I love that it's now canonical that Blanc has a weakness: dumb people and dumb mysteries. He can't play Among Us or Clue but he was able to solve the planned murder mystery game written Gillian Flynn (who wrote Gone Girl) in an instant. He could unravel Random's plot without ever really meeting him and find Marta's involvement from the very start, but Miles was so unbelievably stupid that he flew under Blanc's radar until the climax. Dumb things are Blanc's canon weakness.

“An anonymous invitation is not to be trifled with.” That’s the only reference to the first movie I noticed. The obvious parallel with Elon Musk was both utterly on point and prescient given current events, though of course he has been an arrogant idiot fraud forever. Wonderful cameos! I think my own favorite was Yo Yo Ma delightedly explaining musical patterns. What a treat! A glass onion is a fine metaphor for a person who tries to appear complicated and many-layered but is actually transparent if someone sees through the BS. Thanks for your reaction to the parade of surprises and your insights, which I enjoyed.

Miles was shocked on seeing "Helen" showing up, and when he touches her shoulders, it looks like he's checking if she isn't a ghost. Cool thing, when Miles says "Inbrethiate" both Blanc and Peg look confused. Also, on rewatch the things that Blanc says Miles did (like handing him the glass, stealing the gun and phone), did actually happen in first half. If you pay attention to Edward Norton throughout it, you can see the phone in back pocket, him putting the gun in the ice bucket, and then a brief glimpse of gun in hand in the shot where he's running in the dark, apparently afraid.

The "disruptor" speech parallel at the end is amazing. Good catch! Especially placing Helen in contrast to the rest of the shitheads. Their turning on Miles is performative at that point, they're not willing to break the big stuff. Once Helen does it and they do turn it's just them yet again backing the winning horse. They haven't changed. Once again this is a story of rich people closing ranks to protect their own.

I wanted to respond to a few things you mentioned in your commentary. 1. I wouldn't say that Miles really co-founded Alpha with Andi. He just saw her come up with the idea and wanted in. 2. Duke doesn't carry an EpiPen despite having a fatal food allergy. So, yeah, I'd say that he's dumb enough to really believe all the stuff he says on his channel. 3. I'd never heard anything about Elon Musk's brain chip before you mentioned it. After looking it up, I'm convinced that Neuralink is basically the same thing as Theranos: A huge scam. Which means it's only a matter of time before Elon goes to prison for fraud.

I saw another comment on a different reaction that the Among Us game Blanc was playing was actually more relevant to the plot than just a fun reference, as a series of events closely followed how a round of the game often goes: The power is cut, everyone splits up, a murder (as we're first led to believe) happens in the dark, the body is discovered, and then after the power comes back on cue the emergency meeting where everyone comes together to discuss/blame.

Great reaction. Watched this for the second time this morning. Absolutely great. Yes, Miles def has Elon Musk vibes. And timely this was coming out as Musk’s disastrous takeover of Twitter was/is going down. All the characters are so, so well written. Re: the name Cassandra. In the Trojan War, she was cursed with the ability to see the future but to never be believed, so she could see the tragedies about to unfold but was unable to prevent it. Seems kinda fitting for Andy.
@agenttheater5
@agenttheater5 Жыл бұрын
And even though I think it's unfair to blame Helen for the Trojan war - from what I've read of it it seems more like a case a lot of people wanting a war to happen and her running off with Paris giving them the perfect excuse to wage war - she's still being like Helen of Troy here because her arrival on the scene and her presence on the island is what got everything started.

That's the thing, Helen made the same mistake Cassandra did when she held the napkin out so prominently. They didn't consider poor, stupid Miles as a threat until it was too late. He can't plan elaborate things, but has the right instincts to react with simple, short term solutions, which is how his reputation as a business genius has survived as long as it has. As soon as Miles knows Cassandra is dead and Helen and Blanc must be there as a ruse, he instantly spikes Duke's drink because he was the only to see Miles leaving Cassandra's house. So in one move he has eliminated the only witness and set-up someone (in his mind Helen as trying to poison him in revenge for her sister). Whiskey comes in and seemingly confirms it from their interaction in her bedroom (or maybe like Blanc's "gun when the lights go out" quip, that gave him the idea to gove after Helen) and he immediately moves to kill Helen. If she's dead they can't prove or disprove that she was the one that put the "poison" in Mile's drink. His next move probably would have been to set-up vengeful Whiskey for the shooting of Helen with another fake suicide.
@RectPropagation

To be fair, that wasn't instinct. He was just doing whtat Lionel said he should do. He even points at Lionel right after he does it because that's who brought up burning the napkin.

It was a throw away line but Miles told Benoit that he had a guy who created the box and someone else created the murder mystery as well. A Knives Out Mystery (spoiler free) The 2019 original Knives Out and the 2022 sequel Glass Onion are rewatchable films. Unlike other movies in the “whodunit” (murder) genre, the reveals enhanced rewatch experience as subtle clues became obvious. The director (Rian Johnson) is a master of expectation subversion and misdirection, as he made a distinctly different sequel in the same universe. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is the only returning character anchoring both movies. The first movie was set in a stuffy British house with a patriarch and his dysfunctional family (old money-ish). The sequel was set on a private Greek island of a billionaire surrounded by his inner circle of “disrupters” (new money-ish). The first movie is better (in my opinion), but the second is a worthy sequel - more transparent (glass), more layered (onion), and more fun in the sun.

You’re _definitely_ not the only one thinking Miles Bron is Elon Musk. I keep forgetting Miles’ name and automatically call him Elon Musk in my head. After the whole Twitter debacle, there was no way I was believing that Miles was that smart and as _soon_ as he said “inbreathiate,” I knew he was stupid. The whole movie, I was yelling “It had to be him!” In the Among Us scene, nobody has been killed yet. That means that Blancman22 was acting _that_ suspicious and might have vented in plain sight for them all to be sure it was him. Notice at the end that the “disrupters”/shitheads only turn on Miles and back Helen up once Miles’ reputation is clearly ruined and he cannot offer them anything anymore. They have not changed. They’re just bandwagoning on someone else now.
