting to different scenes took place. It wasnt good. Wasnt the worst either. Fanboys/girls and elitist comic snobs are looking for the shield to hide behind and balk when their perfect comic world is altered or challenged a bit, be it casting or storytelling. (organic webshooters anyone?)It may take a few films to get it right, it shouldn't but sometime it does (Batman, Spidey, Hulk) Doesn't mean they never will get it right. Thanks again Andre.

To be honest, I kinda liked that they did so much in the lab and trying to figure out what this is going on, that they're building the team until at the end they become team rather than just jumping in and BOOM TEAM. And they did have some team at the start doing science trio stuff though true Grimm wasn't in that and you're right about the lack of Grimm. I guess I like that sort of building and examination stuff more than action. It's nice to have action stuff but you get some mainstream super hero films that I watch and wish there was more character stuff and less action. From the reviews I realise I'm in the minority but there ya go. And Victor going all avatar for evil!Eywa was a take on it I wasn't expecting since all I'd heard before going in was 'OMG HACKER WTF'.
@DogoHalibar9 жыл бұрын
I liked it, but I do agree, it felt more like the Reed Richard movie rather than a Fantastic Four movie, and I didn't like Doom's general design. However, I'm more on the fence about Doom's telekinesis.
