We're back at one of our most favorite boondocking spots, just outside the entrance to Badlands National Park in South Dakota. This is truly fantastic free RV camping.
We get a great hike in and see some of the parks amazing wildlife, and fit in a little maintenance. Gotta do it when that impulse strikes!
For more info on this campsite, including GPS, photos, and reviews check out: www.campendium...

There is boondocking in the National Parks too, ya know? It's less commonly allowed for sure, but not unknown. Sometimes there are free established campgrounds, and sometimes free, dispersed camping is allowed. Just discovered that recently and was very surprised. As an example, there are three (I think) free campgrounds in Big Bend National Park...one of which is 4x4, high clearance, RV/trailer accessible, but the other two are established, Backcountry campgrounds. This is just one example. I'm not looking it up, so I'm not sure, but I think Badlands NP has some free dispersed camping for RV's.. Hope I'm not confusing it with the National Grassland in the area. And although there is, sometimes, free camping in the National Parks, so far as I've seen, it always requires a permit. But wait... Nope, there's an exception to that rule too. There is free, permitless camping in some Alaska NP's in the winter...i.e. October thru April.

Thanks for sharing the tip about the Ram cruise control issue. If that starts happening with our Ram, I will know what to do. : )

Really good one! That terrain is amazing. Are you sure that was planet Earth? I'm liking the way you're respecting the wildlife. So many people try to pester the animals. And yeah, with the wind thing and opening both doors, we learned that real quick in Oklahoma.

We're so happy we've got such great zoom with our camera -- we can really appreciate the wildlife, even from a distance. We loved all the buffalo and big horn sheep here!! And yeah, the terrain is totally other-worldly. Simply amazing

What time of year were you at the Badlands? Is it always windy there? We were in Tucson a few days ago and it was VERY WINDY there as well.

Wind can be such a pain! We were at the Badlands in late September but nearly every review on Campendium also mentioned wind, so I think it’s pretty much always like that 🌬

Amazing shots of the wildlife Maggie! Loved the guys running across the road and the bison with the moon and then there was the next bison 😳 Cruising on our sailboat was just doing boat maintenance in “exotic” locations as well 😂

There's always something to be done, right?! The Badlands are always great for the wildlife. Couldn't believe it when we saw that one aligned so beautifully with the full moon!
